how do i "fight, play" a fish
basically you just need to learn to counter what the fish is doing without horsing the fish if you want to use lighter line. like everyone else said, just go out and do it, its the only way to learn. dont be afraid to lose a few fish in the process, everyone loses fish now and then. if youre worried about cost and losing lures, practice with something cheap like t-rigged plastics and when you feel confident in your abilities to fight a fish then start using more expensive lures...

Fighting Bass. Tip up, or down?
i agree that where your rod tip is (up,down, to the side) should be based on what the fish is doing and where the fish is located, and not just a standard practice of one or the other but if i had to choose between tip up or down i would choose up. having a bass jump is part of the battle every angler should learn or know how to deal with. i dont recall ever losing a lot of bass just because they jumped, maybe ive been lucky in that aspect. plus i do love to see them jump, i just keep the tension on them with my rod

Spinning or Baitcasting for Senko
i dont use baitcasters so i cant really answer the original question, i use spinning gear and even a spincaster at times. but several people here have mentioned line twist on spinning gear as a reason for not using it. the only time i get line twist is when i have fresh brand new line on or if my spool is getting low on line. after a couple times out and a few fish later i dont have any problems with line twist at all. im just curious as to why its such a problem for others, and with senkos of all things? i rarely use a swivel as well. to me one of the best things for line that is having problems is to hook a nice fish in open water and having it run and pull out line further than you typically cast because you have a good natural tension on it when reeling back in onto the spool...

Loudoun County Fishing?
Yeah, stuff like that has happened to me but at a place like Audubon or Anne I tend to just suck it up. It's the residents' that pay to maintain it and I'm not going to complain too much when I'm not technically supposed to be there. apparently there are public fishing spots on Anne and Audubon. https://www.reston.org/ParksRecreationEvents/Nature/NaturalResources/Watershed/FishinginReston/Default.aspx?qenc=HzT9ACzZbNs%3d&fqenc=RVTzXzd3p6LO1iV99AGFnA%3d%3d

Cheap Tackle
i got a cheap shakespeare combo with a spincast on a 6'6 MH rod that i absolutely love. not the reel so much but the rod. ive caught some nice fish on it too. had it 3-4 years now. picked it up at walmart one weekend when i was out of town and the opportunity to fish came up.

wife borrowed my truck
if you eat any kind of fish you have no right to complain. as long as the person is keeping legal fish then its their right. i dont eat any fish, but i dont mind others no matter the species. if im fishing with a buddy who wants to keep some fish i will let them keep what i catch if they want it, otherwise i throw everything back. you may not like the taste of bass, but other people do

Do not buy a scale!
i got a spring scale for christmas, ive only used it 3 times, and even if it is a little off, i have a basic idea of what the fish weighs. i like it because it will keep me from grossly overestimating the weight of a fish. weighed a 3lb catfish my brother in law caught back last month, what i thought/estimated was a ten pound catfish i caught last year i bumped down to 5-6 lbs after seeing the 3lber, atleast with the scale i can keep myself honest if nothing else

Kids fish anymore?
i was taking my neice and sister fishing saturday down to my uncles pond, driving through the field to park and turned around for easy exit. all of a sudden i hear POP PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. so i drove back up to the house without even stopping. i ran over some deer antlers apparently, had one piece sticking out of my tire. i felt bad we didnt get to go fishing, especially my 5 year old neice, she loves to fish. now i have to make it up to her, shes already told me as much that i owe her a fishing trip...

Mcnabb
as a redskins fan, its a tough pill for me to swallow. ive hated mcnabb for so long, now i have to cheer for him on gameday. i will probably be more critical of him than past redskins QBs of late, even though he is better than them. i suppose i will support him on the field though, unless he plays horribly. campbell has permission to seek a trade, and its unlikely he will return as he and shanny agreed its best if campbell didnt even workout with the team right now.

crappie location
they love cooler water so they go deeper in the summer when the temps heat up. as the temps start to cool off in the fall can also be a good time for crappie...

Big fish vs. Small fish
i would almost bet there are bigger bass lurking in that area looking for a bluegill to snack on. perhaps waiting for the smaller bass to chase some of the bluegill out to them. what i would do, if legal in your state, is try and catch one of the smaller bluegills there, throw him out on a hook and let him jerk around, a bass big enough to eat him will likely show up out of nowhere and slam the bluegill

BEST Bed Bait?
what i find interesting here is the "cleaning the nest" part. i read something not long ago, cant remember where, but as the guy told it, his friend said he could catch any bedding bass easily. and proceeded to show him how. now i dont know if this is true or just a story, and im not saying its fact. but the guy proceeds to pick up a wet leaf from along the shore and folds it up a bit and puts it on his hook. he tosses it out on the bed and the bass will proceed to pick it up and move it to keep the bed clean and BAM, fish on. it would be interesting to know if that actually worked, someone here should try it and report back

The "sprinkler head" drop shot retrieve works.
while its a nice fish, and not to take anything away from rhino. But why is it very impressive that a bass was caught from a canoe on spinning gear? its not like its a rare occurance or anything. you dont need an elaborate bass boat and a baitcaster to catch nice fish ya know?

Wanna Catch a Bass Already! ( Fishing a narrow river)
didnt you make a thread about not being able to catch fish last year, 90x? seems you have a tough time up there, dont lose your confidence and keep trying. like new angler said, its very possible the fish just arent in the spot youre fishing no matter what structure is there. perhaps you should try a different part of the river. look for water with a slacker current in the river...
