  1. I have had luck with small crankbaits, especially Rapalas. Tube baits work well too. Flukes can be productive, but Rapalas are by far my favorite. Good Luck! and Tight Lines!
  2. Aquatic Biologist for Allied Biological. The main office is in NJ and I run the branch office in NY. I spend the warm months on lakes and ponds and winter months at the computer writing permits and reports. I work out of my home and I enjoy my job. I even get paid to fish on occasion. Sometimes its with electricity, which means the fishing is going to be good! ;D ;D
  3. Caution!! The lakes around my area have ice and snow. I'm in central NY around Cooperstown. I would head to the Bass Pro Shops that is in Auburn ;D ;D
  4. I think just about anywhere on the Susquehanna is good. I live just below the headwaters near Cooperstown, NY (yep the beginning of such a great river) and it is loaded with smallies. It starts out slow and narrow and goes about 15 miles until it runs into Goodyear Lake and from there it picks up speed and begins to get much larger. The entire section in NY has great smallmouth fishing. When I lived in PA, I did not get to fish it that much (unfortunately), but most areas have great fishing. Harrisburg area is good, near Williamsport, at the confluence of Penns Creek. There are launches all along the river. Check with the PA Fish and Boat Commission, they will be able to help. Just be careful since some areas can be shallow.
  5. I have a 10' jon and I really like jons, but at that length I would go with the bass hunter mainly fo stability. Although the jon is 15' and still going strong. Not sure the plastic boats would last that long
  6. This is where I drew the line!
  7. My dog is pretty active at first. When I cast he tries to ran at the lure and eat it as if it were alive. After awhile he calms down and is pretty good.
  8. Not sure if the county will do anything, but it may be worth the effort to try. If you wish to find a company that will control the vegetation please let me know. My company no longer deals with small ponds in NJ, but I could refer you to some one reliable. Send me a PM if you are interested.
  9. I've electro-fished Assunpink and Mountain Lake. Got some big bass out of Assunpink and big Musky out of Mountain Lake.
  10. Oops. I just looked and saw you were from NJ. What part of NJ?
  11. Kozak has some good questions. Definitely could be an invasive species. Is the pond shallow? If so light is able to penetrate to the bottom allowing for plant growth throughout the entire pond (the entire pond would be considered littoral zone). Some of the scum could be algae and not plants at all. It is possible people have been harvesting more bass then the pond could produce. As for the vegetation, if the vegetation grows unchecked and is able to take over the pond then Yes, it will impact the fish populations greatly. Oxygen levels are affected in a way that will stress fish. pH levels tend to be affected and will cause added stress to fish. With more vegetation there are more areas for the baitfish to hide and less ambush points for the bass. You typically will get stunted bass populations at this point. Let us know more about the pond and more suggestions might be added. What state are you located? If you wish to have the plants identified, takes some pictures and post them, it may help.
  12. THANKS TO THEM ALL!!!
  13. Go with the 10' and you'll be glad you did.
  14. Fish Tanker! Because they would fit nicely in a fish tank. ;D
  15. Definitely look at the Eagles. I have the Fishmark 480, a bit more expensive, but a good fish finder.
  16. Well, I followed the instructions and had no problem posting pictures, but I can't seem to get the size down. I put them on photobucket and reduced the size, but when I post them they are still fairly big. Any thoughts on this problem?
  17. I have had a 71' Merc 20hp, 83' Evinrude 15, and 06' Johnson 9.9hp. I like the Evinrude the best. Parts are cheap and easy to find. That is if you need to find them. Runs strong and is reliable. The Merc. was a good motor. Ran very strong for a 20hp. The only gripe I had with the Merc, were the parts. Pretty expensive! The Johnson (made by Bombardier), well its a Johnson. Good motor, runs well and to this point is reliable. Can be finicky to start at times. It is a four stroke and quite. Good Luck!
  18. 8lbs. largemouth. Had a scale, but no camera. Not sure what is better to have?
  19. I guess it depends on the motor you have. I have an 83' Evinrude 15hp and it is pretty easy to work on with the manual. Even if you don't know a thing about motors its not that hard to learn. Get your self a manual so that you can understand your motor better. I'm not sure what is involved with servicing, but simply checking and/or change spark plugs once a year, check your wiring make sure it is not corroding, check and/or change oil, clean the motor at least once a year. These are a few simple maintenance items that can help the longevity of your motor. Then in the winter, if you live where it is cold you and can't use it, make sure you put fuel stabilizer in you tanks and run your motor for a while so that it can cycle through. In some cases people recommend running your motor empty for storage, yes this works, but on occasions, I found that you can't always get all of the gas out of the carb and they sometimes get gummed up. This is why I run a stabilizer in my tank and run the motor so that it cycles through. Best of Luck and hope your motor lasts a long time!
  20. Excellent! Thanks for the advice. i think I'll give it a shot.
  21. Hello all, I'm sure this has been asked before, I just could not find the right thread, so I apologize if I am being redundant. I was looking at a 1236 Lowe jon boat or equivalent for small ponds and rivers. Wanted to know if it is possible to put a front deck in this boat. I'm sure it will be a bit wobbly, but will it tend to tip over is the real question. I fished out of a 10' jon boat with a 31" bottom that was tippy and if not careful would flip over. Main concern is about the tipping over part not the wobbly part. Thanks for the expert advice! ;D ;D
  22. Thanks WV_BASSFISHER, my email is sjwilson22@gmail.com
  23. Hey all, My motor quit running the other day and after diagnosing I found that it was not getting any spark from either plug. Bought a new stator and replaced that, but still no spark. Other options were the sensor or may be the power pack. All the wiring looks fine. Disconnected the kill switch and still nothing. Anyone out there got any thoughts??
  24. Hey, my GMC (which isn't on the list and it's not a chevy) has 289,000 miles. Maybe it's time for a new truck, but man I just love that truck. ;D ;D
