  1. thanks alot guys with the great info.. sounds like spray on is going to be the way i go.. we have a place not far from my home called truck n thunder, i'm gonna need to call them and get pricing. bwell your mother doesnt have a website or anything that people can order from does she???? i will be keep track of the progress on here with picture updates for you guys.. my last boat took about 3 months to complete. i'm sure this one will take a little while longer but i should have it going this summer.
  2. yeah i have the title for it. it was great how it all went down, i couldn't have asked for anything better. gives me something to do in my free time. spray on liner does sound like a good idea, i really like grizzly boat because of their bearhide bottoms. what's wrong with liners in the summer??? and filling it up is my first priority for sure. i did that with my lil jon boat when i first got it, but that thing was much simpler and smaller. i can still run a bilge pump and all the aeration i need if i mount my switches in an accessible place. i cant wait to get started on this thing
  3. ok so a guy stopped by today and was inquiring about sandblasting prices. he wanted to get his boat trailer sandblasted, which is fine we quoted him a price and i proceeded to ask him about the boat that was on the trailer. its a 16' lowe boat thats been gutted. he was taking it to the scrap yard. he plans on getting a smaller boat. so i told him to just leave the boat with me and we'll blast his trailer for a lesser amount than quoted (quoted price $250). scrap yard was going to give him $100 so i told him we'll knock that off the cost. the thing is gutted, he said there or no leaks other than a little seepage in the back end, its going to take some doing to get it going again, but i think it will be worth it,all the original metal framing is still in the boat, it had a steering column, but i don't think i'm going to put one back in they're just too costly, but my questions to you guys are pretty simple, does it sound like it's worth fixing??? and does anyone have any good ideas on how to approach it.
  4. jus picked up the humminbird570 yesterday. its my first depth finder and its going on my jon boat so i didnt want to go too crazy on spending. but anyways i'm lookin to get the best bottom detail i can out of it so how should i set it up???? ive read the manual a few times just to absorb the know how on operating it. im thinkin i should turn my fish i.d off turn my sensitivity all the way up and keep it on the narrow beam. also im thinkin if i set my depth to only go to about 50 ft that should help too. any input would be appreciated
  5. throw a swim bait on it, live magic shad, or money minnow you'll love the results
  6. carbonlite pro qualifier crankin stick bps or kvd abu garcia veritas/vendetta gander mountain titanium st croix mojo bps extreme all star rods
  7. your height doesnt matter but rod length does. you're not getting the same casting distance or sensitivity out of a 6ft rod as you will a 7ft rod. go with at least a 6'6 or 7ft everytime you go out.
  8. YEAH I READ AN ARTICLE IN OUTDOOR LIFE THAT TALKED ABOUT THEM BEING BANNED. I CHECKED OUT THEIR SITE, SOME OF THEIR STUFF LOOKS PRETTY COOL. I CAN SEE WHERE THEIR WORMS AND EVEN THE KICKTAIL COULD BE BANNED. STILL PRETTY COOL LOOKING LURES. I STILL MAY GRAB ONE OR TWO AND CHECK THEM OUT.
  9. was wondering if anyone has tried anything from these guys... the baby birds and kicktails look pretty promising, but not sure i'm a spro guy so was wondering is it even worth trying/??
  10. yeah it is a knock off. i was just curious how many people still use this old time rig. gotta fish them extra slow, the wobble makes them look like a snake coming through the water
  11. has anyone been fishing a wobble worm lately???? a buddy of mine got a few of the originals from a guy he's doing some work for... i'd imagine that they are still productive, was thinking about ordering some for hh. i tried to find some at bps but couldn't locate anything other than a timber doodle, but they're not quite the same
  12. the size isnt listed on the pakage i have a 5/8 oz that i use everytime i go out. they burn up bass and pickerel. burn it fast, jig it whatever it doesn't matter fish love them
  13. get yourself an $80 all star rod 7' mh you will not be dissappointed
  14. Has ne1 tried this reel? I just picked one up today for $107 Android was wondering what people thought of it. I couldnt pass it up for that price. Still need to get a rod im thinkin about the vendetta or maybethe gsx titanium or a mojo bass ne suggestions
  15. what size jig head, line? medium heavy or heavy action rod i'd imagine. i've got an 8 foot medheavy spinning rod that i've used a number of times for croaker would that be a good choice for drum??? i like gulp for my bass, and didnt even think about their saltwater plastics good stuff.
  16. ok se we are getting a beach house known as the green herron off of mile marker #19 for a week in mid september(19th i think) so my question is, how good is the surf fishing in this area, and what species can be caught? i'll be bringing a bunch of gear, but my problem is baits. i know the basic baits, such as blood worms and squid, from my croaker fishing days, but im looking to catch some flounder if at all possible maybe some drum or something. i'll be fishing from the beach, mostly nights i think, i was told nights were a good time. i realize my timing may be bad, or good with the dates we're coming down. any and all info would be appreciated
  17. good info thanks guys... i've got a med hvy rod with braid already set up so ill give it a go.
  18. alright i've had my minnows for quite a while now, and i havent had much action on them at all. for the most part i've thrown it on my 6'6 med hvy all star rod pinnacle reel with 14lb xps flouro. is this a good line and rod choice???? i use a 5/0 weighted gomakatsu hook as well. also how should i fish these minnows. usually i like to use them on points with rocks, or around sunken timber, i let them sink and try to work them kinda like a worm, or swim them little bit, but like i said i just havent had much luck, actually no luck. i haven't really committed myself to throwing them all that much, i find myself going to a wacky worm or rattle trap instead. i'm open to any suggestions.

  20. great info thanks for the feedback. i'm going to go to gander mountain tomorrow and check out the 570. thanks again
  21. i've got a 14' jon boat and i want something that is easy to read, and dependable. i don't know anything about depth finders. this will be my first time buying one so, i'd like to know what to look for. i don't really need anything too fancy, but good enough to show you that log 20 feet below, ill probably be looking to spend around 3 or $400 on one. any suggestions?????
  22. just get on craigslist.com in your area and you'll find something nice, we got our 14ft jon boat with a trailer for 300. my brother got a twelve ft jon boat with seats and motor for 300. i thought the biggest gas motor you could run at briery was 9.5hp. if that's the case than you dont need a 20-30hp motor. we've got a 6 hp johnson that works well enough for our boat.
  23. i'm going to hunting run this weekend and i was wondering if you could point me into the direction where you find some of your schools. you don't have to tell me your favorite areas but i would like to know where some of the more active areas are. i have found a few spots that i really like and seem to produce a number of fish on each journey, but here recently they've been a little dorment. i've read on fishingva.com all of your reports and it sounds like you know the lake very well. also your last report, you mentioned traps as a productive lure, now is that a fast erratic presentation or slow and steady with a pause every now and again, or a yo yo pattern. same question about xraps. all info will be appreciated. ;D
  24. from what i understand this body of water has a lot of standing timber in it..... so sounds like a jig lake.... anyone know what's working there, and where to work????
  25. no i dont think so but i was casting a good distance away from the points and structure, that way i could work shallow and bring it deep on the retrieve. i'm goona keep that cove in mind next time i go, thanks for the help guys.
