Dumbest thing I did had to be last year. I had broken my trolling motor headpiece a small gear inside that steers it left or right. So my partner had sold his boat a week earlier. SO we jerryrig this thing as best we can with black tape and even go as far as welding the gear solid in the place where its stripped so it cant turn no farther 'yea right'. We had won the tournament a week prior to that one and had some confidence goin into it so we figured that we would take our time not burn the motor up much and hole in and fish. Well the fish had moved and our busted trolling motor was getting put to the test. ON top of that my partner whos name I wont say had a nasty case of the Hershey squirts/ which left him having to hit the bank several times and then it got so bad he couldnt even make it to the bank he was aiming from the side of the boat. Needless to say I laughed until I cried all day.Here we had payed money to enter a tournament and had a busted trolling motor and a man in serious need of imodium. We went on to loose that tournament horribly. So with that being said if your stuffs not working right"mechanically with your boat or physically with you" dont be STUPID keep your money dont contribute.

My wife and I had fished a small lake here in wv called Woodrum in the late 90s a few times and had terrific success with fish ranging from 2-5 lbs and lots of em. So a couple weeks later I returned with her and my Father and Mother. We were absoulutely tearing the fish up on 300series bandit crankbaits. The lake is full of standing timber and it seemed every time you could make ruff contact with it you caught a fish. So were rounding into the mouth of the lakes only fork and I cast across to the other side of the point, I make a few cranks to get it down beside of this huge brush pile , I see the flash of a huge fish. So like I have been doin all day I horse this thing to the side of my boat, well thats where I messed up, just as Im gettin ready to bend over and pick this thing up it surfaces,shakes and spits my crankbait and hooks my shirt. Now this is what really makes me mad. This fish lays there in front of me for a good 5 secs on its side Im just standing in aw. At this point in my life Ive landed a bunch of fish from 5-8 pounds and this sucker has to be 10maybe 11. Then straightens up noses down and swims away. I think thats the only time I had ever used foul language in front of my mom or dad. The trip ended there lol I ruined everyones day we packed up and drove back home.

Hey great topic there, I personally love sml and as a prior person had posted there are lots of variables, the only problem I have in sharing any information with ya is I havent been there since 03 its kinda a sacred place to me it was the last place that me and my father fished before his passing that year. Another factor being was the 5 years that we had fished there alot everything was on a constant change , that place is a realestate nightmare. Every island,cove and piece of riprap there had somethin built on it , or was being developed and that was then. But there was an abundance of smallmouth bass, and largemouth in the lake I personally had my best fishing done between April and July, and favorite places woulda been the Cradock creek area, around the Keys area both sides of the dam out of the cove. The S curve area around the park always produced and Blackwater seemed good for Largemouth, honestly the place is loaded with habitat with all the docks and long manmade riprap points and all. Baits of choice woulda been anything resembling baitfish,fluke, spinnerbait, crankbait , jerkbait. And it was always fun to get in that occasional school of strypers that would be cruisin.

This is another thing that I don't understand. Why do people think that any of our lures look ANYTHING like a real minnow? A jerkbait is a solid body. There aren't any fish that swim that have a solid body (no flex). They have huge treble hooks hanging off of the bottom of them. I personally haven't seen a minnow grow a treble hook. Bass are very opportunistic feeders. They will eat anything that moves. Except for a select few lures, a lure is used to trigger a feeding reaction from the bass. It isn't used to mimic live bait. Put a photofinish on a crankbait and present it to a bass and that crank will look nothing like the prey species in the photofinish. The swimming action is completely different. A bass looks at it and says "Food" and eats it. Hopefully it does that is. Back to top Look here brotherman I guarantee you I can take a fluke and imitate a real shad, or for that matter take a pointer and have a whole school of bait following it, IT LOOKS LIKE A BAITFISH and as dick wrote, you are throwing livebait and holding on, Why else would we buy our kids minners and worms at the local bait shop going to the lake so they will have an improved chance at catching something. So with that being said Ima say there should be a split between records with livebait and with artificial. Cause lets face it livebait is so easy a Caveman can do it!!!!!!!!!

guys i appreciate all the info i guess i shoulda mentioned to that i was just wanting a fan caster something for quick accurate throws , I kow some of the rods some of you guys mentioned are way to long-large for that application but nonetheless i appreciate all the comments

My accomplishment is one thats really personal, I realized this year that I can be beat in tournaments on my home lake, and sometimes even by guys in tin boats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'(
