  1. Do yourselves a favor and get the new opera 10.... soo much faster and less aggravations than IE will give you.
  2. I always set my brake according to wind / lure weight. Keep the other knob by the handle fairly loose. Train your thumb accordingly and you will be able to cast a mile. Its all in the thumn. If you practice enough you can use no brakes and have the other knob really loose and use your thumb as the brakes which is what a lot of the pro's do themselves. Just practice practice practice. To start have your break on all the way with the other knob fairly loose. Back off on the break a little more and little more as you get accustomed to having your thumb do its job. Before you know it your lure will go further and further and thumb will gain memory of how much pressure to use on the spool and when. Hope this helps. Mind you I just started using baitcasters this yr and I may get only a few backlashes minorly when I am fishing from time to time but not as bad as I useto. Also I found that whenever I get frustrated and want to fling my lure out as far as it can go, never a good idea instant backlash. However if I use a flick of the wrist and concentrate on my cast I get perfect results.
  3. UNHbass37. Nice fish. Hey question for ya, what kind of raft is that you have?
  4. are you talking about harris pond? there is another pond that i know of in pelham but im not sure if it is privet or not. will tell you guys if i ever get out there. Im talking about gumpas pond. It is in fact private however supposivly If you head out the dirt road that surrounds it there is a trail off to the left that a truck can fit down to gain access. Gumas is supposed to be really good and filled with monster bass. A guy at work's son goes there all the time and has come home with tons of pics of huuuge bass. Me and the gf went down the dirt rd a ways and it looked like the road went right beside someones house with a garage accross from the house. thought maybe it was the end of the rd but nope i guess you just keep going.
  5. my reel has holes in the spool so I just tied a regular knot around one of them so it doesn't slip at all. Never had a problem.
  6. Ya I was ttrying the slug-o which are a vry irratic action swimbait. Im using 50# powerpro on a 6'6" medium power rod baitcast setup with them and seem to like it a lot however just couldn't get anything to bite. With this setup I can cast my senko's and swimbaits pretty much just as far as a spinning setup. Looking to try out a new spot in pelham today or tommarow so I will give my synopsis when I do.
  7. went to mill pond today. No luck, however a guy 20 ft down the banking caught a 4lb 10 oz largemouth which was a beauty. Tried senkos and slugo's with no luck. he was using a black and red senko.
  8. Wait a minute now. Nashua Fisherman and myself told you about some good spots now you are not given any info to the rest of us? : Pictures make the fish look bigger sometimes, But I say thats atleast 3 pounds. Nice catch. This guy I caught the other day I thought was over 3lbs for sure, But only weighted 2lbs 13oz :-/ Already stated it was at my work. in the industrial park in hudson.
  9. Heres your proof. No this wasnt at mill pond either... if you are unsure where I am talking about Ill keep it that way ;D should have another good one when my computer illiterate gf gets them uploaded haha. can someone please give me a guess on how much this thing weighs. Im really not sure and she was freaking out when i told her to get the rope from the truck to get diameter and length measurements to use the calculater---- HUUUUn let it go your going to kill it, get it in the water hahaha EDIT: The length to from my fingertips to my elbow is a hair over 18"
  10. Cool Ill have to check that out. Thinking in a few weeks to buy a canoe off a guy at work. 14' and really wide. I guess he can stand up in it and fish so seems like a good deal at 100$ with paddles and all. He paid 600$ 3 years ago and barely used it. Then I can get to all the decent spots around. I would jump on that in a heart beat! Anyone know of any jon boats around NH for sale? Ya im going to try to get it with my next check. I guess a lot of guys put trolling motors on this model and its really a nice rig.
  11. Went afterwork today and caught 7 in total. Mostly little guys. Went and started doing some flipping or trying to anyhow haha, but casting into and around some weedbeds that had a stream channel coming into... so to the right of me a water channel heavily wooded and the water ran out into weed beds. I was using a 4" black slug-0 on my heavy baitcasting setup... splashes were heard up the channel which is only 3-4ft wide max, figured it was a beaver. Some light bulb came off in my head to cast through the twigs and trees so i threw the slug-0 in their let it fall its way to the bottom. twitched my rod tip around and wammm, up my line went twords deeper in the channel. reeling and pulling the fish turned out twords the pond and after a minute or two landed a nice probably 4lber... def my most exciting fish to catch yet. I know I know everyone wants the picture... soon to be, waiting for the gf to upload to the computer tonight and send them to me. But stay tuned and I will post.
  12. Kind of odd. I know flouro is nice I switched to braid 50# powerpro on my worm rod and absolutly love how it casts and how less likely I am seeming to be with backlashes and mishaps. Id say just run the knot out of the line or run the whole line out and then re-spool it back on.

  14. Where you saw us is where I caught that guy. We havn't explored / fished too much further down from where you saw us. We have fished from the left side of the boat launch all the way down, which is accross from where you guys saw us. And then sometimes we walk a little further up from where you saw us just over then bridge walkway where a little waterfall is and that seemed to be a decent spot. However we had the bikes with us and went for a good 2hr bike ride before fishing And i really liked a few spots at the end of the pond where the channel comes in. Im guessing this is where you are talking that the canal is? I saw the 2 guys in canoe and 1 in kayak and asked them if any luck and they were stating they had good luck at the mouth of the channel they were in. I wouldnt think the channel they were coming down would be all that good fishign considering the depth and amount of junk in their.
  15. Nashua fisherman. Nice seeing you out there today. Probably about 30 min after I saw ya I caught this guy here. no clue how much the weight is. Thought it was funny that he was missing half a tail too. I only got this one from mill. GF was catching a few little sunnies however. I still can't get her onto using some lures or worms other than real. I caught this guy using a white senko with silver flake.
  16. the noose knot has always failed for me. until I was showed the palmer by a friend I couldnt be happier. I use it for all of my knots now and have great luck with it. Its vry simple and never snaps or comes un-done
  17. Ya Im thinking either the st croix mojo or that damiki angel ex. Ill let you guys know if I get the angel and give a breif review on my impressions. Hoping somewhere around here carries them.
  18. What kind of warrentys do these have. I know some brands offer lifetime warrenty's. I know over at a local bait shop they have some gloomis rods and higher end ones around the 150$ range. Just wondering going up to 140$ or so will gain much. Also what size and action would you recomend. I was thinking a 6' or 6'6" MH.
  19. I Have the pinnacle platinum pro 40$ and pinnacle solene 50$ from wallmart. Both I found to be decent baitcasters for beginners. Havn't had a problem yet and find them really smooth and nice to cast. You could easily pair one of these with a cheapy rod to start off for about 80$ or so. Then upgrade the rod to a nicer one and then get a nicer real later on which I plan on doing.
  20. Hey guys. Looking for a new rod. Really don't want to spend more than 100$ on it. Most likely going to be going to a local shop. I currently bought a cheap ML 5'6" rod that I like but I want a more decent quality rod to use for general purpose. Mostly spinnerbaits, topwater, jigs and so forth. I use the ML for a lot of senko's and worms where there isnt much cover and will go to this rod for throwing senkos through pads and such... what would you recomment. Its for a baitcaster.
  21. I dont understand why everyone is so upbeat on expensive reels to throw light lures. I switched to baitcasters this yr. I dont have the money to be caughing up over 100$ for a reel let alone 200$. Eventually yes I will siwtch to a nice daiwa or shimano but right now I am currently using 2 model baitcasters from wallmart. Pinnacle platinum plus with 8lb mono and a pinnacle solene with 50# powerpro braid with a 12lb mono 3ft leader. I was just throwing vry light poppers last night fine on the braided setup and vry far casts. Another thing i learned yesterday is if you hang the lure about 8" or so off the end of the rod rotate it in a clockwise motion and snap your wrist and let the bail go (well keep your thumb ligthly on it) I can cast even further and with really light lures..... Its all in practice. Unless these reels are just that good.
  22. UNHbass37 - thats great that your kids like to fish. And d**n I am getting more and more depressed by the day not catching anything big. I guess thats why a boat is helpful
  23. What a catch for a first timer. To all: I have been trying to figure out what the heck the fish are doing. In talking with a guy at my work whom was a big bass tournament guy for years was saying to be fishing slow and deep, senkos and such. Or Topwater for the next month or so would be prime. He was stating that the males are on the beds hanging out on the hatch while the females have migrated to lower waters. What do you guys think? Im thinking to start working my poppers and jitterbugs more. The past week in talking to people at boat launches and so forth people are nailing them on poppers.
  24. I have just started using baitcasters this year. From what I know and feel I think that I have better control over the presentation however sometimes in hairy situations I like the spinning gear with a shorter rod 5'6" - 6' medium action to get into tight spots where its tougher to cast with a bc (ex. when you are fishing from shore with a lot of obstacles and trees around ).
  25. welcome to the forum. I am recently new here as well as live in southern NH. Have had a lot of good research and advice through these forums and everyone is super friendly.
