  1. I agree 100% go back to what your strong suit is. Stick with what you KNOW works. For me, I go to shallow water structure...docks, blowdowns, weedbeds. I throw senkos, jersey rigs, and spinnerbaits. Fish areas that have traditionally worked for me.
  2. From my experience...the rods are tough to beat for the money (or any price). I had very bad luck with one reel. Won't buy another.
  3. We are located in the Wilkes Barre. We do have a member from down your way.
  4. At a deeper look, temperature can effect PH, through photosythesis. Algae would convert carbon dioxide in the water to oxygen. Carbon dioxide mixed with water makes carbonic acid. So in theory the less CO2 the less carbonic acid, the higher the PH. So IMO there is no direct effect but it could be effected in a round about way...photosythesis, decay, etc.
  5. Pine Run Bass Club is a unique club in Northeast Pa. Founded by veteran tournament anglers that had enough of the cut throat win by any means atmosphere, PRB offers high competitiveness with a friendly relaxed feel. Tounaments are buddy tournaments, with a different partner each time. All done by draw and a points system crowns a "Mr Bass" at the end of the year. Tournament fees are used to pay for a nice year end dinner, and pay for rooms at the clubs away tournament...reducing costs so everyone can fish. The club is based on improving everyones bass fishing abilities and knowledge. We all share baits, patterns, and techniques; for the clubs benefit. Many members take vacations together, which show the friendship of it's members. Anyone interested reply to this post or send me a PM.
  6. Not true, lower Ph means more acidic. Salt does not change the PH of water. Salt is addeed to fish water to hep relieve stress by inducing a "flow" of water and O2 inot their gills...prolonged use of salt has no benefit...unless the species you are talking about "prefers" it a little salty. Take it from a fish farmer.
  7. For me its a 3 part answer. First off let me say I get custom made jig head for my tubes. I never texas rig a tube. And my jig heads really make a difference to me. 1) I never use (large, 6"+) worms for smallmouth, only tubes. 2) I use tubes early and late in the year for LM. Early spring and late fall. The jig heads I get made allow for a very slow fall for the colder water. 3) In weedy, heavy cover, or docks I never fish a tube. Since I don't texas rig a tube...it gets hung up too much in these situations. This is me...not everyone. I find I get more bites on tubes if they are rigged on a jig head than texas style. And like said, the heads I get made allow for a better hookup rate and a slower fall than a store bought one. You need to find out what you are confident in...and that's the right answer.
  8. i never heard of anyone ever bass fishing there.
  9. Bleeding shiner (shad) and a SK Red Eye Shad in the Sexy Shad
  10. Thanks guys for the help. I'm gonna get at this pretty soon. We were actually looking at spring of 2011, just so guys can sve up the money. We were originally thinking Mexico...but money is tight. Many people have recomennded going this way. As far as taking our own boats without guides we would be towing about 1900 miles one way. We thought it would be just easier to pay someone to take us around. 4 guys in one truck is better than 4 guys in 2 truck towing 20ft Rangers. LOL Fistful...thanks again if I have anymore questions I'll PM you at a later time. Mark
  11. Thanks Jack, Any guides you recommend? Is Zapata a decent town to stay in?
  12. We are interested in planning a trip to Falcon Lake or Armistad (sp?). Any comments about which is better, guides, time of year, towns, etc would be geatly appreciated. We would be drivng down and stay in a hotel/motel. There would most likely be 4 guys...so we would like a guide operation with 2 guides/boats, but would go with 2 seperate operations if needed.
  13. Plastics, I think work well all the time. But, being able to fish them may be tougher. Try throwing a senko in a high wind or a tube. Yes, you can weight them down, but now you are taking a chance that the bait will fall faster etc. and effect the productiveness. In high wind situations I hardly ever throw plastics (except a carolina rig), I'll opt for a crankbait.
  14. We had a tourney scheduled at The Pak Sat. Cancelled it it's supposed to be below freezing in the AM...makes it tough to pull out of a icy wet ramp.
  15. Gulf gas is ethanol free...atleast around here. Get some some additive to keep handy in your boat and or tow vehicle.
  16. Strike King KVD model. BPS Lazereye Premier.
  17. I have used BPS Excel mono line for many years. I used to use it for many years for every app. Recently I use it for cranks and spinnerbaits. It's really darn good stuff. I really like the Lazer Eye Premier spinnerbaits (I thinks it called premier it has red hooks and a long tailed skirt, and more than the reg lazer eye). Many of their plastics are good...I use their tubes. Don't care for the Stick-Os though.
  18. As being an old fish farmer...but not of bass. It reminds me of a virus that trout get. It trout they were more red...hence the nick name Strawberry disease. This looks very similar except for the reddness.
  19. Can't wait to get there again. One of my fav lakes. I go in the spring but most of my buddies go in the spring AND FALL. Lucky SOBS. We as a group are really getting on to catching them there...it's not an easy lake. Keep posting your Anna excursions!
  20. I put the line a the floor..label up, right below the rod tip. Sitting in a chair i just reel it up. DON'T OVER FILL YOUR REEL! On a note a few of argue about this situation every year. Some guys swear you put it on the same way you do a bait caster. Ya know, put a pencil through the hole and take it off the top of the reel. The thinking is you get no coil in the line. I do not beleive it myself. But, both fellas are very knowledgable fishermen. Anyone else ever heard this?
  21. The NY non resident went thru the roof too.
  22. As a a former fish farmer I can say this is an easy thing to do with fish. Sexually reversing fish is a common practice in fish farming. Trout and Tilapia are the two most common. I sex reversed trout when I was in the biz. The goal was to produce an all female population. And all male in tilapia...these are the prefered sexes to grow in those species. Basically, you collected sperm, hit it with UV light...killing the male DNA. Fertilized the eggs with it giving you an all female popoulation. Another step on down the line is to take a percent of these all females and sex reverse them. You feed them food with Methyl-testosterone on it. These female then developed testes (but no sperm ducts)...and you actually have female sperm (that is sperm with no male DNA). Then you fertilize the eggs with this sperm creating an all female population with this step you know eliminated the UV step for a genertion. My point is...I wonder if they do this with bass too. Then the bass get stocked. The article says they find males with egg in them...but it makes me wonder. Oh and by the way the trout and tilapia are safe to consume...other wise the FDA wouldn't let them do it.
  23. Generally, bass hit lizards out of protection of their nest. Or as instinct to protect the nest and fry. Without holding me to a for sure...the number one predator of bass eggs are lizards. I mean bass will take an easy meal anytime...but the aggressiveness towards lizards is definatley related to the (pre)spawn.
