  1. What I find more interesting is that somebody actually bought it
  2. I got my depth finders without GPS... and I regret it. I now carry a hand held GPS with me while fishing. Believe me, you will definately use the GPS, especially if you fish any at night. If price is not a factor I would go with color and GPS.
  3. It's hard for me to make a trip to lake anytime of the year without casting a jig at least once.
  4. One method I use for drifting behind a dam, for smallies mostly, is a Mr. Twister sassy shad rigged on a 1/8 oz. jighead. I usually wait to feel the bottom and lift the lure and kind of bounce it off the rocks. Only downside to this is you will loose a LOT of lures to the rocks.
  5. I just got back into fishing really. Me and my dad are trying to learn Guntersville since we have never fished there much. We usually go to Wilson or Pickwick for smallies, or Elk river. Elk river has been disappointing this year though, so Guntersville is where we have been going every chance we get.
  6. I have always used BPS reels until recently I decided it was time to upgrade my equipment. I have a BPS spinning reel that my dad bought over 15 years ago... and use it every time I go fishing. I have not bought any BPS brand reels recently, but most of them I use have not let me down.
  7. That is a pretty sweet upgrade in just one month. Did it cost you anything aside from a normal warranty claim?
  8. It is definately one of my favorite lures. Where were you fishing, if you don't mind me asking? I noticed you are from Athens AL so not far from me
  9. I am also interested in this reel. My local Gander Mt. apparently does not believe in adding new reels so I have not been able to check one out yet.
  10. Most reel companies have a left handed model now. I just purchased a revo premier lefty. I found a left handed silver max for $15 at a local store and now all my furture baitcasters will be left hand models.
  11. First of all look like you enjoy doing your job. A smile can go a long ways. You have probably noticed that if you ask "Can I help you find anything?" you will get a lot of "Just looking". Instead you might try starting a conversation about the particular items the customer is looking at. I personally am sort of shy. I won't seek out people to talk to of I don't know them, but if a friendly stranger comes up I will gladly talk. Most of the time I can get things cheaper on internet stores, but I like to go to local stores just because of the people... most of the time.
  12. The cork is very nice looking. The pictures on their website do not look like that. Good looking setup you've got there.
  13. At $11 dollars a pop I have not used them extensively, but I used one of a buddies on a fishing trip. I have had these produce when nothing else would. I don't know that it was all because of the crankbait, but bass did not care for any other crank in my arnsenal. The one day I used it I never had a foul. They have a different rattle sound. If you shake one it has a dull kind of thud inside. The one I used had the computer chip lip, which looks cool but I don't know that it really makes a difference. Thats what I can tell you from when I used one, hope it helps.
  14. That is a good deal on tungsten. I have not used any tungsten yet because of the price. I just can't make myself pay $3 a piece for weights when I can walk two feet down the row and get lead at a quarter of that price. One of these days the bait monkey will get to me though...
  15. I use one rod for weightless plastics, a different one for c-rigs, and a different one for pretty much everything soft plastic /jigs.
  16. I don't have any experience with the Platinum or ASR, but I have an American Classic and I love it. My uncle uses the ASR exclusively, so he must like them.
  17. I have a Duckett series spinning rod. Its a great rod and I use it every time I go fishing. I doubt I'll ever buy another one, but I don't regret buying the one I have. I kicked it in the water a few weeks ago and I believe that is the fastest I have ever gone from sitting to leaning over the side of the boat in my life. I caught it before it went too deep though.
  18. You don't have to go through all that trouble. Just make sure the line going on the spool of your reel is the same way it comes off of the spool on line (ie. your reel spins clockwise, so set the line on a table to it is coming off counter-clockwise). Most lines I have used you can just lay the line spool label side up and reel it up. Pretty simply, but can be a pain if you get it wrong. If it is braid just reel it on in, it won't make a difference either way.
  19. Not too awful long ago I only had one baitcasting outfit that I used for spinnerbait/crankbait/buzzbait and everything else was with a spinning rig. I now have only 3 spinning rigs and everything else is baitcasting. I use spinning for ultra-lite tackle, mainly crappie fishing and weightless soft plastics. I still LOVE my spinning tackle. BUT spinning reels have specific applications just like casting does. I think casting reels are more fun than spinning which is probably the biggest reason I have switched to prodominately casting. I will never go fishing without my spinning gear, but I have drastically increased my baitcasted gear.
  20. I would send it to St. Croix personally. You may spend more on shipping than the repair would cost, but I would be worried about my warranty being voided if repairing it elsewhere. After the warranty is up I would just get it fixed locally, but like roadwarrior said, St. Croix would probably just send you a new rod. I don't have any experience with dealing with St. Croix, so I may just be paranoid. Just something to think about.
  21. I just picked up a package of Rage Toads the other day. I havnt been able to try them out yet, but after after reading all about them and watching the video on this website I think I may like the rage toad. I am taking a ride out to Guntersville this weekend so I can see first hand how Alabama large lips like coffee 8-)
  22. No-swivel snap for me with the split ring removed.
  23. The combo I use for buzzbaits is the same as for my spinnerbait. I use a 7' All Star American Classic Medium/Moderate paired with a curado d. I like the Moderate action for spinnerbait and buzzbait aplication more-so than Fast.
  24. I am very interested in this split gripping of full cork rods. Would anybody that has done so mind posting a picture?
  25. I have seen several lures lately with a coffee scent. I have fished with garlic, salted, wierd fish smells, and even some bait that smell like liqourice but coffee is a first. Have there been any tests to prove coffee as a productive scent, or is it simply another smell used to cover human scent? It is kind of a nice change to smell a latte when rigging up instead of warding off vampires
