  1. Wayne I trust your opinion esp since you have probably fished anna alot more then I have. I'm still learning. Those pics were taken at the east end of dy ke one right where it's 8 feet deep or so. I tried the very end where it's real shallow and had no luck, but I didn't fish it a whole lot. Next time I will just anchor down closer to the end and work that entire area. I been using senkos and flick shakes on a 1/8 ounce zappu wacky head. I think I'll take your advice and try it weightless also. And are you suggesting finesse worms like the zoom finesse worms ? You're not talking about senkos I guess ? And what about the west end of dy ke one? I still haven't gotten down that far yet. There's so much area to cover that its easy to get locked into one part and never leave esp when you're catching fish. Dan, I have tried other stuff besides senkos and small jigs. I have tried 1/4 ounce white spinnerbait, shallow crankbaits, creature bait, Carolina rig with a 7 inch worm, cicada blade bait, shakey heads, poppers, and maybe a few other things that I cant recall at the moment. If I were a good crankbait angler then maybe I could put some in the boat but I haven't had any luck. I know ppl have caught big ones in there with carolina rigs but not me. I have only caught fish there on the wacky jig head/senko combo and on a shakey head and that's it. Anyone with experience fishing that part of the lake, I appreciate any input you have to offer up.
  2. Heres one I caught last week in the same spot, a lil under 3 pounds. This one I caught on a zappu wacky head with a 4 inch senko. Its about the average size fish on dy ke one but I know theres 5 pounders in those rocks. I just gotta figure out the right presentation to nail those big boys.
  3. I had some ricos in my bag and had thoughts of using them but passed them up. I should try them in a week when I go back. I noticed alot of guys in other boats were throwing shakey heads but of course I left my heavier shakey heads behind and only had super light ones out on the boat with me, I wasnt thinkin bout the wind. I caught one on a green pumpkin damiki air pocket worm that just arrived at warbirds. Picked up a pack to see how I liked them. First cast with it I caught this 1.4 pounder. No prize fish but considering it was a new product I was tryin out and my first cast with it, not bad.
  4. anyone go ? How was it ?
  5. Warm side is where I go since I have a cabin there. And well, the bite wasnt quite on. Some club rented a house there and had their own private tourney. There was about 15-20 boats and all were in an area the size of a football field maybe. It wasnt fun for me but I did manage one decent size fish. RockvilleMdAngler brought his skeeter out and tried his luck too. He had more hits then me but only managed one fish also. My partner caught two fish. I saw no bedding bass so Im not sure where they were but we couldnt find them. We were in that area to the right of Dy ke one where the water was 64 degrees back up in that cove where theres alot of good boat docks/boathouses to fish. My usual spot on dy ke one didnt produce either. I had to use my anchor cuz the wind+rip rap= wrecked boat if you arent fast with the trolling motor, I didnt wanna spend my day turning the boat around every 30 seconds. My fish came on a super light shakey head which was impossible to fish in the high winds esp with the 6 pound test I use. I did have one fish all the way up to the boat where it somehow broke off my texas rigged rage tail anaconda. It was somewhere between 3-4 pounds, I almost pulled an Ike and went nuts but I controlled my anger :-X The highlight of the trip had to be when my newly built daiwa pixilla/mbr842glx combo fell in the lake I grabbed it within 5 seconds of fallin in, it was fine. We were gonna fish today again but one of my dogs got very ill last night so we packed it up and came home today. I'll be back out there this coming week and next week. If anyone wants to bring their boat then contact me. I wont have any open space on my boat tho. It's def a good time and there are alot of 7-8 pounders in there for the taking. My neighbor caught a 7.5 pounder last February out there and has caught dozens of 5-6 pounders as well. I just gotta learn more out there and develop the ability to find the fish more often. It is a tough fishery but well worth it.
  6. The ultra soft isnt the best for that purpose. But I use it anyways around rocks, I just cut off the first foot or so every once in a while to get rid of the beat up line. The flip side is that it is very very strong even when dinged up. I havent had any problems with it. The regular yo-zuri has way too much memory for my liking. Not as much an issue on baitcasters but terrible for spinning gear.
  7. Just spoke with Teri Olinger over at Warbirds and he said the bass are bedding and have been since at least last weekend. So I'm headed back in a few hours for the weekend. I'm gonna fish saturday and sunday. The bite should be fantastic and landing some 4+ pounders shouldnt be a problem as long as I can find the coves where these hawgs are hiding. Any tips on the best baits to use on bedding bass out there ? The water temps should at least be in the high 50's all over the lake and much warmer the closer you get to the power plant. I'm also gonna hit up dy ke one for some of the fish that havent started spawning yet. Should be a blast. Any mature folks wanna bring a boat down then send me a message, I already have at least one other forum member coming down with his boat tommorow. Let the good times roll.
  8. I been itchin for a new Paul thread cuz I know Im gonna see quality fish. Those are gorgeous btw. I was just hoping I would see some more 10 pound bass. Did you eat any of those fish ? Good times
  9. So very true. Ever notice how much further a texas rigged senko casts then a wacky rigged senko ? Big difference. Lil things like that make a difference. Thats why I love using the zappu wacky jig heads so much now.
  10. I think for the money the yo-zuri ultra soft cannot be beat. Its $12 plus shipping at cabelas for a 600 yard spool. Oh and here's my Daiwa Pixilla on my fave finesse rod, the mbr842 glx
  11. Now I'm startin to think twice bout bass fishin in flordia for vacation. Hmm maybe I could wear one of those shark proof chain diving suits incase I fall overboard. Great pics btw, keep them coming.
  12. The bait monkey owns me right bout now. I have spent around 3 grand on rods, reels and tackle since christmas. Replaced my entire arsenal of rods and reels and added alot of soft plastics, lures, jerkbaits and tons of other stuff that I will probably never even use :-[
  13. I use Matzuo sometimes, Dicks sporting goods sells them for 4 bux but they have been on sale for 3 bux lately. They catch fish about as good as a lucky craft pointer for me. I also have a dozen or so pointers but having lost a few over the winter, Im cautious about where I throw them now. Just cuz a lure costs 15-20 bux doesnt mean it's gonna catch way more fish.
  14. That's not true, they do exist. On that note, if anyone has a left-handed premier they want to sell me, please let me know. Abu made them in lefties I know, but according to the manager whom I know pretty well. He said he didnt see any lefties in his database company wide. He also said he didnt remember ever seeing one or selling one.
  15. were they selling for full retail price at the classic ? And most importantly to me, are they made in china ? If shimano is selling a 350-400 dollar rod that isnt made in Japan or the USA then they are makin a killin and offering subpar rods in that price range. I will stick with loomis until I know more about these rods.
  16. My friend Brent told me there is tons of them under the bridge that goes over route one. Altho I think he might have meant the other bridge, the new one that takes u right into lorton. 34 degrees is crazy low water temps. I guess Im spoiled fishing 63-67 degree water at lake anna. And yes they can put up a hellova fight. My girl caught one that was 13 inches long and over a pound and I thought she had a 3 pound bass at first the way it fought. Good times
  17. Seems like this topic died off a few weeks ago. I know there has got to be more folks fishing this technique. Anyone else catchin fish on this? I had a good day last week using the 1/8 ounce with a 4 inch senko. The area I was fishing was rip rap and about 8 feet deep. The fish couldnt get enough of this rig. I bought some flick shakes, 1/16 , and 3/32 weights too so when I go back out to my spot this weekend I'll give those a try too.
  18. oh btw since you're local and a revo fan, the GM in fredericksburg is supposed to be gettin 8 more of the 2009 revo premiers which are on sale for $129. Shipment will be there next thursday.
  19. just talked to someone at the local GM and they dont even carry lefty premiers in the company.
  20. I hope they have lefties local cuz I wouldnt mind tryin one for pitchin. If I hate it I can always sell it for what I paid no prob
  21. 12 pound test ? Not the best choice. If you're gonna throw super light stuff you should use 8 or 10 pound. I been using 8 pound and fishing rocks/rip rap and had no issues.
  22. Ya alot of ppl do it. I seen some videos on youtube that talk about it too. It makes alot of sense.
  23. The guy from grey goat was a super nice guy . I talked to him all thruout the day. He's the kinda person I like to buy from and support. Said that was his first show ever, he usually sells from his site exclusively. Lemme know how his gear works out. Did you get spinnerbaits ?
  24. Plz tell me you got some bass mixed in there too . How in the heck did you end up with a hundred perch anyways ? What were you using?
  25. The Daiwa sol is great, I loved mine but I like my pixy alot better. I sent mine away and got everything upgraded , all pixilla upgrades done and its fantastic now. I love pitchin light stuff with it. The sol will suit your needs just fine too and is a close second. I have it on a mbr842 glx and it has to be the ultimate light/finesse setup for me. I'm using yo-zuri 8 pound test ultra soft hybrid line. Also consider a Daiwa Alphas, those can be had on ebay for between 175-275 used depending on which model you go with. I'm bout to get a type r alphas and the new pixy coming out as well to round out my arsenal.
