Its like fishing the dead sea
I know people talk about the hot side like it's got no bass but I did well there over the winter. All it takes is to be there for several days in a row to find a pattern in a few good areas and you can slam fish. My buddy Mike has been catching 20-30 bass a day on both the hot and cold sides lately. I usually catch small ones out there but it's still fun regardless. I wouldnt say it's a good place for a novice to go and try to catch numbers tho, thats for sure.

It has some nice markings on it I noticed when I was holding it. probably something toxic , who knows. Im headed back out with Brent right now, launching out of pohick and fishing LHC, pohick and maybe a few other spots. The tide is gonna be goin out all day with low tide around when the the sun goes down. Should be interesting. Hoping I catch my biggest bass of the year today which would have to be over 4 lbs. Seems like everyone else has caught 5+ pounders this year except for me. I need to get in some kinda zone.

Its like fishing the dead sea
Lake Anna is great. I fished there on the private side alot over the winter and caught alot of fish, mostly 2 pounds and under. The cold side(public) is chalk full of 5-10 pound bass. They are about to be spawning there if they arent already. Im headed back down next week for some spawning action. It takes time to figure that place out tho, its not like the potomac river where anyone can go out and catch at least a couple bass. There is very little grass there btw, it's mostly wood, rocks and fishing points. If you're into target fishing then the boat docks always produce but I tend to see smaller bass around the docks unless they are bedding.

Looking to buy my first boat, please help
G3 makes real nice boats in that price range. Just make sure if it isnt a welded hull that it doesnt leak. Those older riveted hulls can be very leaky. Leaks can be hard to find and tricky to fix sometimes. U dont wanna be out on the water for a few hours and then realize u have 4 inches of water in the boat. Contact the guy who sells boat insurance on here , I think his name is Bob. I bought my policy from him actually. Best price anywhere and best policy. For a boat like you want it would only cost maybe 150 bux for the year to insure it, money well spent. Stay away from anything that needs work cuz ppl pawn off their problems on others when they sell boats. Be very picky and skeptical, that is your safest bet. There are tons of inexpensive metal boats out there so take your time

mid level priced trolling motors
I love my 1992 stratos 201 but Im not gonna keep it forever, but in the meantime I wanna better trolling motor then the original OMC that's on there now. I think its a 55 pound thrust and my boat is 20 feet long. I don't wanna get something too nice incase I sell the boat after this summer. I would hate to give away a thousand dollar trolling motor with it. So I been looking at the minn kota edge, maxxum and powerdrive as well as the motorguides. I was thinkin of gettin a 70 pound thrust since I can get one on ebay for around 550 bux. Ebay has by far the best deals on trolling motors from what I have seen. An 80 pound is a big price jump. I do fish tidal rivers and in rough conditions sometimes, not quite like Lake Erie tho. How much of a difference would an 80 pound make over a 70 ? And how much better is a maxxum then an edge model ? How does the powerdrive compare ? And is one brand really better then the other or is along the lines of daiwa vs. shimano ? Also I notice most of the powerdrives on ebay are 54 inch shaft, will that be too long ? I do fish alot of shallow weedy water , sometimes less then 2 feet deep. I have e tendency to bump the shaft into rocks and stumps too, the potomac river is full of them. So what should I do ? Thanks in advance .

very true . For some reason I been havin better luck on high tide and slack tide so far this season on the potomac tho. probably just a coinkydink. Headed back out tommorow most likely and then next week off to the cold side of lake anna for 5,6 and 7 pound spawning bass. Full moon on the 28th, the bite should absolutely be on fire by then pretty much everywhere.- Northern Virginia Fishing
simonsays u can come fishing with me anytime champ ;D- Fishing for hogs on the potomac
Thats cuz u havent went fishing with me. I been catching at least 10-12 fish almost every time I go out. Thats not slayin 'em but catching some is better then nothing. Usually stay out for 3-5 hours or so. Lots of 2-3 pounders and a few bigger ones. U just gotta lemme know when u guys are avilable to go. That u pizzay ? I'm almost ready Steve. I'm sure you remember, but just a little reminder, you gave me some nice advice on this forum on buying the boat I eventually ended up with. I took the "new to me" bass boat out for a couple of shake out runs, and it turns out it needed new rectifiers for the charging circuit (wouldn't recharge the batteries), and the lower unit had a very minor leak that I decided to go ahead and fix. The mechanic talked me into replacing the water impeller. He told me that since they have the lower unit off anyway to fix the leak, the water impeller is easy and cheap to take care of, and you never know when its going to go. There's a 50/50 chance they will have it ready before this weekend. If not, then it will definately be ready for next weekend. I'll pm you when I know the boat is ready, and hopefully we can get together on the Potomac. Send me a pm and you can follow me in your boat out to where I fish no prob. Jake, I need to find my old phone so I can get ur bro's number. I got rid of virgin mobile and got a new number about 2 weeks ago.- another potomac thread
It's too easy to hit stuff at low tide. Yesterday I was idling away from a spot gettin ready to get on plane and I whacked something pretty good. Not sure what it was. So much safer at high tide to get from spot to spot. I also catch bigger fish at high tide for some reason- another potomac thread
went out today around 4 and fished till 7. Stayed mostly in the same small area in mattawoman.Water temps were 67 when I got out there and fell to 63 when I left.Only managed 8 fish. All they wanted from me was a senko today which I havent really thrown in a few months since winter on lake anna. The biggest was almost 3.5 pounds and I got several that were just short of 2 pounds and then a couple dinks. Nothing to get too excited about. Better luck next time I guess. I really do hate fishing at low tide.- Fishing for hogs on the potomac

on a lighter note, anyone wanna hit the river with me ? My friend cant make it today and I wanna go out asap. I hate goin alone so someone hit me up. Theres hardly any wind out there and it's a nice day. Plus we wont get our tails kicked on the water with my 20 foot bassboat. Launching out of leesylvania most likely. Most likely we will catch at least a few quality bass if not several- Fishing for hogs on the potomac
Is that Gabe holding that massive striper ? Dang Gabe finally got on some big fish if it his him.- Northern Virginia Fishing
No one is hating. But your claims were totally bogus, thats all. The fish pic you just posted today tho, thats a different story. And I said earlier that I gave u props for catching quality fish esp from a place like burke lake. You obviously know what youre doing out there but your sense of size/weight is way off scale or no scale. I would say your latest pic is def a 6+ pounder. You're startin to come off a lil cocky tho. Simma down and relax.- another potomac thread
LHC is the real bank robber on here , Im just an imposter ;D NOVA angler sending pm ur way Headed back out now to mattawoman and another spot Im gonna keep secret- Northern Virginia Fishing
I wish I knew who she was so I could get more pics. Found it thru a bubbles search on the google machine. Long live the Trailer Park Boys Im bout to head out now on the river. High tide for mattawoman is around noon or so. Hoping the water didnt get too cold last night. I scored a new vendetta spinning rod for 40 bux ! So imma go test it out ;D- Buying reels on EBay???
I have bought and sold alot of stuff on ebay. I bought 2 reels from a guy once and when they arrived they were in awful shape. So he paid for return shipping and refunded my money. I always use bing * cashback when I use buy it now. Its usually an 8 percent cashback but sometimes it goes as high as 15-20 percent. I bought most of my glx rods using cashback rewards and paid around 280 each for 400 dollar rods brand new. Go to bing and type buyitnow in the search engine and it will say what the percentage is. Takes 2-3 months to get the money back in ur paypal but it always works 100 percent. 701nodaksports is the best g loomis seller on ebay as far as price goes. I wouldnt buy from anyone else unless they beat their price and had good feedback. I think "oh ya sales" owns 701nodasksports tho cuz the shippping tube said oh ya on it. Might have been drop shipped from oh ya, not sure.- Northern Virginia Fishing
I bet no one on here could even guess how much the fish in your avatar weighs Jake. I know cuz I weighed it and took the pic. By bigbasskillers standards it's a 6 pounder 8-) is it 4.5lbs? Anyways, I think the guy gets the point. back on topic! Also, stop mixing up bigbasskiller and bigbasshunter! Killer is the OP and just looking for some info! actually it was 2.5 pounds on my digital rapala scale. And I will say that even tho his fish werent as big as he says, he still caught some nice bass, bigger then any I have caught so far this year so he still gets props for that. What was this thread about again ?- Northern Virginia Fishing

Im happy for Skeet. Doesnt look like it's gonna be KVD's year unless he gets his act together fast. And that Bobby Lane keeps doing well too, dont sleep on that guy. Congrats to Ish also- Snakehead recipes ?
I have two snakeheads on ice that I wanna eat. One is 8 pounds and one is 7 pounds. I was plannin on just eating the tail sections and maybe toss everything midsection and above out for the coons. From what I hear the tail is the most tender part and I would assume like most fish probably the sweetest tasting part too. Any suggestions ? Should i chop some up into bite size pieces and deep fry them, maybe cut them into steaks or just fillets ? I have enough fish to probably try several different ways. I need some ideas from anyone who has eaten them before. - another potomac thread
