Northern Virginia Fishing
very true. None of those are even close. The biggest ones are probably between 3-4.5 pounds at most. Smallest one is around a pound and a half tops

What'd ya'll do this weekend? I witnessed a small scale riot.
I did't graduate. I left early since my gpa was falling and I pursued the real estate market which at the time was booming. This was around 2000 or so. I transfered there after 3 semesters at NOVA tech lol. My jazz piano performance degree wouldnt have been worth jack anyways. Back when I was there I lived in hunters ridge and there was a big party basically 5 nights a week. The townies didnt bother us much altho at the bars they would tend to get into it with students. I never carried a piece when on campus, no need. But when I went out to parties I was almost always carrying. You never know who's gonna try and sneak up on ya in the dark walking around from party to party. There was a shooting right in front of our townhouse one night and its a good thing I was inside minding my own business. Back then JMU was rated top ten in the USA for beautiful girls and Im sure its still crawling with cuties. Been about 5-6 years since I been back there to party, Im gettin old

We must have been there at the same time then. From almost every party I went to when I was there , there are lots of knuckle heads that attend jmu. Never saw many townies making trouble or anything like that. Was usually some big meat head who wanted to start fights.I seen many people get knocked out. I carried a gun when I was there actually , never had a problem

Clash of the Titans review
Saw it yesterday in 3d and thought it was just ok. Also I think it should have been an imax film. Regular 3d is a joke imo. There were times I took my glasses off and everything looked the same to me. Dont waste your money on 3d, go see it in regular format if you must see it at all. Anyone else that saw it and expected more too ? Not enough action imo and not enough screen time for the Krakken either. I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

got out last night at 5:30 and got 2 hours of fishing in. The water temps were down to 63 and the bite sucked. Was I just in the wrong place or did the cold front really screw the bite up. I fished the same places that I fished a few days earlier and this time I only managed 3 fish all under 2 pounds > Headed back out today for a bit to try my luck in the 77 degree weather

Finally got one worthy of a picture today
Guess I haven't caught a decent one in so long that I'm a little off on weights. Is it safe to say that that is a male fish? From what I've read when they make the beds before spawn it often causes their tails to bleed like this one in the photo. If that is a male then it's one of the biggest males I have seen. The females are usually twice the size give or take. Most the bucks I see are under 3 pounds. Oh and hey didnt I sell you a shimano core a while back ?

You're blessed to live near such a great fishery. Very nice fish. Well done.

Carbed Motors...Wow
I have a 200 johnson gt motor on my stratos. Its from the early 90's and man does it suck gas down. I probably get around 1 mpg with it. Every time I go out and fish I use probably 5-7 gallons of fuel. It is reliable tho and runs well. This was my first glass boat and I wanted to learn on something older and cheaper. But more and more now I'm wanting something more fuel efficient.

Trolling Motor Suggestion.
A 55 pound running on 12 volts will suck down that battery if you're using it to scoot around the lake. Even worse if it gets windy. I would look on craigslist or ebay for some cheap used 55+ transom mount motors. I see them all the time listed for dirt cheap. With the money you save, buy another battery. Then you can run all day on high speed with no worries. You're always gonna wish you had more power. A 70 pound thrust will really push that boat around. Dont rush into anything, save the cash you need to get a bigger better motor and another battery.

Liberto PIXY
I have an orange pixy with all the pixilla upgrades except the tdz line guide. Its a superb reel when you're makin wrist roll casts to get under tree limbs, boathouses/docks or any other tight spaces to avoid snags. The fact that it is so light with a light spool makes pitching and wrist roll casts a breeze. I have mine on a loomis glx mbr 842 and man is it a sweet combo. I use it alot more then my supertuned steezes infact. I have caught 75 percent of my fish on that combo since I got it maybe 3 months ago. The new pixy looks sinister, I love it. Sounds like Daiwa made all the right changes too. One thing I cannot stand about my pixy is how slow the gear ratio is. Way too slow imo and the new faster pixy should be a hit. Im gonna get two of them ;D

St Croix Avid series rod reviews
I own one avid 7'mh and its fantastic. It was the first high end rod I bought ever. Now I also own 6 loomis glx rods and honestly they arent twice as nice for twice the price. They are a lil lighter and more sensitive but you have to pay a lot for a little difference. Stick with the avid series over anything else in that price range including shimano cumaras which are just overpriced chinese rods. The only thing bout the avid is the handle is a lil on the thick side but you can sand that hump right off pretty easily if it doesnt feel right to you. Oh and I have to disagree bout suggesting the shimano stradic ci4. I own one and it is the most overrated piece of gear I have ever had in my hands. Yes it is a lil lighter then alot of other reels but it isnt nearly as smooth as a regular stradic and the handle is way way too short , not to mention you dont get a spare spool with it and that will really limit someone who only has a few rods and reels to take fishing. Good luck with whatever you choose, you wont regret buying anything from st croix.

Learning Lessons(Northern virginia)
Sometimes shore fishing at Anna can be good if you know where to go. My friend Mike caught an 8 pounder from shore at Anna about 3 weeks ago. Heck I can catch tons of small ones right off of my boathouse all year. For years I didnt have a boat and I used to catch bass, sunfish and catfish all day from shore on the warm side. There is even a public fishing area there where you can cast to the warm side or the cold side depending on which side of the bridge you stand on. I seen guys catch many big stripers off that bridge and it's free to use. You have to either know where to go or have friends who own property there. It doesnt have anywhere near the shore potential as the potomac tho thats for sure. I bet riverside park is heating up now, from what I heard the big bass are staging at the mouth of LHC feeding right before they spawn.

Loudoun County Fishing?
edited: Seriously tho, March and April are very windy months and happen to be prime fishing months too. Even my 20 foot gets blown around in 10+ mph winds. A powerpole is the best solution. Those of you guys fishing out of kayaks, I dont know how you manage out there unless you're using an anchor.

I only wish I had started throwing the jig a few hours earlier instead of an hour before I had to leave. And I was catchin my fish in areas where no one really ever fishes very much when I'm out there. It's somewhat overlooked. I always see guys flying by on their bassboats. I have been goin to this area since I started on the potomac last summer and its always good for at least a few decent bass. I really need to stock up on some more of those Daves tournament tackle jigs too. For 3 bux they are impossible to beat. I also need some paca craws in the bigger size to match up better with these jigs, I was using a baby paca and I think that hurt me a little. I'm pretty stoked to have such a good first river outing this spring and it can only get better. You really need to get a day off sometime so you can join me, or at least an early day off for half a day of fishing.

between 4.5 and 5 pounds but no more. Long fish but looks like she hasnt been eating too good. With a full belly that would be over 6 pounds. Very nice and bigger then anything I have caught so far this year. Congrats.

Got to fish the river for the first time this year and had a blast. Fished Mattawoman between fire island and trash point for the most part. I caught over a dozen bass out there from 3:30-7:30 pm. High tide was around 6:30 or so. Caught a couple that were just right at 4 pounds at slack tide. Most came on a warbirds spinnerbait and a Daves football jig. My biggest fish all came on the jig. Got several 2 pounders on a crankbait and some more small ones on a fluke as well. All in all I caught them on spinnerbait, fluke, crankbait and a jig. There was no wind to speak of until around 6 oclock. Perfect ideal conditions for sure. Hopefully next time out I will get on some 5-6 pounders. Still not bad for my first time on the river in over 4 months. Anyone else gettin results on the river feel free to post up please.

fountain head
Go to leesylvania park and buy an annual launch pass for around 130 bux. Focus on fishing the potomac since you dont have a 9.9 motor. You can drive straight across to mattawoman creek and catch bass on the regular. Good luck

A new phenomenon for 2010...
I remember a few months ago a member who's no longer on this forum, posted a new PB thread with one shotty pic of the fish on the ground, claiming it was over 7 pounds. The fish was probably around 5 or so judging by the pic, who knows. I just thought it was funny that a few months earlier he told me his PB was 7 pounds on a weighed fish. Yet his new unweighed fish was now his PB. Some ppl are just so full of themselves that all I can do is step back and have a good laugh. I also think it's funny when I hear guys saying" we caught a bunch but nothing over 3 pounds" In reality they caught a bunch of 1-2 pound fish. So I guess the "nothing over 3 pounds" is kinda true eh.

Lake Anna warm side this week
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I got a kick out of catching something different for a change. But I wouldnt wanna have to deal with these lil monsters on a regular basis. I was just glad I didnt lose any fingers or toes in the process of gettin the hook out : I think he was smiling cuz he had just eaten a bunch of fish, there was blood around his mouth and I hooked him in a boney part where there was no blood at all.
