Weather is changing- new rod builds....
Here's a pic of my current build, a Forecast MB843 that will be my primary jig rod. Royal Blue and Steel Blue Met are the colors. And a reamer is in the works, too.

Rod Customizing
I'm 'paying my dues' with an 18 year old son. I can read stuff you wouldn't believe! :'( You say that it has something else in there already. Is it a plastic insert that you can pull out and see the open end of the blank? Cutting the rim off of a 12 or 16 guage hull should be easy with a fine-tooth (24 to 36 TPI) hacksaw blade. Leave about 1/8" of wall on it and take it to the bench grinder or Dremel next. Are we on the same page, yet? These sites are Non-Profit so, I think that Glenn might allow thier mention. Rodbuilding.org and rodbuildingforum.com. The latter has a cool pic gallery, Mudhole Tackle also has a board. Heck, Wally Bass Breath! If you asked nicely and Glenn approved, I have enough material laying around to do a pictoral that I could put up and do a little amatuer journalism thingy putting a rim in an EVA piece.

First Question
He might have an Ace JF. With this company doing this - it shows that they want another line of Customer Interaction. I see that as a darn good thing, bro.

Welcome!
Right On 8-) . Welcome, Marc! I'm sure you'll be an asset to this place! One question, though... Do ya fish?

Rod Customizing
I think he is, David. BfW, it sounds like you want to 'inlay' the cut-off rim of a shotshell into the end of an existing butt grip. Am I correct? If so, are you dealing with cork, or foam or what? There are a few really good rod-building sites out there with pics of folks work. If it's not against the law, I could provide a few links.

couple cranks I carved
GMAN and all you other lure-crafters - I hope you guys don't get me started on another 'hobby'. I just started building rods in the last year and this looks like it is too closely related. :-/ If I do take it up, though, I won't blame you. There's a lot a very sweet baits posted in here!

Spinnerbait vs. Crankbait
When I want a PBJ sandwich, I want a PBJ. When I want a burrito, I'll fight you for sour cream. Fish like PBJ. There's miniscule wisdom buried in there.

Hooks for Plastics
I'm sorry my TN bro (I was born/raised in Memphis) but, I just learned about spreadsheets 7 years ago and my lack of 'puter skills never factored in. Are you getting a little too deep into it?? :-?

After a year and a half wait, Frogzilla is complete.
That's very nice, Robert. Would you be interested in selling the shipping tube?

Rods
Hi lt - not to sound like a smarty-pants but, you're kinda going about it backwards. One will usually begin by asking "What will I be fishing for and with what reel and line?", then choose a rod to compliment that. Since you already have that nice Loomis, I would recommend using it for jigs and/or worms. The 6-6 length will give you the ability to cast these deep-working baits farther. IMHO, topwater baits are better served with a 5 to 6 footer, giving one better accuracy in lure placement.

You're hardcore 'old' like me! :

spiral wrap rod
Buddy, I hope you know that it's not how deep the water is. It's how fast it moves that hurts and you're about to be caught in the current!

Hooks on Jitter bugs
I take the hooks off of my Jitterbugs. I mean 'OFF' and no replacements. This lure is so good I just like to mess with the fish sometimes. Okay, I'll 'fess up. I do have two with hooks.

Used Shimanos????
Just a bunch of snot-nosed kids here, I see. : Chunk a Spook with a Bantam Black Magnum. Sink feathers. EDIT: Pardon me. I didn't mean that the way it sounded. I'm having probs wrapping a dbl foot and getting frustrated.

when we were young....
Bill Dance was in his early tweens and Jelly Worms actually tasted like jelly. You could buy little 4 oz spray cans to "renew" your Jelly Worms if the factory scent didn't get you high. Jimi Hendrix was gone but Jimmy Buffett was good. We ate a lot of chloresterol and watched the Denver Broncos win the Super Bowl. I bought a truck from John Elway and the tranny went out six years later. >

new to bull shoals
Start with a big breakfast at Bel-Arco and get it as deep as your tummy will fill. You will want the white gravy and you dip your biscuit IN it. The Tobasco on your taters (some folks calls 'em hash browns. I calls 'em taters) is free. Right there on the table! Hmmmm. Bull is deep, clear and, mostly void of 'cover'. March is a hard month. Weather very unpredictable. We can swing 50 either way in 24 hrs or hold between 24 and 32 all day. That's our tornado season kicking in. We eat good, though. If you Yankees come down, bring your walleye rigs. It's kinda wierd hooking a wally on a grape Jelly Worm but...

spiral wrap rod
Neither did I when I got my first, a Bud Erhardt Fishin Stick back in '89 or '90. It was a nice rod but... I tried (and bought) another 3 years later and it blew the other one away. I've recently taken to building and will be wrapping a spiral rod tonight. Listening to the Ozark Mtn Daredevils, a few beers and reading the forums! 8-) If I may add to the comments above... IMHO; with a spiral-wrap, if you tend to be a 'line feeler' (as in always having a fingertip in light contact with the line), a properly built (Acid Rod, Roberts Wrap, etc) one will excel in sensitivity. It really shines in applications such as working jigs down bluff steps or fishing TX rig worms on soft bottoms where you're working intently, slowly and need to feel everything. On my first REALLY good spiral, I thought that my brand-new reel was grinding. I could actually feel and HEAR a bad noise. It was the vibes that the blank was resonating as I was loading with Trilene XL. Scared me at first! Got it wet and the noise stopped. What are the advantages of a spiral wrapped rod? To answer your original question...The advantage is in the fact that few folks know about them and 86.2% of those that do, think they're funky looking.

I just don't like the color !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It sounds to me that you might be a candidate for a custom! Step into my office. 8-) Seriously though, for the price of that rod, you would be surprised at what a rod-builder can set you up with for the same dough. You can choose any component in any color and dictate the color of thread wraps on the guides. Make it a spiral wrap, even!!

So... you're saying that he is 'prematurely grey'?

Beaver Lake, Bull Shoals Lake water temps
Sounds like a plan my Memphis bro (I was born there)! You're only 4 hours away. Where is GMAN from in MO? Norfork is my main lake but, I spend a few hours on Bull from time-to-time. We can discuss boat arrangements later. I have a little 335V Ranger that fits two comfy. Keep in touch. 8-)

Beaver Lake, Bull Shoals Lake water temps
The water temp or the air? We hit 70* today. Boy, I sure hope we're not setting up for a repeat of 2/5/2008. Tornadoes kinda tic me off. >

Beaver Lake, Bull Shoals Lake water temps
Hey Kent. Thanks for posting that link! I just knew that there had to be a good report-site for Bull as Norfork has a few. I don't know how I never found it but, it's a bookmark now! I like the way it goes back a few reports. That kinda helps reveal patterns. Thx again!
