  1. Is it best to buy a shimano reel and pair it with a shimano rod or could i put the shimano reel on a daiwa rod?
  2. how does the tierra compare to the citica, I am really not interested in the bps pq because while on sale it is not in 6.4:1.
  3. I too am adding to my baitcaster collection, I am looking at the same reels as you, i have seen the revo s with the allstar rod at dick's sporting goods, I was completely unimpressed with the rod, I am leaning tword the citica, but am not sure what rod to pair it with yet, I did play around with the revo, but from first impressions I don't think it is the same shimano quality, how ever I have not used either the citica or revo on the water.
  4. I like the price of the pq on sale but i am also considering the Tierra I don't know much about either one so I am completely open to all suggestions, this will be my fourth baitcaster.
  5. Here is one, there are a bunch of videos of them on youtube.
  6. I was fishing the white river (in Indy) and saw some big ones jumping, I don't know why the carp jump but they do. I took of my texas rigged craw papi and put on a rye bread dough ball. waited about 10 minutes, then the rod went up and down and i set the hook. It was about 7lbs. I went out a week later and tried white bread, I was hoping my buddy would catch one, I had no luck. I am not a carp fisherman, that is the only one i have caught without snagging it, so i don't know much about corn, but i hear it works too.
  7. I have a question for RW, but any one can answer, you said medium heavy or heavy on single hook lures, does that apply to carolina rigged worms or would medium action be better? I am asking because I have resently maid carolina rigged worms my first choice, when I am not on the river.
  8. you could always go to sufix, a bit more expensive, but a much better performer than stren, braid is probably the best choice, once again sufix makes a good braid or power pro is also very good.
  9. some of us have a tight budget, and may not be able to afford the really expensive reels out there. from the experience of anyone reading this, what are the top performers of the under $100 class and what are the under performers. Also add the rods/reels you use to give anyone else who reads this thread some insight on what they could use.
  10. I never fish or throw a deep diver on the local river, the deepest wholes I fish are probably 10 ft. no body that fishes around me throw anything deeper than a bandit 200, so it sounds like I will be able to get away with a 7.0:1 or so highspeed reel. thanks. Jack
  11. this is a bit off the topic, but what rod length, actions do you like for throwing crankbaits?
  12. what is the best gear ratio for a crankin' setup?
  13. ten pound florocarbon, that is the best, 8 or 12 will be fine though.
  14. If you leave them whole and put them on the jig you can catch some big fish.
  15. I don't like rapalas, as much as the bandits, but when I buy a rapala I get baby bass Bandits: -clear water- Rootbeer -stained water- Rootbeer chartruce and if those aren't working, red craw.
  16. I have stayed away from the stuff, just sounds a little goofy. Berkely had a good idea, but I just dont see how the line would be that great.
  17. What are some quality 2 man kayaks that would be perfect to fish in?
  18. the gears in the front on the level wind use oil, not grease?
  19. I was out yesterday, and the water was high after the snow melt and rain. I found them schooled up right in the seems between the fast and the slow water. I was throwing a rattle trap, and it had to be thrown up stream. I fished it both by throwing into the current and reeling into the slow water, and into the slow water then reeled it through the fast water, only got bit when i pulled it through the seam though.
  20. When I am taking care of my rods and reels, what do I put oil on and what do I put grease on?
  21. yes the bandits are nice, best colors, this is all you will need, rootbear, rootbear chartruse, and red craw. Talked to a guy that used to fish flw, now he just guides the white river, but he told me those are the colors to use. Also prowler lures makes a nice 3in stuby tube, get a few of those in roadkill, and you will be set.
  22. Isn't that so true, best lures for 09: -silver rattle trap -spinner bait (strike king burner) -berkely gulp on a jig head
  23. First time it happened it was over the summer. I was throwing a x-calibur, silver lipless crank bait. catching a bunch of short fish, hadn't been out long and was sure I was going to just slam them. I hook a short smallmouth, and when i say short I mean short. I couldn't get my thumb in it's mouth cuz it was full of trebbles. so i grab onto the line just above the lure. The fish decides to shake and the next thing i know it feels like i just got a shot from a doctor. I closed my eyes, hadn't evern seen the damage, but knew what had happened. I look down to see a bass on the back hooks and my thumb on the front set. I guess the bass caught me. any way, I cut the line get the little bass off, give him a kiss, and I was pretty mad, however this bass would be memorable, so I let him go hoping to get a rematch if he got to 5 #'s. I tried to get the hook out but it hurt so bad. I ended up going to imediate care and got some novicane, and a doctor to remove it.
