  1. One quick , hard ****** with the needle nose pliers and make another cast.
  2. Oh yeah .It's cool no doubt. Bio-luminescence causing blue trails from any movement in the water at night. It has to be seen to be believed. I used to wonder if it was caused by too much rocket fuel in the water , but I guess it is a natural phenomenon. Have you caught a fish in it yet? It is wild when a good fish is thrashing about. It could make one suspect he was having a flashback.
  3. Nickajack, cordell Hull or whatever is close to you. It doesn't have to be a big lake ,though. The "pot hole" below any dam will provide good fishing.
  4. " take the browns to the super bowl" Dude ,you ain't right. ;D
  5. I have several Falcons and like them. I have also dealt with the customer service manager over a warranty issue .He was extremely helpful and friendly and resolved my problem to my complete satisfaction. I will be getting at least one more Falcon very soon. I have not owned any of the other two rods mentioned . Falcon rods are made in America ,by the way.
  6. Why are they a problem? Don't they just eat rabbits and stuff like that? Is it all a matter of herpetophobia ? When I see a snake I just see a wild animal; not the devil delivering apples of seduction or evil incarnate. I think the critter in the picture is pretty cool looking .It is a shame it is dead.
  7. The highland reservoirs of southern Appalachia are going through some changes in forage. Blue back herring have invaded in a big way. Threadfin shad were the major forage just a few years ago and are still here ,but the recently introduced blue backs are multiplying exponentially in massive schools that can be seen near the surface after the spring turnover. I "think" the feeding habits of the fish are changing to match the habits of the blue-backs . Also, the number of whitebass in these lakes has been drastically affected . At Hiwassee , for example, up until a few years ago whites were abundant and big schools churned the surface chasing shad all summer. Now they are gone. The first reports supposedly from the biologists was that the blue-backs contained an oil that prevented the eggs of whitebass and walleye from reaching maturity.Later rumors of reports stated that the eggs of the whitebass were extremely appealing to the blue-backs as food.Perhaps it is a combination of the two factors. At any rate ,The whitebass are practically gone from this 7000 acre lake were they were plentiful until recently . Also ,the walleye average size caught has increased with a noticeable lack of smaller fish being harvested.Who knows what other changes will occur over time? Lakes are organic systems constantly evolving and changing. Equilibrium may be a myth we hope for that can definitely be punctuated by the invasion or implantation of exotics.
  8. I have caught many smallmouth on worms .The last one was a 3 pounder yesterday around 8 pm. I carolina rig in the lakes with zoom finesse. I texas rig when I'm in the creek. There is an old saying," you can't fish a worm too slow". Sometimes I get slammed ripping them in to make another cast though. That second between when you think one might have picked it up and you set the hook is what makes the plastic worm my favorite lure.
  9. Bass , bluegill, and crappie. That is all you need. Why would you want anything else unless it was shiners to feed what you have?Cat6fish? We don't need no stinking catfish.
  10. Better watch out Uncle. That diet stuff is not good for you. So far this year I have had about 3 drinks and I believe all of those were shots of tequila and not while fishing. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with someone having a cold one on a hot day on the lake if they were so inclined with moderation and discretion observed. From what I have seen it is the water skiers that tend to party on the water; not the fisherman.
  11. You put in the work and effort to figure out your lake . If you tell one person they will tell 4 of their friends who will each tell 6 of their friends and so on. In just a short while you will need to find a new place to figure out . The tournament guys are the ones who ask me for information most often as I'm taking out at the ramp. They are also the least likely ones to offer any specific information in return. I don't want to be told where ,what how and when.I want to work it out for myself.I'm not looking for the easy way out or a free ride and I don't encourage lazy people who just take advantage of the work of others.
  12. Will the fish be spawning in October ? No.

In answer to the first part : Delamination can occur even with expensive brands. As for the second, Don' t expect the wally world specials to be good glasses.Get a better pair and you can wear them all day. I have a pair of costa wavekillers with glass blue mirror lens that are O.K. for very bright conditions. They block a lot of the light but too much for normal inland conditions. They are better suited to blue water. The green mirrors would be better for me.For shallow waters or early and late in the day or slightly overcast conditions ,a copper lens would be better. When it comes to blocking glare, the most important thing is to keep light from reaching the back side of the lens and bouncing back into your eyes . A hat is required along with side shields or at least very wide temples. The Wiley x inserts are designed to seal off the eyes from all light except what comes in from the front of the lens for this reason .I been have wanting to try them but they may cause the eyes to sweat in warm weather with the foam seals in place. I would love to hear from some one who has them on this point.
  14. I agree with cart7. The poor fishy might be traumatized to the point of being afraid to eat ever again. Seriously though. If I was so afraid that I might hurt a fish by catching it, I believe I would find another hobby.Excuse me while I go release the fillets of some friends I met yesterday into some hot oil .
  15. Turtletown,Tn I had already left to fish Blueridge lake and missed it.My wife said she thought a tree fell on the house. A neighbor said he thought a bomb had gone off. There was a loub boom and the house shook. It has been called a tremor by authorities . The last one that I recall in this area was more than 10 years ago. Plate tectonics in motion. Cool stuff.
  16. Well it is nice to see some one sort of close to me finally posting . The rereg lake at at Carters is used for pumpback generation.Water that has gone through the generators on the main dam is pumped back to the main lake. Some water is also released through the lower dam to keep the river going, too. The fishing is much better in the main lake than the rereg. Big spots of 6lbs are not all that uncommon. It is the deepest lake in GA with some areas reaching to almost 400 feet. A lot of timber was left in the lake when it was built .You can fish areas of standing dead timber in 50 feet or more. There are also plenty of stripers .Try the doll mountain park some time for launching.
  17. I stand . My boat came with a seat for the front , but it is in a closet.
  18. I lived in Titusville for a couple of years several years ago. I go down there 3 or 4 times a year still. My biggest red and snook were in Sebastion inlet but my PB trout was 31 inches and weighed 10 lbs. and I caught it with a skitterwalk off the dike road that goes to Peacocks Pocket by way of catfish creek and gator creek. I spent 15 days at the inlet last month(June). My next trip will be Thangksgiving week. That is a great time of year for bouncing flair jigs out of the inlet at night on an outgoing tide but I want to spend at least a couple of days wading some of my old hot spots around T'ville like the flats south of Kennedy point and and maybe around those little islands near where Banana Creek runs into the Indian River in the pocket.
  19. I am a lefty. Does that mean I am sinistral? Anyway , I hold casting , spinning , and fly rods in my left hand and crank with my right. When my right handed son started using my bait-casters ,he complained that he could not set the hook as quickly with the rod in his left hand so now his are left hand retrieve.
  20. Study your school work and make all A's through high school. This will get you into college where you can get a bachelor degree in biology. If you get all A's through this you can go to graduate school for a master's degree in marine biology .If you get all A's in this you can get a doctorate degree in ichthyology .Then you can be the best professional fisherman ESPN has ever seen. So it is simple really.Concentrate on school work for the next 10 years and then you can spend the rest of your life fishing.
  21. A compact , heavy lure like that was probably thrown off as soon as the line broke releasing the tension. With only one relatively large hook , it wouldn't be very hard for the fish to rid himself of it.
  22. Alright! Nice. I'd say you had to work him hard to keep from getting spooled or wrapped in something . The fact that you were not in a boat or using live bait and heavy gear makes it especially cool.
  23. I am using a St.Croix Premier 7'6" ML 1pc for norman deep baby n's.The 7 ' would probably be better as the 7'6'' has a little too much tip flex and storage and transporting is a little more challenging with the longer one, but man it willl chunk it way out there . I use 6 or 8 lb. line because the highland reservoirs I use it in are deep and clear with very little brushy cover.YMMV.
  24. George ; as to guiding you , I am only in that area on a quarterly basis. My next trip will be Thanksgiving week .If you want me to guide you then on say 11-22-09 just send me $220 as non -refundable deposit. The balance of another $220 will be due at the beginning of the trip. Will baloney be O.K. for lunch? :
