What Is The Fall Rate Of A Weightless Gyb Senko?
I think there's a formula to calculate fall rates based on the coefficient of drag on different diameters of line and a sliding scale based on water temperature. The real variable is the ppm of suspended solids which affects the water viscosity of course.

Abu Garcia At Walmart??
Not a fan of combos period. I look at fishing equipment much like buying any other tool. For something I'll use once or twice for a certain project I might grab a Harbor Freight cheapy. If it's something I'll use regularly and want to last for years, I'll research brands & shop for the best price but expect to spend a little money as an investment. In the case of the OP, what you see is what you get.

Nice Spinning Reels?
The pflueger spinning reels are a good bang for the buck. Supreme & Supreme XT have some nice features. I may experiment with a Pinnacle Optimus or Okuma RTX or Helios. The Daiwa Lexa spinner has some good features ad goes for $120. There's a lot to pick from in the $100-$150 range.

He's a dog. Everyone knows that. These are the kind of threads we usually start in Feb. when cabin fever has set in.

St Croix Rods
The Avid and up are where St Croix really shines.

Hybrid Rod
Custom builders do stuff like this somewhat regularly to get specific actions they want. There are so many good blanks out there though I haven't had the need personally. Great way to make use of what may otherwise get scrapped.

Fall Salmon Run
It'll be good to get the fish moving, I just hope the river doesn't blow up for my first trip in Nov. I'm building a 9' 4pc baitcast rod for a guy to do triple duty for inshore, salmon and of course chrome.

Rod's Breaking?
And that flaw, if it exists will be apparent the first couple of times the rod gets a good bend in it.

Finally got these uploaded. The forum doesn't like something about Flickr but here's a link to an album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/126656430@N02/sets/72157646442598673/ Enjoy

Rod's Breaking?
My guess is that your friend has a habit of high-sticking and/or swinging fish. Two most common errors.

What's The Deal With Weight?
IMO it's not as much about being too heavy as it is about sensitivity. For rods, the weight/stiffness ratio is where sensitivity is derived from. An unnecessarily heavy reel mounted can, I suspect, deaden some vibrations and affect balance/feel. A lot of this may be splitting hairs, but that can be said of 90% of the topics we discuss. It all comes down to personal preference at the end of the day.

Which Rod Should I Use For Buzzbaits?
It depends on how soft the moderate action is. I don't like my cranking rods for buzz baits (or spinner baits) due to the heavy hook and too soft a rod can make getting the bait up on plane harder.

Abnormal Level Wind Wear?
Another thought. Is the spool full?

Abnormal Level Wind Wear?
No way line should be contacting that spot. Something is not assembled correctly. There should be a support shaft that holds the assembly straight. What model reel is this? The problem isn't that the part is a bad material. Something else is wrong.

Jerk Bait Rod
A lot of rods marked MH are similar in power the the St Croix M. That's why it's important to know the rod a little and not get too hung up on the subjective labels.

A Tough Dilemma
Having a passion for advertising, marketing or sales rather than a passion for fishing would make someone a better fit to be a pro angler. That's what it's all about, plain and simple. No one is going to live off tournament winnings given the overhead and competition. Endorsements, seminars, guiding, TV show production is where the money is at. Winning, or at least placing well consistently in tournaments gets anglers the visibility they need to make them valuable marketing vehicles. You can do the same thing with a reality show and not need any talent or skills at all outside of a level of charisma. Fishing is best pursued as a hobby and if it evolves into something more, great. Go for it. To make life decisions based on being a Pro Tournament Angler is a recipe for disaster though.

Abnormal Level Wind Wear?
The only place a level wind comes in contact with the line is the guide and most have an insert of some kind. If the worm gear is worn that's something else entirely. What model is the reel and can you explain the problem more clearly?

Jerk Bait Rod
That will work. If you get to a point of looking to acquire a technique specific rod consider the opinions above.

Jerk Bait Rod
The weight of a HJ 10 can be thrown on either a M or MH depending on the rods design. In spite of them being a treble hook lure, I like a fast but, soft tip. This allows a more subtle action to be applied and I worry about keeping them hooked after getting bites. If I'm fishing more of a slash bait or ripping a lure a mod-fast works.

When You T-Rig Is It Normally Weighted Or Unweighted?
I voted weighted, primarily because that's how I've always defined a T-rig. Weightless plastics rigged weedless is how I refer to Senkos, Flukes etc
