  1. Hi everyone. Heads up, I’ll be doing an Instagram live talk @DaveMillerFishing. Tonight a little after 7pm et. He’s doing a recap of the BFL Chesapeake tx and I’ll be with him right after. It’s a chance to put a face with the name and see what we do if you don’t know. Hope to see you all there.
  2. Yes, bail wire bending and dirty hinges are the cause of this 90% of the time. Bail springs aren’t as common a problem now that compression springs are used instead of the old round ones.
  3. Boca is the big player. I have some here if you want to email me I’ll make a PayPal invoice
  4. Hm. There’s room in my inbox but you can call me 973-459-2835 or email mlawson@delawarevalleytackle.com
  5. Yes, a good quality, SS bearing flushed and lightly oiled is plenty fast in real world scenarios. Bearings can be of ABEC quality but not gone thru the verification process which I suspect is the case with shimanos spool bearings.
  6. After market ABEC 5 ss bearings from a trusted source will be cheaper than OEM bearings and as good or better, but if your ordering parts paying shipping twice might eat into the difference.
  7. The deal with bearings is yes, many brands originate from the same sources but counterfeit is problem in the industry. For the few bucks you’ll save a reel or two, the legwork to find cheap and dependable suppliers isn’t worth the effort.
  8. Where are you located? I can diagnose and get pricing for parts before you decide to scrap it.
  9. I see lots of reels where even the max and min designation is impossible to see. If you can’t remember which way is which mark it.
  10. I’m with this 100%. My hand makes little contact with the grip after the cast. Plus what we feel is movement of the blank more than vibration. Lighter is better imo but outside of that grip material and style is largely a cosmetic concern.
  11. All the reel companies farm out some or all of their production for their own brands. All these “who makes…” discussions are somewhat irrelevant at the end of the day except unless one is looking to retrofit parts which are notoriously unavailable for store branded reels.
  12. I don’t believe there is any direct correlation between size and power within a model. For example the shimano E50 and E200 had identical internals.
  13. Best bet is to measure ID OD Width with calipers and order aftermarket bearings. You’ll get better grade bearing’s for less $.
  14. Just fyi seat orientation (up locking VS down locking) has nothing to do with seat loosening. Don’t restrict your choices based on that.
  15. You can order parts direct from Daiwa by calling them.
  16. Where’s that ole patriarchy everyone’s crying about? Lol
  17. If it will open, pop open the palm side cover to take tension add the spool and cap. If the cap is cranked down the side plate might be hard to open.
  18. Throwaway is probably a little harsh. They’re a good value budget reel, but they need to stay in their lane. This is a sorry attempt at innovation better left to established brands. Imo
  19. I just check my calendar to see if was April 1st again
  20. I’m considering charging double for pinion gear replacement on these… just ‘cuz. Lol
  21. Any competent rod builder can match the guide and wrap for an effective repair. Shipping is often a deal breaker depending on the value of the rod and estimate for repair. Replacing a single guide is a $10 plus guide job give or take.
  22. I’ll be glad to help you troubleshoot and/or correct the issue but you’re getting good feedback here already. Slipping braid is 99% of drag issues. A free spinning handle means absolutely nothing. Don’t sweat that.
  23. There’s not enough packaging in the world to counteract the freight is handled. Any business that ships rods knows there will be a level of loss that needs to factored in. If they don’t they won’t be around long.
