  1. If you’re one that locks a drag down (which I advise against) not a bad idea to back it off when not in use and definitely over the off-season. At normal recommended settings it should be fine.
  2. If there’s no noise in free spool, the spool and brakes can be ruled out. It’s impossible to diagnose sight unseen. Is the noise at a certain point in the handle revolution or line guide travel? Is it more, less or the same under load? If the symptoms came on suddenly something is not right. Ignoring it may cause more damage needlessly. 6 yrs is way over due for service. $40 in 6yrs for service and shipping is $7/yr. worthwhile on a $200 investment I’d think. Let me know if I can help you.
  3. Football shaped guides are technically imperfect but far from a defect. Excess epoxy does affect a blank to a degree but the difference balance point is likely due to a combination of factors and variance in blank construction, grip location, seat arbors etc. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see difference between visually identical rods. Balance point is way over emphasized anyway.
  4. Ya I know. This guy is particular. He has a bunch and likes them wants more of the same. Maybe not. If you want to pm me the contact I’ll pass it along.
  5. Preferably new but nice second hand would be considered.
  6. I’m looking for some new Calais DC reels for a customer. I found some retailers in a google search but don’t have experience with any of them. If anyone here sees some from a trusted source I appreciate a heads up. Thanks
  7. Your price point is full of quality reels. It’s really a matter of features you prefer and any current deals. Do you have any under consideration?
  8. Retail wise, probably a Curado 201 E7 on clearance for $98 at Gander Mtn. Second hand, I got 3 Scorpion 1001s from a Buddy. He begs to buy them back but I ain’t havin’ it. Lol
  9. The Lews and Revos are built in the same factories and share parts and tooling. You won’t see any big difference between their comparable models. I never cared for the mag only brake system but their centrifugal and dual brake reels cast fine.
  10. Which Worksharp do you have? You use it for anything else?
  11. There are much more effective ways to control drop speed than with line weight or composition. Whatever difference there is, it’s minutiae. Some people feel that slack line sensitivity is better with Fluorocarbon. Maybe, but I’m a line watcher and don’t see a problem.
  12. Ditto on the guide feet. Especially the really thick ones like stripper guides and the little recoil guides. Their feet are too wide and split if ground too short.
  13. Neither will a President is maintained. The felt drag must be greased to repel moisture and prevent swelling. Better yet install a carbon drag.
  14. Factory defect or shipping damage will become apparent within the first few used and good load applied. M
  15. Not a carbon drag. A felt washer is a “wet” drag and needs grease.
  16. No reason to grease a carbon drag on a bass reel. The main advantage of grease is heat dissipation which isn’t an issue with fish that don’t make extended hard runs. The felt will wear out eventually and can be the cause of binding if they get wet. That’s why felt needs to be greased.
  17. Grease can gum up the tiny plastic springs in the AR and render it intermittently inoperable. Especially in cold weather or dusty conditions. Roller clutches should be flushed and lubricated with a swab of light oil.
  18. Grip material is largely an aesthetic decision imo. Palming a casting reel or holding a spinner at the seat so little of the hand contacts the grip, material and feel is of little consequence.
  19. Never put grease on an AR clutch. The Fuego is a workhorse reel and isn’t going to be whisper quiet or silent
  20. A 5:1 reel has a useful mechanical advantage for deep cranking and high resistance lures. Outside of that it’s totally personal preference. Neither of the choices you posted are limiting or adding what you can do with it. Go with your gut.
  21. I was thinking generically but in my case a Tracker Heritage. So far all I’ve done is move the sonar to the bow and add one with mapping.
  22. Alright, so I’m just now learning to read electronics effectively and like every kid the more I play with a toy the more curious I get about other toys. With SI, DI, Livescope, 360, spot lock, power poles etc I could spend more than what my boat cost. I’m curious on peoples thoughts on the advantages cost effectiveness of these technologies. I don’t want to start a peeing match over who can catch without any of this etc just something I thought would make fun conversation.
  23. The answer depends on what you like for a jerkbait rod. In my case it’s a medium power, fast action with a soft tip. It throws light square bills, drop shot and shaky heads.
