  1. I still service them regularly. Perfectly fishable reels
  2. I don’t give blank spine any consideration at all. It’s an irrelevant anomaly of blank manufacturing. If anything, building on the spine makes the rod least powerful deadlift wise.
  3. Nothing to be gained by cementing the pieces together.
  4. No but as kids we walked the canal banks in the winter after the locks were opened. Picked up all kinds of lost tackle from previously submerged rocks, wood trees etc.
  5. I don’t think it’s fair to blame braid for your lack of luck with those baits. There are valid arguments for all kinds of line applications. It’s one piece of the puzzle though. Don’t get too hung up. I like braid for line handling, sensitivity and hook setting. Visibility or lack there of is a non issue in my experience.
  6. Your reasoning is sound and I see the logic in your preference. I knew this would be the case and wanted the rest to hear it. Thanks!
  7. As long as the line is coming off the bottom of the spool for spinning and the top for casting reels it will work fine. I have fewer problems spooling off the bottom of the filler than off the floor etc.
  8. What do you find to be the advantage of the mid fast action?
  9. I like a mh fast to drive the heavy hook home. A mod fast will work if stiff enough but the fast is no disadvantage. “Pulling the bait away from the fish” is a myth imo. If you’re getting short strikes something else is wrong.
  10. Either way will work equally well. I usually only use about 70 yds of braid on top but since you had a full spool already I threw out the tape option.
  11. I suggest a cranking rod unless your specific waters indicate otherwise. Frog fishing is fun for sure but it’s a bid gamble in a tx situation imo.
  12. You’ve been lucky. That is 100% the problem. Reel the braid onto another reel then put a strip of electrical tape around the spool then re-spool.
  13. Do you have braid spooled on? If so did you use backing? This accounts for 99.9% of slipping drag complaints.
  14. Contact me off line via email and I’ll help you out.
  15. Someone has likely had the reel apart or the dial is broken.
  16. Again, the terms are subjective so different labels may in fact be seen similar. In use it’s a matter of fine tuning and not a dealbreaker either way in most cases. You need to go with your gut and let on the water performance decide.
  17. How long a handle or spool spins means next to nothing. If the reel functions properly during regular fishing motions it’s fine.
  18. The one I have here sits at about 45* when snug. I think you can rotate it 180 by removing 2 screws in the inside.
  19. I’d check the rotor friction ring, felt drag washers, oscillator gear in that order.
  20. I don't think gears are your problem.
  21. What are "powerful parts "? any metal framed reel with a good drag should work fine.
  22. The E5 is a 5.3:1 cranking reel for starters. The E reels went on clearance for $99 at one point. They have a cult following though and do have some value. Technology wise they're perfectly good reels. I'd consider $50-$75 fair depending on condition. Check eBay for completed sales to see what others paid.
  23. The changes I'm working on are on hold. In the meantime I can take reel service orders. Please check our website for updated pricing. Specials and discounts are unavailable during the spring rush. If you need a deadline for a trip or tx contact me for an appointment. Thanks much.
