Bass Junkie

I have tried buzzfrogs, ribbits, sizmics, hardnose, and mad tommy toads, and outta all of 'em, I LOVE the ribbit. The only one that comes close is the mad tommy. As for riggin', I use the ribbit screw-lock hook with a 1/0 trailer hook slid on the big hooks shank. I am gonna try ragetails tommorow, so I might have to change my opinion.

Why can't you use an appropriatly colored spinnerbait skirt slipped through both leg holes?

x2. It could be one of any number of brands, aka: generic. X3. Deff. a twin tail grub. I would look at BPS, Chompers, or Zoom for those.

Sorry to hear 'bout that :-/ While I'm not sure about the jig question, I know BPS makes tungsten spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, and both BPS and Cabelas market Ultra-Steel sinkers such as egg and splitshot weights. Also, you could check into brass weights for t-rigs. Hope this helps!!!

Why upgrade my line? I've held bass in lilly pad fields for 2-3 minutes while we rowed the boat to the fish because the pads and hydrilla were to much for the motor. I've als pulled THICK swimbait hooks out. 30lb. is plenty strong for me.........

Just outta curiosity, how would ya'll fish these?? I'm thinkin' straight slow retrieve. Would that work??? I've fished Ribbits, Buzzfrogs, and Tommy Toads( or whatever those things are called) like this and done well. Is there a different retrieve that would work better for basss in clear water??? I like throwin' buzz frogs along lilly pads and twitching 'em on top of the lilly pads then buzzin' 'em off. Does this sound o-k??

I can't really afford an expensive froggin' rod now, so I'm gonna have to live with the medium. I will consentrate on waiting a little longer to set the hook, and will reel up 'till I feel the fish. Hope this works. Thanks for the help!!!!

Normally the same here, unless I'm burning a spinnerbait. In clearer water I prefer a swimbait. But as for colors, Shad or white......

I just picked up my first package of Rage Tails. I got the Toads in the watermelon/pearl. I was very impressed with the weight of the baits, the fact they come in a clam pack, the bait saver tabs, and I liked the scent. I wasn't to happy 'bout the price, but I will have to see what they do. Most toads are a bit more expensive than othe baits. I also liked the fact that the toads came with riggin' instructions. Can't wait to hit the lake!!!!

For the Razor worms you'll need to buy some 1/0 wide gap worm hooks, and 1/8 oz bullet weights. These are easily found in the sporting goods section of your local Wally World. Texas righttp://www.bassresource.com/beginner/Texas_Rig.html the worm with 1 bullet sinker and cats this near any cover and slowly twitch and move it along the bottom. The strike will feel like a light TAP-Tap most of the time, but if your line moves, your worm feels weightless, like its no longer tied onto the end of your line, or you feel a heavy weight, set the hook hard. For the jogger worms, texas rig them without a sinker and cast them near any likely cover, let it fall the whole way to the bottom, the let it set for 5 seconds, then move the bait. If you feel any resistance, set the hook. If at any time during when the baits falling your line moves, twitches, jumps, starts going of to the side or stops before you think it should've hit the bottom, SET THE HOOK!!!! Hope this helps.

I've tried scents inside the body cavity, but never a wax scent. I'll look into that.

I'd like to stick with the frog I'm usin', no offense. Thw water I fish is rather varied in cover, or lack thereof, and I usually try to throw it onto the bank and hop it off. I LOVE seenin' that wake come out from the bank, maybe a bulge behind the froggy, then WHAM.

Ahhh.........My weak point. I have problems thinkin' the bass will detect the fact that hes just grabbed a hunk of rubber instead of froggy, especially in the open water situations when they don't have to sort the main course out from the salad. Is this a legit worry??? What can I do to prevent this???

Yeah, its like FISHERMAN1: BITE!!!!! FISHERMAN2: DUCK!!!!! LOL. I have fished buzz frogs on a 7ft ML so I figured a Medium would be fine for these frogs. I'm pretty positive I can bury the barb with that thing (the medium) when I rip drag on the hookset with the drag as tight as I have it. I guess maybe I'm just tryin' to avoid another rod, but I think Maybe I'm not waitin' long enough. I don't know.

I just pulled out one of my frogs, a Spro Bronzeye Jr. and started throwin' it again. I got several BIG bites and had three hooked up. None came to the boat. This is the same problem I've had throwin' them before. I am doing better, as I'm gettin' hooks into the fish, but I'm losin' some HOGS!!!! I am flippin' out! I have never hooked and landed a bass on these frogs. I even set the hook three times on one of the bass, ripping drag each time. WHAT am I DOING!!!!!!!!!! I'm using a 6'6" Medium action baitcasting rod with 30lb Spider Wire. I have tried "Breakin' in the body" and all that stuff. No dice. How long should I wait? I'm waiting maybe 1-1 1/2 seconds before I set the hook. The stikes are comin' on the frog while I'm walkin' it after hopping it off the bank or outta a bush. I can't afford an equipment upgrade, though I don't think I'll need one 'cause most of my froggin' is in open water, and I'm usually within 20ft. of the fish when it strikes, never over 40ft. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

What's he know? He's a good fisherman and a fine christian man. He does have his quirks, like his " GOO" expression on a good strike, or his love for bronzebacks(J/K), but he is a great man, IMHO. As for the quote, it makes sense. Some days they'll bight anything, other days they need green pumpkin or craw orange swirl.
