I use ZOOM, Netbait, and some Rage Tail products. Color consistency between different bags of the same color is better with the Netbait and ZOOM in my experience.

Patience. I am extremely patient when fishing and will disect a single small brush pile for over an hour with no bite or indication that fish are there if I truley believe fish are there.

Just about any worm or creature in green pumpkin, watermelon, junebug, redbug, or black will catch a fish in most bodies of water. Those are my standard colors. A not so standard color I like is bama craw and another is big bite bait's easy money.

It's not the style of fishing, its the style of hook that determines whether or not you use a traditional hookset. If you are using a circle or octopus hook, a bionic ninja hookset is not required, just lift the rod and start reeling. If you are using a straight shank, ewg, offset, etc. hook then a standard, firm, south to north hook set will work fine.

My resolution is actually two-fold. I would like to become more proficient at finding deep fish on my humminbird units, and learning to use spoons to catch them.

That chart. Strand grouping at the end of t he skirt is great, nice touch considering almost all the sunfish down here are green sunfish that exhibit the yellow tipp tail fin.

Here in south east Texas, water temps are still in the mid 60's. There is no reason to slow down unless the fish have lockjaw because of a pressure system or some other external factor. We wont slow down until the water drops another 10 degrees so it's rattletrap,crank,spinner bait time right now for the most part. Jigs and worms get it done as well right now, but they aren't worked with a slow presentation. Each cast of a worm or jig takes about 1-2 minutes to complete which is average for me. A slow presentation may take up to 5 minutes. If your a football fan and listen to the game on the radio while you fish, a good way to go about moving your worm or jig as the water temps drop into the low 50's is to cast and let it sit during the game and move it slightly at the start of the radio commercials. That way your mind doesnt focus on the fact that your lure is just sitting there, and the time is enjoyable and passes quickly. That is unless your a Cowgirls fan.........GO TEXANS!

Spinnerbait or soft plastics in the rain. If the wind is kicking up pretty bad while its raining, Ill throw a heavy spinnerbait and try to keep it a foot or so below the "valley" of the waves on windblown points. If the wind isnt bad, Ill throw soft plastics with the lightest weight possible, or even weightless, directly into brush piles.

I really look at the jig skirt to adress three variables: 1. Action 2. Color 3. Size I left out fall rate because that is something best done by switching to a different jig weight. Trying to determine the fall rate of every jig in my boxes based on the skirt material, length, diameter, etc is nearly impossible and cumbersome. Yes, a larger skirted jig will fall slower than a thin skirted jig, but sink rate is most accurately adjusted by swapping to a different jig weight. If I want a slower or faster fall rate, I swap jigs, not skirts. Action: The amount of action a jig gives can be largely affected by the skirt. Silicon vs hair, round vs flat. If I want a lot of action I prefer silicon, but in colder months I will use hair to minimize the action. Color: The color of the skirt is something that I take a close look at and try to mimick the substrate of the surface I'll be fishing instead of focusing only on the color of the craw. For instance, if I am throwing jigs on a sandy bottom, I'll make sure the the skirt has strands that are as close to the color of the sand as possible. I feel that the sand colored strands moving around while the jig is at rest looks like the creature is trying to dig around in the dirt to hide or make a stand, much like a crawfish might. Also, if I know i am fishing a jig in sporadic grass, I'll have multiple colors of green strands in the trailer to make it look like the creature is moving the grass around him in his defense pose when I have the jig sitting on the bottom. Its something I put a lotof emphasis on but I dont know if it helps much, more of a confidence thing if anything at all I suppose. Size: Skirts obviously can affect the profile size of the lure. Longer, round strands with hair offer a thicker/larger profile (Hippy Jig), while flat strands of a lower count offer a thinner profile. Simply match what size bait you believe the fish to be snacking on.

Pleasantly Surprised: Rapala DT Series cranks. Every single one has run true right out of the box and I have yet to break a single bill which appears to be a common issue on this website according to others. More importantly, I have caught a tremendous amount of keeper bass with them and have had zero issues with them. Dissapointment: Strike King crankbaits. I have yet to have one run true straight out of the box and cant seem to catch a darn thing on any of them other than the 2.5 which has given me decent results. Ive had two get water logged, straight out of the package. VERY dissapointed in their quality control.
