  1. I ended up watching it through a colander. Now my eyes are strained!
  2. Yea. That was 5 years ago and my a$s is still chapped about it.
  3. Covers also keep cigarettes out of the boat. Noone has ever smoked in my boat, yet I have a cigarette burn in the carpet on the rear deck. I can only assume someone tossed it in at a stoplight.
  4. My Bluetop starting battery lasted me 11 seasons. The Bluetop trolling batteries went 12 seasons. Replaced them with Duracell (Deka) AGM 31s. On paper, they looked to be a better option. They have been great so far and I saved a bunch of $$$ over getting Optimas.
  5. I didn't buy the manufacturer's cover. It wouldn't have covered the trolling motor or the outboard. I had a custom one made for less, that covered everything, and it is of better material. The only time I don't tow with the cover on is when I'm on the way back to camp or home and it's not raining.
  6. Before I'd install lights under the fender that will get peppered with road debris, I'd install some tire pressure sensors on the trailer wheels.
  7. I fish my braid for 2 or 3 years, then I strip if off and reinstall it backwards. Fresh line again for a couple years!
  8. I was just going to make this post. Seems people are looking for a good replacement program, not a warranty.
  9. I've repaired enough Wild Blacks to know there are still issues with the product.
  10. id be more concerned with the blank than the guide. It takes considerable force to bend one of the K runners. They're pretty stout and nothing like the flimsy L running guides.
  11. Probably the best place for the batteries is midship. I installed an accessory battery in the back of my boat once to run the graphs. My boat ran like a$s with the extra weight back there. Lost 4mph on the top end and had waves knock me off plane occasionally. I moved it up to the battery compartment in the middle of the boat and all was good again.
  12. one of my concerns would be the ability of the livewell to support two batteries. Is it a plastic tub type liner or is at an aluminum box? If it's the metal box, I wouldn't worry about it. If it's the plastic, I doubt there's enough support beneath it to keep the batteries from going through it in time.
  13. The Yamaha SUV that Jetski Brian runs on Chesapeake has had me considering getting a fishing ski! Solo trips for smallies on Erie are what I have in mind. Using it in conditions I wouldn't want to take my boat out in. The biggunz bite when the lake is angry! The problem with getting one is I would need two. The wife would have to have a fishin' machine too!
  14. With only 6'6", you can't even get your truck through without trespassing. Just about any 17-20' boat you look at will be almost 8' wide fender to fender. There are lots of reasons to walk away from that one. I'd keep looking any buy one that's in working condition for $5000. I think you'll be better off.
  15. That's about all the longer a rod warranty should be, if even that long. 5 year, 15 year, lifetime....it's out of hand. If a rod doesn't blow up in the first one or two outings, there's not gonna be any issues with it. Beyond that, it is operator error. Maybe you hit it with a lure, whacked it off the side of the boat or damaged it in some way that will show up on the next cast or next year. People think a lifetime warranty means it's indestructible and when it breaks, regardless of circumstance, they are owed a new rod. Seems the manufacturers are getting wide to this and shortening their warranties.
  16. I don't think it's the visibility, it's the stiffness of the line. Light line does not impede the action of the bait the way heavier line does.
  17. I fished the Yough with it. Don't know if you should jump on it or not. I can tell you this: that run you made with the 6hp jon, you'll be coming back on fumes with the 12 gallon tank in the SLT750. Most likely, you'll have to flip the fuel switch to reserve. The potential problems I see: getting the boat registered if you are salvaging it. Without a title transfer, i believe you'll have to go through the paperwork and register it as homemade.
  18. I tie on a 18' leader to start the day. The knot is on the reel and ticks through the guides on every cast. No damage to the guides that I can find.
  19. I have had 4 Polaris jet-skis: a '95 SLT750, '98 SLX (1050cc), '00 Virage TX (1165cc) and '00 SLX (1165cc). While somewhat stable, Polaris skis are smaller than other manufacturers. Their 2 seater is more line a 1 seater and their 3 seater is like a 2. The ones I've seen converted to fishing skis have been the Yamaha SUV. It is a GIANT 4 seater. I used to fish off of the 750. I'd toss some lures in the glove box and hold a rod across the handle bars when running to spots. The SLT750 is actually a 3 seater.
  20. Don't know the situation, but here's a little experiment I did a few years ago. I fished 2 identical setups on Erie, one with straight braid and one with braid and a 6# floro leader. The only bites I got were on the rod with leader.
  21. I believe you are correct. I have a set of limited run gold ringed microwaves and I believe they are titanium alloy frame, but not the entire set.
  22. retail pricing on Microwave spinning sets. Black or Chrome: Duralite rings: $33.45 Nanolite rings: $43.19 Gunsmoke: Duralite rings: $37.34 Nanolite rings: $47.93 Titanium: Duralite rings: $48.20 Nanolite rings: $57.93 Airwave: Chrome: $10.78 Black: $15.75 Not sure what Fuji guide they're pricing, so an upgrade to Titanium Microwaves may warrant a $40 upcharge.
  23. While they're good guides and do work as advertised, they're actually cheaper than the Fuji Alconites I usually use. No reason for the upcharge unless they're the titanium framed ones.
  24. After using the cam lock style straps that came with my boat for 12 years, I broke down and got a set. They are the Boat Buckle but rebranded for Overtons. Don't know why I waited so long. I love them.
  25. From the AAA site: "Enhance your AAA Plus or AAA Premier benefits by adding RV coverage. RV provides up to 100 driving miles of towing for motor homes, pickup trucks with campers, travel trailers (including fifth wheel), motorcycles, camping trailers, snowmobile trailers, and boat trailers."
