Luring walleyes! (no livebait)
A couple days ago, my fishing partner and i were going to head up the the river for walleyes. We loaded everything up and went to the baitshop for minnows. They were closed. We also went to the small engine shop that sells some fishing stuff, including live bait. They were also closed. We went to the hardware store, they were all out. Anyways, we had no minnows and a perfectly good 20 degree snowy windy day to fish. So we went to the river under the dam, where it is almost slack water. We have never caught walleyes on artificials before and were half heartily throwing some plastics. I was using a 4" curl tail grub in black/purple. Anyways, on about my 5th cast, i got a snag and started pulling. I could move it towards me and figured i snagged some old line on the bottom of the river. I was pulling really hard, and a couple of rod pumps in, the snag moved. It came to life. I was shaking because i was using a medium heavy 7' rod and i could bareley move this thing. It came out to be a walleye, that i estimated close to 10 lbs, maybe a little less. The thing is, as i was about 3 net lenghts from shore, it broke my 6 lb. line!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! For those of you who havent seen it, a 10 lb walleye is a truly majestic sight. Within around 1 hour, me and my buddy hooked and lost (since we couldnt feel a thing, we were frozen!) about a dozen more fish, mostly walleyes. I caught one keeper and he caught a freshwater drum. After a while the bite stopped. Anyways, i learned that plastics can perform drastically better than minnows. There were 3 other people using minnows not 10 yards in each direction, and none of them had a bite. Im heading out next weekend with a box full of grubs and jigheads!

What do you consider a large Crappie
The biggest i ever caught was 15" on a medium sized husky jerk, with about 2/4 of the lake still frozen. Only the shorelines were fishable. Anyways, in michigan, 14-15 inches is pretty big. I dont think i ever caught one uner 10 inches ever, because i always accidently catch them on bass lures.

My dream car...
cant type too well in the dark. I meant 17 seconds..... but that is completley stock, and ive seen videos where they can get into the high 11's and low 12's in a 1/4.

My dream car...
Look this one up, the new jeep grand cherokee SRT8. It is stock with about 450 hp. And goes insanley fast. I mean fast. I mean about 0-100 in about 7 seconds fast. Really. And only $45,000! ;D

What technique or bait should you use...but dont ?
um, lets see....... dropshot, c-rig, jigs, crankbaits, jerkbaits, topwaters, jiging spoons, ratltraps, t-rigged worms, and probably trick worms. Every time out ill try something for a minute or two and its back to senkos, tubes, shakey heads, and sometimes spinnerbaits. But i did gain some confidence in cranks, caught some on a fat rap......

How to shorefish rivers
Will a drifting lure like an in-line spinner, spoon, curly tail, etc. still have action on the drift? I mean, will the twister tail still twist when its flowing with the water?

How to shorefish rivers
Well the river i am fishing is about 200+ yards wide, and ill be fishing around 6-7 ft. deep, give or take a few feet. The current is fast enough to drift a 3/4 oz. weight naturally in some spots, but generally 3/8-1/2 oz will tick along the bottom pretty good. I a more concerned about retrieve (mainly jigs), do i just drift it, do i jig it, or do i swim it, etc.

How to shorefish rivers
I need help. I have fished in a boat on a river with some success, and i have dift fished for steelhead and salmon with success. Also, there is a large area of slack water underneath our dam wich i fish in for spawning smallies. But how do i fish in the current from shore?

Bass-Mounting?
in my opinion, most skin mounts look much better, more realistic, and are always cheaper. If you go to the wrong place, you could end up with a fiberglass mount that could be shaped weird, and an odd paint job. I prefer the looks of a good skin mount. It looks just like a fish, even the best fiberglass mounts look fake to me. And by the way, a skin mount will not rot if it is taken care of. My neighbor's is 10 years old, looks brand new, still shiny and everything. You just have to wipe them down with a towel to keep the dust off, and keep them fairly dry.

bigger bass or more bass?
Depends who im with. With my dad, its a numbers game. I always do something to outfish him, usually by downsizing and whatnot, If its my fishing buddy, i have got to catch the biggest and the most. If im by myself, usually im after size not numbers as much. Its strange that i always catch the most and the biggest fish when im by myself. I tell my fishing buddy and he comes with me the next time and i cant get much of a bite. Btw, my last 3 pbs have been caught when i was by myself.

Catfish Whiskers
You dont really want to lip the fish, moreso grasp the bottom jaw with your hand. The bites arent really that strong if you have all of your fingers in there. It might hurt if its just your thumb. Ive done it to cats up to 10 lbs.

river fish (steelies and walleyes)
There are a few muskies here, but i never heard of anybody catching one. I just know that the stock them downstate. Anyways, jigging lures, are kind of tough to use fishing from shore and in relativeley fast current in a 7-10ft. deep section of river. I have had good luck using floating rapalas on the salmon. I cast them, let them drift, and hold them in the current, the fish were killing them! But people from all over the COUNTRY come to this river. World renown steelhead fishing. The steelhead dont seem to like coming to the surface like the salmon do

Is steelhead a nickname for a large rainbow
liquidsoap- i dont know where your from, but the steelies and salmon in my river taste almost identical, if not indestinguishable. They are both delicious! Our problem isnt the people fishing for meat, it the people fishing for eggs. Thats pretty much the only reason a majority of the people here fish for. Get more eggs, and catch more fish. Thats fine, but some throw out the meat and everything.

11/19/06--One 3 lber and three 2 lbers
couldnt help but notice the size of your weight on that swim senko. Do you always use fairly heavy weights, or do you think its necessary to give the lure its action?

river fish (steelies and walleyes)
do you guys have any suggestions on how to fish lures in big (fairly fast) rivers for these things? Keep in mind im shore fishing. All i have been using are baits that i can drift. (wobble glows, spawn, jig and minnow) These are okay, but i was thinking about other baits, especially for walleyes. I know somebody who caught a 12 and 14 lb. walleye in this river, both on wobble glows. They are in there, i need help catching them..

Is steelhead a nickname for a large rainbow
I just landed a fresh steelhead today! It was my biggest yet, 27 inches, which isnt giant, but it sure fought like a MONSTER on 6lb test and an ul 9' rod. Took me close to 10 minutes to land it. Later in the season, these fish can be tamed really easily, but now they are completley wild!!!

Should i?
There is this one lake i love to fish, mainly, because i catch fish there. I have gone several times with other people in their bass boats. Now im curious, should i try to take my 12' aluminum boat out there, it only has a trolling motor, and a pair of oars. The lake is 528 acres. There is an insane amount of boat traffic in the summer. Right now, i dont think too many people are out on it. Does it sound safe, or logical?

Songs that bump
I am looking into getting some subwoofers for my car, and would like some songs that just plain out have bass. (i dont mean bass guitar lines) Anything, rap, hip hop, techno, etc. This is stuff i do not normally listen to, pretty much never. I just want something that people can hear from a mile away. There is some song i heard called "gone in 60 seconds, ultimate bass, subwoofer test" or something like that. Pretty bass heavy techno song. Any other suggesstions?

Is steelhead a nickname for a large rainbow
Yea, and right now is prime time to catch one! Every time i go steelheading, i get a nice big female and usually lose it about 5' from shore after a strenuous battle (and these things fight) due to several reasons. Including a broken hook, opened split ring, improper rod, bad person at the net, etc.
