  1. have you ever caught a picture worthy fish and your fishing alone? what do you do?
  2. with the droughts taking a toll on lakes that gives the shore a chance to grow some weeds, brush and anything else so when the water does come back up all the structure is there. but i still dont hear of early day catches when those conditions exist. another thing i have noticed. when I used to live in southern california there were a few lakes that had been around for years but were not open to the public. then after they were open up, 50 to 100 a day catches were the norm. after a few years of this it started dropping off considerably. these are mandatory catch and release.
  3. alot of the lakes around here were built in the early 70's. per alot of my co workers that fished those lakes at that time catching big bass was much easier than it is today on the same lake. in fact on one of my trips to Toledo Bend I had to go to a repair shop on the Lousiana side and the man that owns the shop has a stringer of bass he caught in the early 70's of 10 bass for a total weihgt of 108 pounds! and two other stringers with similiar days on the water. can you imagine a day like that today???? with all the catch and release and modern know how why is that kind of fishing a thing of the past?? i find it hard to beleive that a lake that big gets so much pressure that the fish have learned anything from it.
  4. I hate when the TV cameraman shows the mug shot while fishing. What good is looking at someones face? I would rather see what kind of cover the are throwing to, especially when using crankbaits since alot of what I read says not to worry about losing lures. Well I want to see it for myself.
  5. i feel by far most of my bites come from reaction instead of feeding. since bass only feed for a short period of time how much time do you spend looking for baitfish? for example if the winds pick up in the afternoon why fish on the downwind side where the baitfish are if the bass are not even in a feeding mode???
  6. I feel that any job that is in the spotlight you are a role model. Just because someone is only in the job for the money doesnt exempt them from being a role model. Nobody has a role model job for anything other than to provide for there family so why are fishermen any different. Some kids come from broken families and the family members around them are riff raffs. So those kids tend to look at people in the spotlight. I like what the Yankee organization does with its team members and that is that all Yankees will have a clean cut image. No long hair, beards, earings, tattos, etc. I would expect the same from professional fishermen. If you cant follow these rules then your not welcome. Being in the spotlight means part of the job is conducting yourself above and beyond.
  7. WOW low budget your hardcore to leave the country permanently and have to learn a new lifestyle.
  8. if you were retired and money was no issue, what lake would you retire on? or if you wanted to live in the middle of a few different lakes. And if you think you might get tired of fishing 5 days a week and like to hunt also take that into consideration. myself i would pick sam rayburn. however I do like to hunt quail and quail are too far from rayburn so i havent found the perfect spot yet
  9. what do you use to keep your hands functioning while you fish the cold waters? where did you buy it?
  10. how many of you study a map, pick out your spots, dial in the gps and go directly to those spots vs waiting until you get to the lake and look for visual structure while you run the boat and hit those spots.
  11. i could see from your house you were more than likely from so. calif. i left orange county for texas last year and the one lake i miss more than anything is Naciemento in central calif. You will definitely want to take your new boat there for a week in April before the summer hits.
  12. when do you find rip rocks productive and not productive. it would make sense when the bass are looking for warmer areas in the early spawn that the rip rap would warm up first attracting fish. but after that cycle are the rip rap productive for you? what lures and presentations do you use??
  13. here is my guide high- hot dry minimal clouds rising- been raining, lots of clouds and starting to clear falling- storm moving in looks like rain low-cloudy and rain for a sustained period of time
  14. this morning i posted a topic explaning the conditions of the lake and weather and asked what i did wrong . i got 2 replies and next thing i know it was deleted with no explanation. i followed the rules on FAQ
  15. do any of you have a problem in boat positioning and blowing fuses while using the trolling motor to fish downwind? i like to fish near the bank in this situation so its difficult not to let the wind blow the boat into the bank unless my foot is on the trolling motor constantly
  16. another way to look at it is a lake that gets pounded with a tournement or a popular lake that gets pounded every weekend. its been my experience that by thursday the following week things have calmed down
  17. i like to cast a spinnerbait past the target, reel in and intentionally let the spinner bump the timber( the more commotion the better) then as you reel on thru let the spinner fall along the timber. if the spinner bait starts to hang up, keep cranking hard to break it thru. dont stop cranking
  18. This topic has been moved to [link=http://bassresource.com/cgi-bin/bass_fish/YaBB.pl?board=Fishing_Tackle_ID;action=display;num=1126909583;start=0]Fishing Tackle[/link] by Glenn.
  19. and what about spinnerbaits and crankbaites for colors
  20. Conroe will be my home lake. I like to spend a week during the spawn at a lake I dont normally go to and went to Toledo Bend in March. I will try Rayburn next March and see which of those two I like more to continue going to for a week. I wasnt impressed with the camping at Holly Park at Toledo Bend
  21. as far as working the c rig lure in deep water, how many of you let the wind drift the boat as you drag it or if there is no wind let tthe lowest setting on the trolling motor drag the c rig ?
  22. these colors seem to be for both clear water and low visibility water. thats telling me that there is no diference in visibility for color selection as long as you choose what i would consider a color for clear water only. sounds kind of strange???
  23. i just relocated from the deep clear lakes of california to the shallow murky waters of southeast texas. visibility here is less than 2 feet most of the time so to me using bright colors like charteuse, white, or bright orange would be the way to go. but I hear over and over about using black, purple, watermelon, colors that wouldnt seem to stand out in low visibility. what am i missing here?
  24. i have the tempest plus. i guess i dont understand how the plugs can actually change the rpm of the motor . i have 3 plugs in with the center opening of each plug about the size of a dime. the dealer tells me there is a small, medium and large size plug but didnt know what size the dime size is
  25. anybody have a tempest prop on there mercury optimax? my rpm for my hole shot goes to 1500 rpm and hesitates there for a second or 2 and then jumps to 3500 rpm all during full throttle. this is a new motor and was told to play with the plugs on the hub of the prop to eliminate this. any feedback
