outboard maintenance schedule
i have an 05 optimax that requires maintenance every 100 hours or yearly whatever comes first. i put about 50 hours a year on mine. as long as my motor doesnt sit for extended periods of time, why cant i wait another year until i hit the 100 hour mark? i dont recall a maintenace schedule for cars telling you to perform maintenance other than when you hit a certain milege. so as long as the equipment is used regularly and not sitting why is an outboard schedule any different. i am looking for something other than it might void the warranty, thanks

casting from the shore out in a boat
my concern is spooking the fish when getting my boat in postion in 2 feet of water to cast outward. and i am using a carolina rig so i dont want to keep the trolling motor on steady the whole time. do you move into shore say 100 feet down from the area you want to fish and then use a pole to maneuver the boat around in 2 feet of water instead of bumping the trolling motor?

how well do you know your home lake?
it looks like i am asking the wrong question. if most of you are fishing 3 to 6 days a week i should be asking you what kind of work are you in. i know not everybody is retired on the forum. so tell me is it the maid or the butler that cleans the boat when you get back?

how well do you know your home lake?
how many of you can consistantly catch fish on several different types of lures from pre spawn thru fall on your home lake? how big is your lake and how long/often have you been fishing it? how long did it take you to learn your lake to the point you can catch fish consistantly? My home lake is Lake Conroe in Texas which is 21,000 surface acres. I have been fishing it once a week for a year now. Its a lot different to what I used to fish in Calif. I feel after one year I am just now getting a feel for the lake but my sucess is still spotty.

advice for a beginning basser
what advice would you give to someone who is considering starting bass fishing. what i would say is that it is a lot like learning to play golf. if you go out for the day more than likely you are just going to get frustrated by your performance. in order to overcome that frustration you have to be willing to read, read, read and practice, practice, practice in between your outings. if you dont think about how to improve until your next outing your just going to get frustrated all over again and lose interest. and it is never ending on learning. a golfer that sets a goal to hit consistant in the low 80 s will set another goal when they reach the low 80 s. same with bass.

Carolina vs Texas

looking for structure with waypoints
i have a 3 year old magellan sport trak that has the coord. system as followed for lat and lon deg/min.mm deg/min.mmm this is the one that i have been using for a primary and secondary deg/min/sec and deg.ddddd where should i be set at and why would someone want a less accurate coordinate to begin with??

looking for structure with waypoints
i have some waypoints that have marked some structure in appox 10 to 12 feet of water. typically when i reach my waypoint destination i spend considerable time trying to locate the structure with my depthfinder. these waypoints were from someone else and for the most part eventually i find it. what i want to know is first does all the commotion of running a trolling motor on low speed and the sonar spook the fish in 10 feet of water when i am going round and round looking for the structure? second would it be better to just work the area thouroughly with lures instead of first trying to locate a specific brushpile or whatever on the depthmeter? any inputs?

have you thought of downsizing?
anyone with a fiberglass bass boat and been fishing large bodies of water ever thought of just going back to ponds?? i have a couple of 100 acre ponds near me that looks alot better than dealing with all the tournaments and pleasure boaters on the large lakes. i am thinking of a jon boat or maybe even a kayak and getting rid of the fiberglass boat

PLEASE HELP!! Boat wont plane
if i were you since you dont have experinece with bass boats is i would have an experienced bass boat owner go out with you and run the boat. its hard to believe you have that many problems. some of it might just be operator error. so get an experienced second opinion so you know what is really a problem

do you prefer to fish alone?
sounds like we are all in the same boat. so what do you tell people who keep asking you to bring them along??? do you tell them the truth or something else
-
do you prefer to fish alone?
i fish alone for 2 reasons. one is i have my style of fishing that i like to do and someone else will have there own style. i.e. i want to finese fish and he wants to cover a lot of water with search lures. two if the person is just an occasional fisherman, and expecting me to put him into lots of fish, i dont like that kind of expectation so i dont bring them along. am i selfish or are others similiar?
