i think the bass are moving deeper with the summer patterns kicking in and your focusing on one thing instead of trying to find a new pattern

seems like most people like a medium heavy rod for weightless soft plastics for the backbone. dont you feel they are too stiff for that application. i do a lot more casting than hooksetting so i like the medium power myself

after fishing southern cali lakes for years here is my opinion. all southern cali lakes are small and during spawn the experinced local fishermen will have pretty much gone over the lake in a couple of hours. so there is tremendous fishing pressure looking for big bass. these lakes are also very deep so looking for lunkers in summer in 40-60 foot water isnt very easy. most avid fishermen in southern cal are still dreaming of there double digit bass.

i use mostly st. croix and need another rod. did a little research on kistler and i was shocked to see they are located 2miles down the street from me in Texas. How convienent. i can get a hands on feel for anything before i buy and any issues should be taken care of immediately in the future. is that along with kistler reputation enough to pass on another st. croix?

there is an interseting thread going on about how fishermen have been shot at while fishing texas lakes. many fishermen are responding by carrying a gun with them when they fish. is this only in texas??? where else??

i find that the fishing picks up just prior to rain but not necessarily during the rain. especially if the water turns muddy. what could really burst your bubble is did the other fishermen on the lake claim to have a great day!

i guess i must have lived in a poor middle class area. if guides today are making 300 a day, generally speaking that is roughly 2 days salary for a blue collar worker. so assuming in the 70s hiring a guide for a day was 2 days salary for a blue collar worker and he is maybe the only income worker at that time i am very surprised they had that kind of money to burn back then.
