Follow-Up: How Many Lures Do You "USE?"
that just about sums me up. i used to fish (1) culprit worm (2) bush hog spinner bait (3) bang 0 lure (4) very seldom - crankbait ...and, That was IT! now, i have 6 - 10 rods on the deck & i'll usually cast every one of them during the day ..sometimes even tie on other baits. ...but, you know what? i probably caught just as many when i fished 3 or 4 things exclusively.... go figure......

What Fluorocarbon???
i've got Lots of yo-zuri ..and, it's pretty good. i have changed, however, back to P Line fluoroclear 10 lb on a couple of my chronarch 50mg's. it just seems to be more sensitive, has less memory, & let's you cast a bait Much further than any other i've tried.

Abu Garcia has a posse...
i fish nothing but high end shimano reels now. ...because i'm old, i can afford it & i enjoy using them. for over 25 years, however, i fished abu reels. after i got my first 4600, it was the only kind of reel i wanted. i'm looking at thousands of dollars worth of shimano reels as i type this. BUT, there will always be a special place in my heart for abu garcia reels. ronnie

rod wrapping a "push pole"
hey guys, i found a new use for my rod wrapping "skills" (& i use the word sparingly ) i'm getting a boat fixed for the flats at santee cooper. one of the things that i knew i would need was a push pole. ...but, when i priced those little darlings, i Knew there was something around here that would be cheaper. i had some curtain rods left over from re-modeling. two of them were about 12 foot long & almost 1" in diameter. soooo, i took some nylon carpenter's string & wrapped some hand holds & some places along the length to strengthen it & to give it better grip. i don't see why it won't work..& if it does, it'll save a couple hundred bucks.... don't have my camera in the shop this morning, but, will try to post a pic later. ronnie Oooooohhh the things this rod-wrapping leads to ! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee i love it!

epoxy help what went wrong?
tacoman, apparently you were using 5 min epoxy. if you put too much hardner in, it will harden QUICKLY! ..it really needs to be measured Accurately. mix another batch, make sure you have exact amount of epoxy & hardner, & you should have a little longer work time. ...or, just go w/some 20 or 30 minute epoxy. hope this helps ronnie

HO,HO, HO 2007
hey raul, i see all these new reels & tackle, & you live in mexico. i know the 10 pounders are common down there. how about showing us some of these new reels pulling in a 10 pounder with some of that new tackle in his face. now That would make a good pic! LOL ronnie

the new worm rod...
hey guys, GREAT looking rods. ReelMech, you never cease to amaze me. your customers have no idea as to how grateful they should be. ..there are so many people in business today that are just trying to make a buck; not a lot that are trying to produce quality work. flech, my man, we just gotta get you a shop! man, if you had a place to work year 'round, you'd have to trademark your rods! LOL ...Great looking work alps, i Like the way you work different grips, seats, butts, etc. into your blanks. it gives them a very nice Personal look. hey flluke, Pics, man, Pics. Your First Rod.... man, that's neat ...sadly, now you'll be hooked! ...lots of split grip, spiral wrapped, rods in your future. LOL i just finished a st croix 6'6" med last nite. it's drying right now. ...AND, it has "common cork" grips. BAHHHH. i bought a lot of the st croix handles from bingham & i'm using them on "familyl & friends Work" rods. ..kids & grandkids use them, throw them down, etc. so, i'm using the cork on these, burl on my "special" rods. hey, just one little "trick" i found a few weeks ago. when i marbelize the grip, i'll sprinkle a Very Little bit of glitter on them & it really brings out the colors. Build 'em, Boys, Build 'em ronnie

jigfisherman's jigs
just got some of jigfisherman's jigs in today. NICE, did i say NICE> Oh Yeah, i DID! you can really tell he takes his time when he's building & he really pays attention to detail. i've bought LOTS of jigs from various vendors and NONE of them show any better workmanship. if you want jigs built to your specs, the way You want them, give brad a shot. ronnie

Rod builders, I'm ashamed, is there any hope?
rm, i know that's the best way, but, i sure learned a lot w/out having to buy new blanks...PLUS, now i have the rods i want (split grip & spiral wrapped) and not a lot of rods standing in the corner, trying to be sold. i know, i know,..i was fortunate that i didn't break any of mine. ...but, if i had to do it all over, i'd probably do it again. ..acutally, it would have been worth sacrificing one to get 15 good ones. now, just a note - i was at a boat show a year ago & saw some rods that i really admired, started to buy one. ..today, i went back to the annual boat show, saw some of the same kind of rods.....didn't want to buy one, tho! ..after building rods awhile, i think my rods are just as good as any i saw! (please, please, i'm not trying to sound like a braggart or anything, but, honestly, a lot of rack rods, even high end ones, aren't as good as i used to think they were.) ronnie

Rod builders, I'm ashamed, is there any hope?
alps, the last ramp i built, i used rod bond. i dropped a few drops of black paint in it to color it. it went on very easily & smoothly. i dipped my finger in alcohol & smoothed the ramp, let it dry, put a coat of threadmaster on it & Voila, it looked pretty good. ..better than the thread ones i had done. LOL ronnie

Rod builders, I'm ashamed, is there any hope?
Good luck finding them, if you happen to run across someone who still has them and they got a PSB662 please let me know. Tommy river warrior, i bought some blanks from a couple of vendors before they were all out of the "good ones." ..i just glued up a 662 that i'm building for my brother.. a day earlier, i may have considered letting you have it, but this is one of those classic, "day late dollar short" deals. LOL ...but, hey, i bet if you go to the rod building org meeting in feb, you'll be able to find one, and, at a good price. ronnie

hook keepers
hey you rod builders - how many of you still use the old-fashioned hook keepers? i've used some on a few rods, tried them at different places, etc.,etc. sometimes i think i like them, sometimes, i wonder why. i saw the "threadmaster ramp" flechero made on his latest rod & it looked super. a keeper would have messed up the apperance,,,, but, they really do come in handy.. ... hey, we talk about women not being able to make up their minds........ Wheeeeeeeeeeeee ronnie

Florida drop shotting
the highest lb test mono/fluro i use on my spinning reels is 8lb. ....i've been experimenting, however, with the 10lb power pro ..it's the size of 2lb mono, has no memory, no twist, casts a mile. i've even used it for drop-shotting & it works as well, or better, than any other. right now, i've got one of my "always use" reels loaded w/yz 8lb & the other w/power pro 10. ..unless i find a negative soon, i'll soon have all power pro on my spinning reels. ronnie
