  1. Congrats man! Fun when hard work pays off.
  2. Siebert outdoors is fantastic. I buy the lead jigs there unpainted and without the weedguard. This gives me a chance to powder coat them or paint them any way i like. Then i cure them or epoxy them. I have had him make longer hooks with some of the lighter jigs so i can still make them a big looking jig. Additional tweeking: frequently sharpening the hooks; always have at least 3 strands of skirts on them; i will make a 3/8 or 1/2 ounce jig fall real slow by spinning deer hair underneath the skirt so i can cast further in all conditions and still get the slow fall rate; for my green jigs, i will have a fleshy looking skirt strand on one edge and use permanent marker (red) to add a bleeding effect; and on another aspect, i will fish a swim jig with a swimbait trailer slow off the bottom like you would a slow moving trailer and pause on the bottom like your typical lift and drop and pause technique. This catches a lot of big bass for me. People get it in their heads that paddle tails must move at all times. So what does my presentation imitate? i have absolutely no idea. But it works.
  3. Steve, just truly remarkable. One of these days, i would love to sneak on that boat and go fish with you. If i were a betting man, i would say your favorite setup for big bass has a rage lobster on the end of it... Great fish as always,
  4. My wife just gave birth to our third child (a baby boy) and i have taken the week off. While the little nugget has slept, it has given me time to put together another video. I have been blessed to have a family cabin in Minnesota my whole life. Every year, i have made it a priority to fish there at least one week in the spring with the rest of my brosephs. We usually are able to make it out a week or two in the summer. Last year, i was able to make a fall trip for a week and plan on doing so regularly for the next few years. So, when we are there, we waste no time and get fishing. This is a video of some of the 5, 6, and 7 pounders we catch out there. With all of my footage, i have no idea how many videos i could make, but it is fun to put these things together. My wife thinks it's silly, but she supports me and that is all that matters! I would say these are big fish for Minnesota and small elsewhere. I have yet to get out fishing this year. Currently live in Wisconsin and it was in the 30s again today...this is ridiculous). Thanks for watchin, Shimmy
  5. Can tell by the thickness of the neck that it is spawning. The smaller ones are less skittish like this one so i am only putting it around the 2 ton range. Can tell by the thinner thighs too that it is probably only a couple hundred years old. The bigger ones are usually further away from a photo, and when it is blurry, then you know you got a giant.
  6. Not convinced Nessie did not catch that thing. Usually when they hover around like that, it is because something was stolen from them.
  7. Well, if you are going with a champion, the 735c is belle of the ball in that lineup. Just got mine and it is pitching 1/4 ounce jigs in my backyard very surprisingly well. It can also be fished in the nasty stuff. Figure if you were to get a dobyns champion, the 735c serves a lot of functions. But for the weights you are asking, the 3 to 4 power should be optimal. But...man, that 735c...it is so fun to hold. Not as sensitive as a Powell endurance, but it serves a different function than that.
  8. My goodness man...that is incredible. Who is this Ian fellow? Do yo all use anyone that can custom rods out as well with the same artistic prestige? I know DVC is a sponsor here but there is no gallery at his website, so...have know idea what they do so I am obviously less inclined towards them. Those reels are incredible. So envious!
  9. How do you rate the sensitivity? I had the Savvy 704 and thought the sensitivity was terrible...
  10. I want a good heavy jig rod that can be heavy enough for pitching and flipping, but nothing rated over 2oz. What are people's thoughts on this rod? I hear the extreme is the best sensitivity, but wont fork out that much money. So, how is the sensitivity/bottom contact feel for this rod? Better choices for the price?
  11. pickeral?
  12. Was unfamiliar with CXX line, very odd they would label it 8 pound test. when the diameter is that of higher end fluoro like 14 pound. Thanks for the tip. It's cheap, wonder if CXX 8 pound test could handle mammoths in lake baccarac...
  13. 8lb CXX for 10XDs...you are a brave man...
  14. It will be for heavy cranking like strike king 10xd. So i will have to stick to heavier line.
  15. Yeh, it seems that big crankbaits are better for Moderate action, but it seems some like a fast action for heavier cranks. I know that personal preference will play a role in this as well so my question will definitely be subjective. But, wouldn't mind any feedback regardless
  16. Hey all, I am in the market for a good heavy flipping jig/heavy crank bait rod. Preferrably one that is regular fast taper and not extra fast taper. Price range $300 ish (give or take). Preferably not rated for under 1 oz. and not over 2 oz. Also, nothing over 7'6 since the vehicles I use are not accommodating over that length. Never bought a heavy rod before, so any feedback would be greatly preferred! I am getting some ideas, but would rather be persuaded by experience of those on the forum. Shimmy
  17. Well, I will go with him to make sure he is not trespassing on Bill's pond. Then I will let y'all know.
  18. ...oh my goodness man wow!!! That is a giant bass! Just crazy...back to back weeks. So, what depth are you catching them at? Off a main lake point, secondary point, ledge? Didn't you just finish a Mehico trip recently too??!!??
  19. Well, as some have noticed, I am trying to get rid of all the videos on my external hard drive and finally have time to make videos. The quality on this kinda sucks. Can't stand how some videos just won't transfer well to the tube. This reservoir used to drive me nuts. You could go all day without a bite and come back the next day and catch nothing. Good thing about fishing tough reservoirs is it gives you a chance to learn more about fishing structure. I eventually figured a few things out about this reservoir, but it came after a lot of failure. Enjoy! Shimmy
  20. 17 to 20 pound line is the only solution. In Minnesota, you can catch a lot of fish and a having to retie a leader frequently can be obnoxious and inconvenient. So, 20 pound fluoro line gives you a chance of not losing your lure, even though you will still lose a lot (especially if it is a jig or worm. I lose few surprisingly on moving baits. Trilene's 20 pound line is a great diameter for not losing baits. Northern are my nemesis. People wishing they had them in their region are like those who wish they could get in a fight to find out what it feels like.
  21. Agenda? Didn't think there was any ambiguity to my comment. People are here to post their personal best. It is a fishing website, but no need to tell fish stories on a PB thread. You are free to disagree with me and that is fine. For the guys who enjoy chasing bigger fish where weight matters, then it seems silly to post inaccurate weights. For those who don't care about the weight of fish, then there is no worry of posting a fish weight that may be inaccurate. Both perspective are neither intrinsically better than the other. Maybe we could change the title to "What You Think You Want Your PB To Be." Side note, not even a full arm extension and up-close picture will make that bass 8 pounds. And while I don't need your approval, i must say your fish looks every bit of 10 pounds. You could hold that thing behind your head and it would still look big.
  22. Another video for any walleye fisherman. While we don't really know what we are doing when it comes to walleye, we still hook into a few good ones. Enjoy.
  23. Pig!!!!! Awesome man. That is a long fish.
  24. Come on now man....it is awesome that you were happy to catch it, but don't throw out the two scales story. If that bass is 8 pounds, then your spinnerbait is 6 pounds. Look at some of the pictures here of 6 pounders and compare.
