Great write up. Fun to see how the tournament goes. With so many boats out there, that would be a nightmare.

Question
I am ALWAYS in the viewpoint that you take pictures of big bass. Great fish, be reasonable with how long it is out of the water. Take several pictures, let em go. Most will swim away just fine. Every once in a while, one does not and it was unexpected. This is a part of fishing. Control what you can, get the pic, and post on the forum.

March pond Trip
Dwight, it is great to see you at it again. Seeing you with the energy to hoist your big bass again makes me smile. I am very happy for you and glad you can get back into this again. Great fish as always. Jeff, what the heck man...have you been on a massive diet recently? Goodness man. Congrats on the weight loss. I am in a bit of a diet myself in the moment. Can't wait to join you out there on the pond. (hint hint...jedi mind trick wave - ). Awesome trip fellas, Shimmy

Wisconsin Bass
Hmm, not ALL accurate. Some lakes are not off limits. Fishing is STILL available now. You need to fish the Flowage system. This is open year round and you do not need to wait till the bass opener. Check these waters and see if any are near you. http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/fishing/seasons/yearnd.html In particular, the main ones nearby me are: Winnebago Waters - Lakes Winnebago, Butte des Morts, Poygan, Winneconne - Calumet, Fond du Lac, Waushara and Winnebago Counties - (motor trolling is permitted) No need to wait if you are near these waters.

Multiple rods on the boat deck
To me, each rod and reel has its own story of how and when i obtained them. Don't have many rods, but if i can get them all on the deck, i will. I love the art of choosing line size, the right lure, and then having them on deck. I work hard to have what i have on deck, so i find it more enjoyable to have my arsenal on the deck so i can make a quick cast if needed despite the fact i know my jig will be my main approach. If i had the space, the money, i would have 25 rods on deck. I love knowing i have options. Plus, when you see most pros who fish for their living have 10-20 rods on deck, it means they have found utility for that and it's not just for looks or sales. When the best fisherman in the world show that it is no longer needed to get dialed in, then i will rethink it.

Bass fishing on hold for now!
Man, last time out for me was mid to late October. I won't be able to really get on the water for another month in the very least. That will be 6 months!!! I have come to the realization that i actually do not fish that much even though it feels like i do. I can't take the north. Can't take it anymore.

Finally!
The picture is odd and doesn't do the fish justice, but you can tell it is a big fish. You aren't doing my long-arm! Dimensionally though, you can tell it is big. Looks 6ish? Great job!

Unfortunate incident with fellow angler.
Aren't there distance regulations from the DNR? Can you not take a picture/video of it and send it to the DNR for further inquiry/investigation or am I misinformed?

Listening to music while fishing
No music. That would destroy the nature part for me. I can listen to music anywhere else. It does irk me though when people assume you want to hear their music on the water and don't turn it down when you are next to each other.

Bass Fishing Blasphemy
I dont use braid. My clothes are not matching or stylish when i fish. Socks in sandles. I used a hammer as an anchor. I sing A LOT when fishing and half the time it is a stupid song or tune i hate. Bananas in boat. Never sight fish. When i catch a big fish, i will spend half of the rest of the day going back to the livewell and stare at the fish. I dont do the tough guy, im so bad, i am pretending this is normal so i wont smile look after a big fish. I have to smile. I dont need to do instructional youtube videos since people can just use their eye balls to see what im doing if they feel like it. Plus nothing i do is innovative. I just copy what i have seen other people do that is successful. I may feel like i am soing something new, but i probably subconsciously remember it from something i saw or heard.

Baccarac Bassin'
Awesome trip man! Yeh, the one big thing I heard before coming there was don't take the 2.5 day trip. I did the 4 day trip. A 9.13 is an absolute giant. Who was your guide? I loved the lodge. Absolutely awesome place and the food was unbelievable. Every time you come in from the trip, people are waiting to serve you the best food ever. How many people were at the lodge? I want to head back so badly. There is this crazy magical feeling when you walk down the launch ramp and head out on the water. Never felt that before. Just knowing you are on the best bass fishery in the world and that a world record is swimming somewhere in those murky waters. Great job out there and thanks for the report.

Lost integrity? Or just misplaced?
I like the passion you have against smoking and trying to make a stand. Nevertheless, to piggyback off of A-jay, focusing on parenting is more important than anything discussed here. I am no better than anyone else and am not trying to become too preachy here, but I have never smoked or had a drink of alcohol in my life. Didn't matter if commercials, advertisements, or peers tried to influence me since I learned what I needed from parents who taught me about keeping my body healthier and took an active interest in teaching me with their words AND example. Like Glenn pointed out, there are bad apples in every profession, but one of the reasons I love this sport is because of the amazing people I have fished with and the integrity they provided.

What did you learn or where did you improve at in 2016 .
Great question. Was fun to think about. I learned that reeling a crankbait at lightning speed can trigger some GIANT bass. Always thought that was a smaller fish/northern pike type presentation. Also learned the importance of fishing seemingly less productive water slowly and meticulously. This is more for smaller bodies of water. Basically, if you choose to fish a spot that seems "seemingly less important," fish it the right way with the best approach you got. This spring, summer, and fall, most of my big bass came from spots that usually aren't productive. Was another reminder to fish your best at every spot and not to speed through if you CHOOSE to fish it. I know it is good to generally focus on more productive waters, but there is something about the 300 acre type lakes where there can be some interesting surprises if you are strategic with your explorations.

Landed Fish
Didn't you know that every missed fish is either 5, 8, or 10 pounds?

Improving Your Fishing
I would love to get better at jig fishing. This is such a fun style of fishing that has SO much room for improvement and mastery.

I really loathe Bad Anglers
I did bud. Everyone already pretty much stated that we don't like snooty anglers and for you to stop loathing people.
-
28 and 27 pound Minnesota Bags
Yeh, but you always find a way to CONSISTENTLY catch big bass in that area. Fishing with you was my first wake up call to jerkbait fishing. It was humbling to say the least!
