  1. After talking with many guys on this forum, i bought the LEWS TP a little while back and it really is everything that people say it is. Just read the TW reviews in addition and the reel is just something else. I cast it outside on the grass just so i can feel the buttery smooth retrieve. Just an unbelievable reel.
  2. And this is why RW is the man. How many people get rebuked on an internet forum and come back with an apology?! Kent is the man period. Goose, you are the man as well, but y'all get the point.
  3. That is a huge crappie! Great to hear you got his boat running. That is always torture when you have the boat on the water for the first time and it won't run. Almost clock work for me every year with my annual trip to MN and launching on our first lake of the year. The bass are there, you are fully prepared and pumped, and like clock work, something is wrong with the motor. Glad that thing went running. Downside, now he is going to enter your tournaments more often and stealing some of that money...
  4. Great photos! Great to see a fisherman getting into some good ones here in the VA. Great job, gotta love that jig.
  5. Great log. This is always fun stuff to read. I agree with another member when they stated how awesome that photo is when you first posted it. That is just awesome.
  6. Welcome! Always nice to meet another ashburn fisherman. I just posted a short video of some bass at Beaverdam Reservoir in the fishing reports section. I don't fish the ponds around there but many people do and catch bass up to 7 pounds in that area. So, it is great fishing and honestly feel like your chances of catching a nice bass there are similar to those caught in Beaverdam. Both great spots. Beaverdam can be obnoxious at times but it holds great fish. I'm still trying to figure that place out. It is definitely a seasonal lake in that good spots are constantly changing with the weather. That makes it very difficult. At least with ponds, you know the fish are going to be there, you just got to get them to bite. Crankbaits are great out there in beaverdam. Make real long casts and fish the points for starters. Let us know what how you do.
  7. Thanks guys. Every time i try to take the hat off, it finds itself magically back on my head. Like some weird magic trick.
  8. that's tough...between 8-10? That is a beautiful fish. Nice catch
  9. Its here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/110894-virginia-largemouth-bass-spoof-video/ Just a silly video but had a blast making it.
  10. Here is a fun video to pass the time. Tried editing it on iMovie for Mac which was actually quite pleasant. Hope no one that watches it actually takes it seriously. It is made for fun. The video is just a prequel of some more aimless ones i'll make later. It's short. Hard part is timing it with the music. One of these days i'll purchase an advanced video editor. This is fun to do and i advise others if they get bored this winter to make a video. This is at Beaverdam Reservoir in Ashburn, VA. A fun 350 acre lake but had a bad drought in 2005-2006 reducing it to 5 or 10% pool and to save the fish due to depleting oxygen levels people were told to keep what they caught and the lake took a good hit. I moved here after the fact in 2009 just in time for the fishing to get back up. I'm sure there a few monsters left in there that survived that drought and am still on the hunt for them. Nevertheless, i love fishing this reservoir and was very humbled when i started fishing it. It's getting easier now but i have suffered dearly to even build confidence out there. Hope this video passes the time and hopefully you all consider making some more videos as well. Merry Christmas, happy new year, and get the net. Troy Watch in HD, looks better
  11. That is Dwight Hottle status there! You have joined one of the elite teams with such a year regardless that it was in Mexico. Flat out awesome numbers. Not Big-O status, but one can only dream! I hope this forum keeps up a Mexico trip through the years so it can be a frequent thing. Great year man. Troy
  12. Just beautiful! These yearly show me your tackle threads never die. Just wonderful.
  13. #1 Uncle Josh Pork, the legend never dies #2 rage craw, the best moving action and moves just slow enough while resting to be the best of both. honestly, have the hardest time choosing between these two options. Always a coin toss.
  14. I have the ability to stay on the same fishing spot for hours without even catching a fish. After a long day of fishing without a bite, i go home like a thief in the night, the bass never even knew i was there...or did they... . yeh, they probably did.
  15. Should have clarified, i like the tournament atmosphere despite not having money involved. Always makes fun bragging rights. Last one i was apart of was a blast despite me and my comrade coming in second (due to my stubbornness to switch to that stinking jerkbait).
  16. Awesome Jon. Love the write ups.
  17. Love to get together with you guys. Would love to hit the Potomac. Perhaps may be the most accommodating for everyone up north. Be fun to make a tournament out of it.
  18. I fished once with the Quanjig and still remember him hammering them on his jerkbaits and Skeet reese rods! I too also remember almost falling in on several occasions. Jon are you running any side imaging or just a regular depth finder scanning below? What spoons were you tossing out? It sounds like you were sticking the fish relatively shallow on jerkbaits for the area which i found surprising. Awesome trip guys. Nitro sounds like a class act and the type of guy you want to fish with on these forums.
  19. ever read all the responses in a post and wish you had the knowledge of those posting...This site does this to a man. I kinda felt smart reading it though if that counts despite not knowing 99% of it. I will eventually have to learn the manliness way of reel maintenance after reading articles like this and then grow a beard and then go hunt something. Just plain awesomeness.
  20. I think there are obviously going to be limits with a formula like this but i think everything you mentioned has a good likelihood to consistently catch fish, if that helps. More specifically, I think the biggest thing you may be missing out on is state location and how some states receive longer/shorter, colder/warmer winters and perhaps more importantly, bottom fishing in the summer months. Within the past few years, I actually caught bigger bass (6+ pounds) in the summer months bottom fishing than any other time of year (i know this varies between people but the point still remains). For your last question, every lake is different and water temperature is just a piece of the puzzle for early spawn (remember sunlight penetrating the water inducing the hormonal change with fish, longer days in general, and consistency of water temperature/weather to name a few). I understand you are trying to find the "gist" of fishing the right location but i think the most important parts are finding the patterns of the baitfish and the current weather stability/fluctuations. These two things can single-handedly change the locations of bass at any time of the year. I'm sure i'm missing more but this is all i can muster now. Shimmy
  21. That's interesting to hear. I have not heard of Loomis having a poor lineup in a while so this is good to know.
  22. Anything medium heavy to heavy. Dobyns Savvy has a heavy (704 and 734) that feels in between medium heavy and heavy that i absolutely love. It will even toss 1/4 ounce jigs really far with a good reel. It is most comfortable with a 3/8 to 1/2 ounce lures though. Nevertheless, 1/4 ounce weights for worm fishing and it will do well but better with heavier jig setups. So given your heavier weight choice, i have a personal bias for the Dobyns Savvy. I have heard however that the Powell Endurance MH may be a better rod but don't have experience to say otherwise. I'm guessing the Loomis would be your best option but is a tad more expensive.
  23. Go watch the movies highlander or braveheart. I'm sure you'll receive enough inspiration to know what to do with it.
  24. What a great thread! A shame this is only 3 pages long thus far. When your wife falls off the boat into the lake right before it ices over and you dive in for the pole. When you walk into a room in a guests house and scan the best spot to catch a big bass. You talk more about the color of skirts than your wife. When your wife holds the lure as you practice setting the hook and hit her in the eye with your rod tip. When you snag your 2 year-old daughter in the living room with a huddleston swimbait. I'm not proud of this. Shimmy
  25. Awesome. It was not hard to tell when you hooked into the kitty cat. It started spinning a million miles an hour like some crazy Tasmanian devil. Great video.
