Snakehead Catching And Killing In S. Florida
I never had the unreal expectation that we could eliminate the snakehead from the S. Florida waterways, but it has been alot of fun trying. I participated in a snakhead tournament this past weekend (video at bottom). I can tell you that the snakehead population is takeing a beating thanks to all the bad press they have been getting. Between the FWC shock boats, the tournament killers, and the recreational anglers, I have seen a dramatic decline in the numbers of snakeheads in the canals. The areas I have been targeting are not produceing near the size I once caught. However if you can find off the beaten path water...your chances of hooking into a world record is good. At the end of video you will see the pending I.G.F.A world record snakehead angler, Corey Noakowski, talking about his fish. On a side note....Over the past few weeks the FWC has documented snakehead catches in both Loxahatchee Preserve and Holiday Park. This means that there is no doubt that the snakehead is here to stay....or I would say the the Genie is out of the bottle. =

Deep In The Everglades 3/18/2012
The water has been really high and the bite has been hit and miss this winter in the glades, but the bite is just about to go off in the southern most parts of the everglades. Keith and Brandi from Alabama caught them on a combination of Yamamoto wacky rigged senkos, and Heddon torpedos. The largest bass of the day came from a weightless 12" black and blue Bass Pro Shops worm. Brandi said she usually gets skunked when they go fishing and Keith had never caught a bass over two pounds, so they were really having a good time. They hooked up on an alligator with a torpedo and she was really bummed that we were not able to get it to the boat. I'am glad it got off since I really don't like to getting baits out of a gators mouth. The hot bite in the glades is just a few days away and Holiday Park and L-68 should come to life once again. I normally do not show my guest videos, but this young couple was having too much fun.

Hit In The Neck By A Splitshot
One of our fellow South Florida captains spent the afternoon in the hospital after freak split shot accident. Capt. Steve was helping a client free up a split shot weighted senko when it came back and hit him in the neck. Steve said, "They had to have a plastic surgeon come and cut it out after the Dr. in the ER cut an inch long gash in my neck and could not get to it...and that was with the line still crimped in the weight".

New Arkansas State Record Undone!
Boy what a bad situation! Talk about going from an extreme high to the extreme low. I congratulate Dunn on a fine catch.....but what a bone head decision to try to buy a license after the fact. Good call by the state officials.

New Pending I.g.f.a World Record Snakehead Caught In S. Florida
Some folks say we have Giants, I have not seen one yet or heard about any being caught.

Swimming Worms
I use a Zoom Vibra worm sometimes with fantastic results. It is basically a cut tail worm that when worked through the water the tail wags drawing some awesome strikes. I like to use it parallel to heavy cover.

New Pending I.g.f.a World Record Snakehead Caught In S. Florida
I Should have been more specific. The snakeheads we have in Florida are not the same as the snakeheads in the north. Down here in Florida we have the Channa Marulioides, known as the Bullseye.

South Florida Boat Recommendations. Bass/flats/hybrid
In the market for a boat. You south Florida guys know how it is in dry season so my rig needs to be able to launch most of the year and perform in places like Lox and the Interceptor. I live on the intercoastal so a hybrid or flats boat is also an option. I need to be able to fish 3 people. Another key consideration is weight since I will be pulling it with my Jeep. Needs to be in the sub 10k range. Considering these points what are some of the boats out there that you would consider?

New Pending I.g.f.a World Record Snakehead Caught In S. Florida
Congratulations to South Florida angler and my friend, Corey Nowakowski for a pending new world record snakehead catch. The fish was caught here in South Florida on a buzz frog. The fished weighed in at 12 pounds, eclipseing the current I.G.F.A. record of 11.8 pounds which was caught Asia.

South Florida Bass Trip...
The next Snakehead roundup is march 17th. Thanks for the compliment. I have noticed that the normal area we have been finding the snakeheads are being shocked regularly by the FWC. The more obscure and out of the way spots are still giving up huge fish. BTW, my friend and fishing buddy, Corey Nowakowski just summitted a pending I.G.F.A. world record 12 pound snakehead. I'll post up that picture tonight.

In Clewiston, Want Bass!
I know several guides who work it hard up there. Brett with Bass On Line and Steve McDonald with BassMaster Guide service. Just two who I can say are working the Big O hard, and on fish. Sorry you had a bad experience.
