anyone fish in winter park/maitland florida?
20 years ago I used to fish a small lake at the NE corner of the Maitland Blvd. and I-4. There was a small orange grove infront of it and a neighborhood behind it. It was about 25 acres. Caught my personal best in it. Good luck.

Your Best Day Ever?
My most memorable day was a rainy and overcast august day in the Everglades. It rained all day long. We were tossing Horny Toad froggs the entire trip. Caught several hundred on the top. Largest a little better than 8#'s. My 2nd most memorable day was the first 300+ bass day(me and 2 others in my boat). Largest was 7#'s+ but most were in the 1#-3# range. Went through 14 bags of Zoom trick worms.

Florida and Deep South bassin
IMO. Florida bass fishing is best broken up in regions. Each region is different. I fish the as far south as you can get(very tropical). My fishing success has a lot to do with the water levels. Sept and Oct we get a lot of water coming from the the kissimmee valley through lake okeechobee pushing bass out onto the sawgrass flats and into the cypress heads. The bass are difficult to find unless you are in an airboat. Nov through feb can be pretty good but a few good cold fronts can knock a bite down pretty quick or kill it all together. Bassing March through August are world class! I'am sure other regions like lake okeechobee are different.

Everglades bass, oscar and cyclids 11-20-09
Fished the glades from the bank today. Again I was blown away that most of the fish caught were the peacock bass. All were small. I did manage a few black bass. Had at least a dozen oscars and cyclids. Anyway most of the fish I threw back were being tracked by alligators. Here are a couple of short clips of the gator action.

best lure when bass are boiling
My go to bait on boiling or busting bass is a Rapala Husky Jerk in Tennessee shad.

I'm new to the site...travelling to FLA in March
March is one of the best months of the year for the Everglades. The 2nd or third week of the month is a post spawn feeding bonanza.

Some thoughts on hook removal
Thank you for posting this article. I always cut the line and leave the hook. I cannot tell you how many gut hooked bass we release each year. I am looking forward to applying and sharing this method with my fellow anglers.

Help! what lures do you guys use for peacock bass?
Like the guys before said, same as regular bass baits, with lots of flash! Husky jerks (any jerk bait), X-Raps, shallow running crankbaits. I even caught them on plastic worms. Look for some rocky bottom. Here is a Florida Sportsman article which will guide you to some of south Floridas most popular peacock canals. Best of luck! http://www.floridasportsman.com/regions/so/R_0007_Residential/index.html

Re: Florida Everglades Invasion of Peacock Bass 11-7-09
I apologize fellas, I had some technical difficulties, but it wasn't the Rum...LOL I fished in the central south part of the everglades today. Been fishing same location for past 11 years. Today I get there and get blown up by Peacock bass. Yea they are all over south Florida but this is the first season they have made it into this neck of glades. For an hour and a half I landed 25-30 peacocks and 8 largemouth. Those peacocks were blowing my topwater bait out of the water a foot sometimes and knocking it around like a soccer ball. All were caught on a Yozuri suspending, rapala husky jerk and a skitter walk. It was great. They were all the size as the one in photo. Can't wait to see what these fish will look like in 4-5 years. These gators were all around me the whole time I was fishing.
