  2. went to BPS near my home tonight and spend over an hour with the very knowledgeable sales person (doesnt work on commission). He basically echoed these issues about lowrance. he said they've had several lowrance hds7's returned with problems. he said they're "buggy" and that lowrance is still trying to work out the issues. he said lowrance does stand behind their products...but...customer service is VERY slow and turn around times are 2 months sometimes. also... the hb comes with the structure scan hd sonar ALREADY loaded...it isnt a $600 upgrade like the lowrance. the HDS10 (with structure scan $2200 + $600) and the hb1197 were both $2800. also... the lake map chips that u can buy for these units...with the hb u just pop in the chip and it loads automatically in seconds... the lowrance doesnt load automatically. also.... FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RACINE, Wisconsin, January 27, 2010 - Johnson Outdoors Inc. (JOUT: Nasdaq) today announced it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Navico, Inc. for infringement of U.S. Patent No. 7,652,952 by Navico's sale of the Lowrance LSS-1 StructureScan Imaging System. Johnson Outdoors' patent protects the Humminbird® Side Imaging® sonar technology. The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court in Alabama, the home of Humminbird® products for over 50 years. Johnson Outdoors' Side Imaging® sonar produces detailed and recognizable images of underwater objects and waterbeds enabling anglers to pinpoint habitat, structure and drop-offs which are prime holding areas for fish. The patent application process began in 2004 prior to the Company's introduction of Side Imaging® sonar in Humminbird® 900 series fishfinder models the following year. Consumer demand prompted Johnson Outdoors to expand utilization of Side Imaging® sonar technology across a broad range of its Humminbird® portfolio and was a key driver behind the brand's growth over the past four years. Following a comprehensive and methodical review process, on January 26, 2010, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted the Company's patent for Side Imaging® sonar. Our intellectual property policy is very simple: we will respect the property of others and fiercely protect that of our own. We were diligent throughout the Side Imaging® sonar technology patent application process to ensure we achieved both because real innovation brings real value which our customers and consumers expect and demand. By taking steps to protect our ideas and inventions, we help ensure our ability to continue to bring forward meaningful advances and innovative products that excite consumers and build our customers' business, said Kelly Grindle, Group Vice President Marine Electronics & Watercraft. The Company's complaint says Navico, Inc. expended substantial resources to inform the trade and relevant purchasers of fish finding products, that it too would use side scan technology to compete directly with Humminbird® Side Imaging® sonar products with knowledge that the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office had approved the Company's patent. The complaint further says Navico actively induced infringement of the patent by resellers. . The Company is asking the Court to enjoin Navico from further infringement of the patented Side Imaging® sonar technology. according to that salesman... it is entirely likely that if HB wins they'll make lowrance STOP producing the side scan HD sonar. and finally... they've had ZERO hb's returned for repairs in the last year...hmmmm. Im also in the market for a new one and i think i might go with the HB.
  3. i wonder how much time you'd spend untangling the trebles?
  4. I'm researching boat insurance companies in lieu of buying my first bass boat in a couple of weeks. Checked Progressive so far. Homeowners and auto is with them...(multi-policy discount)...any other recommendations? ...or warnings?
  5. just talked to the owner...its a 125 merc ...not a 90.
  6. 90 hp is one of my major concerns. I've spoken to some people who know the boat and owner. they say the boat is in perfect shape. he's asking $6500.
  7. I'm about to go look at a 1999 18 ft. viper cobra (90 hp motor, not sure yet what brand) in the next week or so. I understand that i need to have a mechanic check it out and all that GENERAL used boat checklist stuff. Can NE1 tell me NEthing specific to look for when looking at a this boat? dont know too much about vipers.
  8. i guess there are a few pockets here and there and I do work those edges. these pads are really thick, and deep too, at some places they're 30 to 40 ft from the edge to the shore. Lots of great ideas keep 'em coming.
  9. careful now... you're about to begin a lifelong addiction from which there is NO return! ;D ;D Dive in and have fun! good luck.
  10. one of my favorite local lakes is virtually surrounded by lilly pads every year. I KNOW there are 6-7 pounders in there. trouble is, later in the season around august, the pads grow (and the water level drops) so that the pads are 6 inches or more ABOVE the surface of the water. This makes it nearly impossible to flip a frog or anything else deep into the pads where the bigun's are. My line is always getting hung up on the pads destroying any lifelike presentation. > NE1 have any tried and true techniques for this frustrating situation?
  11. a small amount of Lock-Tite on the threads should do the trick
  12. NE1 get their hands on this one yet? Diawa's Twitchin' Bar. revolution or gimmick?
  13. looks like its unanimous! thx guys.
  14. Hey all. got a st. croix 6'8" mojo bass wacky style finesse rod that i wanna put a good finesse reel on. i was thinking a stradic CI4 would be good. but ordering it online i cant decide btwn a 1000 or 2500 size. ne1 wanna put their 2 cents in here? its certainly welcome...
  15. mine's planning a remodel in the next month too. cant get any employees to tell me what the plans are for the sporting goods dept. im gonna be a lil peeved if its smaller. BPS , GM, & Cabelas are all more than 1 hr away. Maybe I'll be shopping more online in the future.
  16. wouldn't it be easier to just change the entire reel instead of fooling around with the spools? Just an observation.
  17. i wonder if i could get MY walmart to mark em down to $50 thru some kind of price matching policy? U mind tellin WHICH walmart had 'em for $50? It'll be useful info for my mission.
  18. reading this post has helped me identify my addiction. My name is Rich... and I'm an addict.
  19. Is there a motor that does tolerate intermittent use a little better? I have 4 small kids and once a week , early sat morning fishing, I consider a luxury. More frequent trips to the lake in 5 yrs or so but right now its possible to sit unused for a month under the right or wrong circumstances
  20. ne1 swear by the rage tail frog? what about the coffee scented ones? does coffee scent reeeeally get more strikes? i love the lifelike appearance and cant wait to see that first explosion this spring!
  21. lol i just might do that.

  23. that's the beauty of this forum, so many readers....and opinions...if someone's experiences or ideas are a little out of the norm, it'll usually get corrected.
