  1. BC- Ardent XS1000 8-) - Ebay $150 Shimano Compre - $100 S- Shimano Saros - Ebay $100 Shimano Compre or Crucial - $100-$160
  2. Fellow Lancaster PA guy on here? I have one and its good for $60, never given me any problems as a light use fill in reel.
  3. I'd take the normal Stadic FI.
  4. I use Ardent line butter, on all three, after each use. It really helps to let it soak in for a day or more.
  5. Hold the outfit like you would if you were fishing. It should balance on your finger farthest away from you. (your index finger). A well balanced, heavy set up will feel lighter than a light unbalanced set up. Think of holding a 10 foot steel pole at the very end versus in the middle.
  6. I do! At least for bass. I fish MD and PA, so here's what I use. 1. Baitcaster on a 6'6" M XF rod. (Ardent xs1000 on All Star Platinum, 15 lb Siege). 2. Baitcaster on a 7' XH XF rod. (Daiwa Coastal on Fenwick HMX, 50lb braid) 3. Spinning reel on 7 M spinning rod. (Saros 3000 on Compre, 10 lb Elite)
  7. Now that's the spirit!
  8. Oh won't that be a shame.
  9. My dad is a charter captain, so I don't really hear much at all from him. Its more from my own conscience. Do I really need $150 rods and reels? I know KVD could whoop my *** with a $60 combo any day of the week. So just that thought has recently kept me from buying too much gear, even though my parents probably wouldn't have many objections. I kind of pride myself on only using a few combos, like a challenge to myself. And of course, its not a hard challenge to succeed at: catching bass with "only" 3 combos. But I don't fish with garbage, either. But on the gear subject, I am getting into fly fishing. Don't those Sage rods just look sweet..... ;D
  10. He'll love it. Trust me! ho ho ho.
  11. Yeah I agree, especially Boston. Yikes there's a lot of good teams. Go Flyers.
  12. Yeah I also use a heavier rod than what is usually recommended. I usually fish wacky rigs around alot of cover, so I need to steer the fish around alot.
  13. Well, who will actually win it, and why?
  14. I like Sufix. But Trilene XL is great, too.
  15. This is definately not the case with me...personally, I don't like the white finish nor the split evo grips. Regarding the sensitivity issue, I would love to hear which $100 rod people think is more sensitive than this one...I own about 20 rods in/around the $100 price range (St Croix premier, Fenwick HMX, BPS extreme, All Star, etc...) and the veritas is the most sensitive of the bunch. The All Star IM10 is probably the next most sensitive of the rods I own in that tier... OK, so maybe sensitivity very individual (how you hold it, what kind of line, what weight reel, etc.) I wish there was a way to scientifically test and rate rods' sensitivity. I guess you could just monitor vibrations or something? Tackle tour should do it, since they're into that kind of stuff. Then we could put an end to all disputes and find what rod really it the most sensitive.
  16. Just received my new Veritas rods today. I gotta say they are amazing. Yes I am sponsored by Pure Fishing and Abu Garcia. However I am not obligated to fish their rods. It was a choice I made because they are great rods. I am a big fan of affordable quality rods, the Veritas is every bit of that and more. Pure Fishing also owns Fenwick and I love them, but this is a better rod in every way. I looked at one of the Veritas rods. Not impressed. Very flimsy guides, and they did not seem sensitive at all. But they were light. Probably just from the lack of handle material, though. Im impressed that you can tell all that info just by looking at a rod. They are not flimsy at all, and they are very sensitive. Im sponsored by another rod company and have fished alot of those available, the Veritas is for real. Is it equal to a $250 Dobyns rod? No. Does it shine above and beyond the $129 rod market? Absolutely. Does it cost $129? Nope. This thread was asking about rods under $100. Did you have a suggestion? Also, the handle material is the same as alot of rods, Wright & McGill wring a bell? Not directed at you, bu there is so much uneducated opinions here. How bout fishing someting before you post about it. OK, misunderstaning. I significantly handled a Veritas. And yes, the guide feet (at least on the spinning rods) are very flimsy. And you can test for sensitivity. I think people are impressed alot at the Veritas cause it is visually appealing and its the latest and greatest.

  18. Blow away Compre and Premier sensitivity wise, in my opinion.
  19. I am aware of this. But I think this is more talking about taking loose fibers and making cordage out of them. Like single ply cordage, double ply, ect. If you were to go out, gather some hemp fibers, and start to twist, I am absolutely positive that the many small strands is better that the one big one. I think part of that is because they squeeze each other together under tension. But with FC, you can synthetically make one long, unbroken "fiber", I am not sure what rules apply. :-/ But maybe I'm still missing the point.
  20. I don't think that braiding lots of little FC strands together or just having one big FC strand makes a difference.
