  1. Well done! And a hearty congrats!
  2. My experience says DEET based repellants tend to be the best. Higher the DEET, better the repellant.....
  3. <prayer> Dear @Fish Chris, please give up (or at least put on hold) car stereos, and come back to the bass world and teach us MORE about how monsters are caught.... <end prayer>
  4. I shipped a rod in a tube I received a rod in, so it was cardboard, with bubble rap at the tip and butt. If I were to ship one today, I've got another of those rod tubes, or I'd buy a PVC tube + end caps to make it that much safer.
  5. Well done! Debt is no fun. Wish I had none One son is in college now, paying his way, 3 more to go. Then we will be able to pay everything off...we hope. 4 boys eat entire refrigerators. Grocery bill was fine before they hit puberty.
  6. This pretty much says it all. A matter of preference, thus it is all subjective to the whims of the user.
  7. First question is, did he catch anything? Second is...no, more of a statement. I suppose if it works, use it. 15# braid is the diameter equal to 4# mono, so consider that, too. Like you, I also use mono or copoly line for live bait fishing as opposed to straight braid.
  8. For a UL reel, I'd actually go for a 500 size Shimano. I use 1000 size for bass fishing all the time. But it is suitable for UL and L fishing, too...obviously.
  9. Welcome aboard!
  10. Noise doesn't happen to bother me, but PP Super Slick 8 is less noisy than the regular PP. I have it on a couple of my reels now and am starting to prefer it over regular PP.
  11. Very nice! Every time we drive over the JR Bridge on our way to soccer tournaments in Richmond, my boys (and I) want to drive down and fish it. Anyway, some day.
  12. There is a lot of pressure to do what the pros do or use what the pros use. In reality, you can accomplish what you need to accomplish with spinning gear. Tournaments? Here's an FLW pro who uses only spinning gear. It can be done. http://www.flwfishing.com/tips/2014-04-22-going-big-with-a-spinning-rod If you are comfortable with it and efficient with it, use it. You aren't less of a fisherman because you don't have a bait caster. If you want to learn bait casting, fine, then do so. I did, and I'm glad I did, but I'll be very honest, these days I'm using my spinning gear more than casting gear. I've even reduced my casting gear to one reel, two rods of different action. So contrary to some who take multiple casting rods and a single spinning rod out, I do the opposite now. Don't sell your abilities to fish short by being "stuck" with spinning gear....
  13. Congratulations!
  14. "Generally" to whom? You can do everything with spinning if that's what you want to do. You don't *have* to do casting no matter what anyone says. Otherwise, use both.
  15. Welcome aboard!
  16. We should ask @Fish Chris about some of his trophy bass. Live nightcrawler, live crawdads, swim baits. Small to large. They all work. For me, or I should say, my PB, a 5" senko. Most of my 6+ pounders on 4" senkos... All depends on, as @J Francho said, "what the big girls want"...
  17. Nice! But since you live on Florida's fabulous treasure coast, shouldn't you be....wait for it.... Fishing for the Halibut? <drops mic>
  18. Happy Day!
  19. Spinning can be used for everything, casting for most everything. Depends on whether you want to do it or not. I tried to do casting for everything. Got pretty darn good with it, too. And for "everything", that means different things to different people. Do you use every technique? Or just a few? For me I use a few techniques. I have actually reduced my casting gear to just two units. The Lexa is now one of my boys', and I kept one Chronarch 50e setup for myself (with a ML and a MH rod). Sold my other 50e. I have simply found spinning gear to be more useful to me in enjoying the sport. I can skip under low lying bushes/trees, docks, etc. much better. I don't have to deal with professional overruns, and so on. I also don't fish tourneys, and I don't fish heavy lures and such. For me, I've evolved from complicated to K.I.S.S. At least that's where I am at today
  20. You're just stubborn
