Budget Bassin
Welcome to the forums! For multi-species? I pick live bait... Though I've caught plenty on Zoom Finesse worms probably more than any other baits.

Grip/scale
I won't mention Boga. ... oops. But I did lose my F&S from Dick's over the summer when "tossing" it between my yak and one of my boys. Don't ask. But it was a very good scale. Pretty much as accurate as my Boga.

Daiwa Vs. Shimano: New Spinning Reel
Take your pick, IMO. Both are fantastic reels. I've got two Stradic FI reels that I love, but I have been very impressed with Daiwa's build - bought a Lexa 2000SH a few years back, solid, smooth reel. Put my hands on the higher end reels in-store from Diawa. Honestly would be an either/or for me. Probably would go Shimano though, if only for a higher gear ratio.

Does This Make You Mad?
C&R for me all the time. Only time it was suggested strongly to me otherwise was when I caught a 14 lb Striper in our local reservoir where they do not stock them. Local biologist with Fish & Game wished I kept it for research, aging, etc. Otherwise, I release. Now for the record, I have eaten fish in the past. Just isn't something I like to eat, so I don't. If others do, I hope it is done responsibly. Sadly, I've had to speak with kids who were keeping/killing fish for fun. That stuff is just unacceptable.
