  1. Was looking at the reel last night online. For me it has an element of "cool" in terms of looks. Just doesn't float my boat enough to buy one -- even if it were made by Shimano
  2. Braid + leader for everything. Braid is pricey, and I cut a lot less of it off when changing out leaders as opposed to changing out hooks through the day. And what RW said is so true. I've found lures out there with attached braid so thick I could have used it as climbing rope, LOL.
  3. Heartfelt condolences. Great memories to cherish forever.
  4. Indeed, I can appreciate it! I have both left my PFD AND my tackle at home before!! Made for a "not much to do" trip that day, if it weren't for my wife brining them to me!
  5. Just don't forget your PFD, and your tackle.
  6. I'm jealous. Not for the fishing spots, but the JDM shopping spots, LOL. Get to Lake Biwa if you can. There's a lunker just waiting for you!
  7. I use MF, MXF, and MH for TX rigging. 6'6" is the longest I currently fish.
  8. Well, there are some lovely places in Virginia, too. Have a look at Smith Mountain Lake. We've vacationed there, and it is a haven for a number of fish species, and there are beautiful spots to retire.
  9. Welcome aboard, Fred! This is the best bass forum on the web for learning the craft, at least in my opinion!
  10. Nice! Love Harry Potter!
  11. My favorites are Yo Zuri Hybrid in green, and P-Line Floroclear in mist green. They're inexpensive, and I've got a lot of yardage to use. Also have some pure fluorocarbon, but my trust level is not as high with it at this point. Maybe some day it will. All of this is used as leader material attached to braided mainline - all my setups.
  12. I don't weigh every fish. Just the ones I'm curious as to my guess, in addition to landing another personal best. But if I think the fish is over 3, I'll usually weigh it to compare my catch and size rates with other times I've caught fish in that range.
  13. This. The 50 is perfect for my hands, but I can totally get why it wouldn't be for folks with larger hands. In fact, the only reel I have in circulation that is "full size" is the Lexa, which is fine by me, though not as perfect as the 50e. My older Accurists are big and clunky by comparison.
  14. Welcome aboard!
  15. Hello Robert, welcome to the forums!
  16. My condolences. Very sad time.
  17. Short rods are great (IMO) for kayak fishing. I prefer them for how I fish; that said, since I have gone all Carbonlites, the shortest I can get in the actions I like is 6'6". A tad longer than I prefer, but I make it work!

    Welcome aboard, Big C!
