  1. Indeed, you are fortunate *something* is biting!!
  2. Such is the life of bass fisherfolk. We win some, we lose some, we keep hunting! Keep hunting!

    Welcome aboard!
  4. Norman Speed Clips. The trick is not to squeeze them, but put them on sideways. Easily opens the clips and allows you to motion them onto the lure. I never squeeze them anymore since I learned this trick.
  5. Welcome back!
  6. Cheer up, Hootie, the spawn in just around the corner!!
  7. The sizes you speak of are the head weights. For weighted wacky hooks, they're usually (in my experience), 1/0 or 2/0 size. I typically use ⅛ as a general weight, and I like 1/0 size for such. I'll go heavier in windy conditions. For weightless wacky hooks, I like from 2-2/0 in Gammy Split/Drop shot, or Gammy Wide-Gap finesse. Best prices will be from online shops...TW, etc.
  8. I think you'll love it. I am very impressed with it. Austin Kayak has a fantastic reputation, and I believe free shipping on most yaks, including the Lure. Other sites would include paddleva.com - Appomattox River Company which will also ship to you, also a stellar reputation, I bought from them locally. http://kayakfishinggear.comaka Hook1 is also good.
  9. Welcome aboard!
  10. Wow! Some big browns. Very cool, Jeff.
  11. Here I was expecting to see this: But yours is MUCH nicer!
  12. I would say Briery Creek, but only because it is listed as a top bass fishery by VGDIF. Never fished it myself, but know some who have.
  13. I was actually leery of jumping from 10 to 12 because I loved the maneuverability of the 10. However! I wanted to stand and fish more! So I went and tried several kayaks at a local shop and settled on a hybrid (the Native Ultimate) which is a cross between a yak and a canoe. Standing is not an issue, and the Ultimate is infinitely customizable. I have outfitted my rig with a trolling motor on the back, using my foot pedals as steering mechanisms (like the BassYaks kit). Today there are 10' models you can stand in, but when your gear grows in size (what you take with you), your yak gets awfully cramped.
  14. First, welcome aboard! If I were you, I'd opt for the 11.5' model. In fact, I'm very impressed with the Lure. Almost more than the Ride. But either one would make a great yak. I use a Native Ultimate 12 and love it. Went from a 10' yak to that one. I'd have no problem going to an 11.5, but would feel too cramped with a 10' these days. Your truck will be fine. I have a 6' bed and my 12' er sticks out but everything is good.
  15. Welcome aboard, and welcome back to the sport, Matt!
  16. Well done!! Since it was over 4 lbs, time to update the "My PB" under your avatar to "between 4-5 lbs"

    Welcome aboard, Barney!
  18. I can tell you they weren't in any mood to bite this afternoon. But I concur with your diagnosis/analysis, Catt!
  19. That should work great for a unit like the Garmin. I must've missed this during the ICAST coverage. Looks like an excellent battery pack.
  20. Welcome aboard!
  21. Welcome aboard!
  22. A great start to the fishing year!
  23. I like it! Looks fantastic!
  24. First, welcome aboard! On my two Quantum reels with flipping switches, when you flip the with, it allows you to engage the reel when you press the thumb bar, then when you release the thumb bar, it automatically goes back to a non-casting position. So it is used when flipping and pitching. Not sure that helps
  25. I've played with quite a few bait casting reels in-store, funny thing is (esp for me) is that I bought my Daiwa Lexa 100 sight unseen, and my two Shimano Chronarch 50e reels the same way. Though I did handle the 200 size Chronarchs. Both are very good reels, but in terms of quality and smoothness, the Chronarch 50e's are the best reels I own. They can be found online for near the higher end of your range. I know the Tatulas are getting a strong following, and Lew's has one, too. So "best reel" is clearly subjective.
