  1. Belated welcome, Anthony!
  2. They're on the bucket list for my sons and me! No experience other than what I've watched on TV.
  3. Hey Chad, welcome aboard!
  4. I never have problems with my 45 year old eyes, though sometimes reading glasses would be nice It is quite easy to tie Albrights or uni-to-uni leader knots with PP 10#. My leaders go up to 15# test.
  5. I use Shimano Stradic 1000FI reels for my bass spinning setups. Absolutely love them. I have caught numerous 6-7 pound bass on these, too. I spool all my spinning reels with 10 pound Power Pro, and always tie a leader. These are great reels, plenty of heft to bring in beasts stuck in salad, too. I used 4-8 pound copoly lines in the past on these. Braid is SO MUCH better to manage it isn't even a question in my mind now.
  6. Cool. Thanks. Look forward to the comparison. Hoping to get to BPS this week, but not sure I will be able to.
  7. Ok. Thanks, Torque. So would you say the lightness is about the same?
  8. Sounds great! I went out today to beat the winter storm (not so much a storm down here) since the barometric pressure was so low. But the northerly winds were not my friend. In fact, today was a skunk of a day!
  9. Any comparison between the black and white models? I've not gotten hands-on with the whites yet. Want to be armed when I go in to the store, LOL. So a ML 6'6" comparison a M 6'6" comparison, etc. among spinning and casting. If nobody's got a comparison, I'll try in the next week or two...or three.
  10. Welcome aboard!

  13. Welcome aboard, Brian!
  14. Welcome aboard! If you can't afford a scale yet, a good idea would be to have a tape measure of sorts - like the ones used in sewing - that you can get girth and length. Flexible for the girth. Or you could have a "rope" that you have pre-measured/marked that you can measure afterward. There is an estimate calculator here, and elsewhere on the web.
  15. Awesome bass! The kilo thing Has happened to me, too.
  16. We like skiing especially during the winter olympics. Yes, planning on watching the PB tonight! GO AFC!!
  17. I've watched a few times, got 4 boys, some of whom were remotely interested a year or so ago. This year, not so much. Entertaining stuff, though, we just prefer the NFL, and Premiere League soccer!!
  18. Welcome aboard, Matt!
  19. I guess it really depends. Some would argue there are excellent-sensitivity rods in the $100 range now such that you don't need to spend the higher dollar. Totally subjective, I realize. For me, I have an Avid, at $170, but I'm really not sold on its superiority over say, the BPS Carbonlite. Sure, components are better on the Avid, and the blank is, but to my hands, it never was an order of magnitude more sensitive. So for me and my hands, the Carbonlite is just fine for the jobs I assign them to. Wacky, TX, Mojo, Jika, Jigs, etc. I'm not saying a $200 rod is NOT more sensitive, but neither is it an absolute that it IS more sensitive. YOU are the final arbiter of what you feel when holding the rod.
  20. For me, lightness is a concern, so it is the Carbonlite series all the way. Whenever I visit BPS, I try to pick up rods to compare and ... just because. Never was a fan of the old hump grip, and to me, the Extremes were tip-heavy, as compared to the Carbonlites. But they're fine rods as everyone says. It is all about your preferences. Now I'm hearing really good things about the new white Carbonlites. And I'm not happy about it. Just means I might have to buy one. Sheesh.
  21. Goodness, you guys are finding some great deals! I was at DSJ a couple days ago, only some TechSpec rods on clearance, none of interest to me... However, for $7 I was able to land 3 BooYah jigs and a Strike King football jig, as well as a Dip n glo marker. Not bad savings
  22. Awesome fly! Hope you don't get snowed out! My youngest is in 5th grade. Doesn't like school, tho despite having an awesome male teacher. Some of my fondest school memories are of my 5th grade year. Mr. Jephson was very cool, interesting, and made learning fun. May your students say the same about you!
  23. Hiya Richard! Welcome aboard! Nice setup, btw!
  24. I thought about Palmettokayak's design, but I ended up building one more similar to the TrailTrekker. If I had the money, I'd buy one of his without question. They float, they disassemble easily, pack into your yak, etc. I built mine on a similar principle using washer hose from Home Depot, some 1/2" zinc coated rod for the axle, some 12" tires via Northern Tool, as well as a V for the hull of my boat at Northern Tool that slides onto the axle. Have some 1/2" PVC that covers the axle. Works like a champ.
