  1. Gorgeous! But yeah, handle on wrong side...
  2. Thus far, I'm no longer using a "mono" line. All my reels are spooled with braid mainline and I use a leader of (typically) copoly, which most of the time lately is Yo-Zuri Hybrid from 6-10lb test. For fluoro I use XPS in 8, 10, 12 lb tests but not that often. Would love to try some Tatsu, Sniper FC at some point, but money has me where I am now. It's all good.
  3. If I'm not mistaken, the Hamburg, PA store is the flagship Cabelas. Massive. 250,000 sq ft
  4. Cool! I've been up to the Richmond store several times. MUCH bigger than Hampton. Restaurant, two stories, etc.... Yeah, Hampton Roads is "too small a market", I suppose.... But I bet the BPS here does pretty darn good business.
  5. Welcome aboard!
  6. Hey, congrats, mate! Well done!
  7. Assuming you bought a spinning rod? If so, what is your price range, because there are plenty of reels to choose from... In the $100 range, I'd recommend a Daiwa Lexa 2000SH or a Shimano Symetre 1000. From there I'd go up to a Shimano Stradic 1000FJ. Throw some more details at us and that'll give us more info to go on.

  9. Don't remember which president was in office when my Dad got me into fishing. Probably Nixon. Bait du jour was a nightcrawler on a hook with a bobber attached. Bluegill were the main forage, but my Dad went for pickerel and such. I really got into bass in the 90's (some in the 80s), and then big time in the 2000's to where I am today. Oh, and I don't consider myself a natural. I had to really dig in and learn the craft - specifically the bass craft.
  10. I learned from roadwarrior's advice to rig them "straight" and "backwards" Texas style. Normally throw them weightless. Have had some success, and believe it or not, more with crappie than bass I think. Caught some 2 pound crappie on them. Don't throw much anymore, but hey, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
  11. My fav is TBD at this point. I've used a few in the past, but now I've got some of the FAT worms. I've only tried once and only with Pumpkin Punisher (I've got a few other colors) while shore fishing a small pond with a buddy. Caught 1 bass on it. So that was a success. Can't wait for the warmer weather and pre/spawn to try the rest out.
  12. Welcome aboard! Wow, 25 AND retire?! Dude!
  13. I'm pretty much a round bend guy. Was sold on them when a tournament fisherman helped me get setup one day years back. But since then, I've come to prefer O'Shaughnessy style hooks. Like the round bend, but not as "round". Call me picky, but it seems to me that I get better hookups with the O'Shaugnessy than I did with the round, or EWG, for that matter. I do have some EWG that I use, but not very often.

  15. Wow, I'll have to compare side by side again. The pictures I saw online comparing the two had the difference quite significant. But yes, the front end was probably the main thing. I don't have big hands, so the 50e is my fav, followed by the Lexa (of what I own).
  16. This is my opinion as well. I like small profile reels like the Chronarch 50e. My Lexa is a tad larger, but still easy to palm. The Tatula, while better, may be too large for your liking. But that entirely depends on what you like....
  17. Welcome aboard! Read up on the articles listed on this site. You will find a LOT of help and advice as most of us here have.
  18. Welcome aboard!
  19. <scratches head> Virginia, New York, Texas, Pennsylvania for sure. Pretty sure, but before my "real bassing days": States along the Gulf Coast...I think Louisiana, Mississippi... but not 100% sure. </scratches head>
  20. Wow, so many setups, so many opinions! My preference is a rod no longer than 6'6" as I do a lot of close-quarter fishing from the yak. And I get acceptable distance (acceptable to me) with that length. I use anything from ML-M casting with Shimano Chronarch 50e reels for weightless and weighted senko/knock-off wacky rigged mostly. On the spinning side, I've got MXF rods from 5'9" to 6'6" with Shimano Stradic 1000FI reels, and one Daiwa Lexa 2000SH. I don't really have technique-specific combos. Just combos that do whatever I need them to.
  21. Nice work, A-Jay! You do for dogs what we have done for snakes, LOL And my wife is ready for the zoo to close down so we can get back to "normal"...

  23. Come on down to the BPS in Hampton. Smallest store they've built. I discovered the same when I was looking at where stores were close to me. None - yet. But holy cow, the store in Phoenix is huge!
