You bet, Colin. I mentioned ACK since you're "not that far" and could take advantage of when they have demo days. You can get some quality time actually trying out different kayaks to find the one that most fits your style. That's really the best way to do things. We all have different brand affinities which does you no good because you are the only one who can decide what is right for you.

I was going to come back and mention the Procyon 2014 after seeing it is now available at TW. It wasn't a couple days ago. Very nice reels.

Actually, the name's Darren Kayak Fishing is how I fish. I have a Native Ultimate 12, rigged out with a Minn Kota trolling motor, steering controlled via feet. Kayak fishing is a blast, and well worth the time and effort especially if you don't have $$ for a boat (neither do I). Do a quick search here and you'll find a LOT of info from all us kayak fisherfolk. There are a lot of us on the forum. As well, we're all more than happy to help if you have any questions. I use hi-vis Power Pro (yellow, to be exact), and I always tie a leader on. When I used to go straight mono or copoly, I did try some hi-vis stuff. Never tied a leader on then, and I was mostly using smaller bait and caught plenty of crappie, panfish. They don't seem to mind the color at all. Bass, it is highly debated as to whether or not color matters.

Like Big Pond, I was able to handle these at Bass Pro a couple times in the past week. They're actually pretty decent rods for the money, much lighter than any before it. For me, personally, they are still too tip-heavy for my liking. I've been spoiled by the BPS CarbonLite rods. And I even got hands-on with the new Shimano Crucials and wasn't impressed. So hey, all of us have our own likes/dislikes when it comes to rods. The Ugly Stik Elites will no doubt make some very happy. They're definitely a departure from what they were in the past.

I've got a Braun Series 7 that's about 3 years old. Replaced the foil once. Works well. I also shave with a blade, depending on the day and the time I have I was reading of a new razor that's $300 and out this fall. Supposed to be new tech, closest electric shave ever. P-Line Floroclear is a copoly line that is coated with fluorocarbon. It has *some* benefits of pure fluoro. That said, it is a great line, IMO. There are plenty who have had bad experiences with it, and plenty of us who really like the line. Low-cost pure fluoro recommendations, like A-Jay said, are relative. But if I were to throw out some ideas to you, they'd be Red Label, Bass Pro XPS. For me, I need to keep the line baitmonkey off my back. I've got PLENTY of spools of P-Line floroclear and YoZuri Hybrid to last me years. Not to mention some XPS fluoro. All such lines for me last even longer because I use them as leaders only.

Tom, every time they go on sale at BPS, I consider buying one. The thing I don't like is the cost of playing the inflatable game. Yes, it is far more convenient, but for us kayakers, an "always ready" vest is really an awesome safety thing. That said, I understand fishing in the cold and the bulk. I sometimes feel like the Stay Puff Marshmallow man...

I don't use colored fluoro, but I use colored copoly. P-Line's mist green, and Yo-Zuri Hybrid green. P-Line's Floroclear mist green tends to blend better into the local water color - to my eyes. While YZH's green is a bit more visible. Both work great, though. I have plenty of luck with BPS XPS fluoro in clear, but vast majority of what I use is the green copoly blends. I've pondered buying some colored fluoro - some of the Sunline versions come in various colors. I see mostly good reviews...

I'm a tip-light guy. W/o any lures tied on. Similar to OE, I like my rod up maybe 45º from horizontal.

I remain skeptical. That's what bothers me about this -- the critical "proof" is never shown on TV. Things like this remind me of finding bigfoot shows. "That sound over yonder is a Squatch!" I'd like to see an unbiased underwater video of bass going nuts once the unit is turned on. Maybe Kim Stricker and his crew can do it... No wait, they're sponsored by Strke King, and so is KVD who has money at stake selling the Hydrowaves....

Probably Bass Pro given their greater choice of things I like - Stik-O worms, hooks, rods, etc. Sales there offer some great savings on these things.

I have 2 Carbonlites, one spinning, one casting. My first casting rod broke due to one of our young knuckleheaded labs stepping on it, LOL. I simply had it retipped by a rod builder. While I was in my local BPS, I told my friend, who is also the fishing manager, and he told me that I should bring it in and get a new one. I replied that it was my fault the tip broke and he said it didn't matter because they are warrantied for *anything* in the first year. If you don't like the color, return it. So I did and they asked no questions. I exchanged the 6'6" M for a 6'6" ML. It's been awesome! BPS also now sells 2 and 3 year warranties for these...

I fish because I like the hobby, not for any sort of competition whatsoever. It is about being outside and being rewarded for my efforts with a fish on the end of my line.

Oh it definitely takes time, practice. I still have "issues" depending on the bait I'm using, the wind, other factors that affect us kayak fisherfolk more than others. The more you do it, the better you get. I do it just enough to be decent at it. Not great.
