Wacky rig hook
Have had great success with Gamakatsu Split/Drop shot hooks from 4 to 2/0, with 1 and 1/0 the sweet spot for me. Also use the Wide Gap Finesse in same range. Have tried Hyabusa from TW, while sharp, found the muscle models to break. Tried other brands, always seem to return to Gammy.

Turning the page
Tom, You've been a stalwart here, freely offering your wealth of experience and advice. Thanks for all you've contributed. I've been the better for it. As a father of four sons, I can't imagine losing one. Though I have feared it. Please accept my sincerest condolences and hopes for brighter days to come once the clouds of grief become less ... though they'll never be gone. Darren

Spinning Rod/Reel
Yes. There is no reason you have to use a baitcaster to fish whether it is for bass or tuna. A spinning reel can do everything. Is it always the best tool for the job? No, probably not. I've written this before, but I set out a number of years ago to fish nothing but baitcasters. Became quite good at casting even really light stuff. Was figuring out how to skip, but never quite got it for most baits. One day the light turned on in my head, reality set in, and I decided casting wasn't the end-all I thought it could be. Today I use spinning for 95-98% of fishing. In fact I use 1000 size reels and short rods (6'6") and under for everything, including saltwater (striper, etc.). Still enjoy casting, but it's just not the main thing I do.

Noobie baitcaster
Welcome aboard! One of my sons just bought this combo at Dick's. We got it dialed in nicely, casts very well, and he's broken it in with several bass already. https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/daiwa-procaster-baitcasting-combo-19daiuprcstrlhbc7com/19daiuprcstrlhbc7com Be aware, reel brands become arguments bordering religious. Shimano, Daiwa, Lews, etc..... I went with Shimano years ago, also had a Daiwa which I gave to another son. Been very pleased with all. Only one I hated, and returned, was a Bass Pro combo which was impossible to dial in, LOL. Everyone is different, enjoy whatever brand you buy.
