With that rod I fish the Ned rig, wacky rigs with 4" worms, mojo, lighter Texas rigs, etc. Probably Ned the most followed by wacky rigging. And @J Francho is right, the ML St. Croix will have plenty of strength for a big bass.

I've got the 1 piece version of that rod paired with a Stradic 1000 CI4+ and it's possibly my favorite setup for bass and anything else that will bite . I did happen to purposefully shorten the rod to 5'9" as I like its versatility and balance. Just a thing with me preferring short rods. Not that 6' isn't great.

I have a number of Stradic 1000s including the FL. They're on a plethora of different rods from ML to M power in fast to XF tips. I like tip-light rods, so feel the shorter rods are better balanced, except for the Bass Pro Carbonlites in 6'6". Now I have cut down the butt end of one making the it 6'3", but the other is 6'6" and balances well with the 1000 Stradic. My 1000 CI4+ is paired with a 6' St. Croix Premier that I have shortened to 5'9". It was fine balance at 6', but I shortened it purposefully. Hope this info is helpful to some extent. Good luck!

Hi @Matt Phagan, and welcome to the forums! This thread was quiet for a while until January of this year. If no one answers, your best bet is to fish the pond, so long as fishing is allowed there. You can call the middle school and see if it's ok, assuming they have staff there during the COVID 19 pandemic. We've got ponds up here in Yorktown that are in the Nat. Park service and off limits for fishing, despite it being a public place.

Welcome aboard! With that combo you can do plenty of things. Try wacky rigged worms (lots of info in the forum) in natural colors (like watermelon, green pumpkin, black, browns, etc.) 4" and 5" rigged with wacky hook perpendicular through the worm mid-way. Cast near docks, downed trees, bushes over hanging the water, etc. Fish it slowly. Cast it out and let it sink. Be patient. The worm will shimmy down the water column. Hang on and set the hook!
