Welcome aboard! Good luck with your quest. Plenty of answers thus far. Personally, starting out, I'd stick to spinning gear and add casting later if you think you really need it. Spinning is easy, less headaches, and can do most everything you need. Casting can be fun, can make you learn new four-letter words when you have a professional over- run (birds nest), etc. I do both, mostly spinning, though.

Lost my job, as well. Web sites I ran for 17+ years...owner retired, shut them down at end of Feb. Virus a concern; that and subscription issues weighed in shutdown. Sucks. 50 years old, no response from any application. Can't get unemployment because I was 1099/self-employed. Wife a nurse, but we still have 4 boys, a lot of expenses, etc. She can't carry us alone. Tough times. We'll make it through. Hopefully politicians get heads out of their ... nether regions and come up with a relief that helps all of us.

Interesting that you're breaking the Shroomz hooks! I like them in the weedless version and haven't found the weed guards to be too stiff. I use them on 6, 8, and 10# leaders, drag set to zing a tad when I set the hook.

Indeed. And there was much rejoicing in the land. All the big money is on 1) Tampa Bay and 2) Chargers. We'll know soon enough. He's got maybe 2 good years left. Me? I'm happy Bills landed Diggs, a proven #1 receiver. A little steep all the draft picks, but hey, he's got skills.

Welcome aboard! I use yellow Power Pro regular and Super Slick 8 on all my reels and use a leader. Yellow braid helps so much for visibility, and the leader gets cut several times before I have to cut in to the braid mainline, saving me $$ .

Welcome to the forums! Your arsenal looks good. I would suggest with the soft plastic rigs, the TX and Wacky, that you fish slowly. I mostly fish soft plastics. Let the wacky worm do its thing as it shimmies down the water column. If windy, consider using a weighted wacky jig. When you think you're fishing slow enough, slow down some more. Fish downed trees, humps, docks, etc. If you can get (or already have) a terrain map of where you fish, you can get an idea of where there are ledges, humps, etc. Or use a fish finder. Good luck!!

Wait, you guys aren't able to get this? There's a sort of balance thing that happens with the double handle. I really like it on the Spirex. Almost like a centrifugal force thing going on with a double.

Welcome aboard! Sweet lake. We've vacationed there several times and plan to in the future. As far as mechanic stuff, there's a lot of repair for boats and jet skis in the area that I've seen. Perhaps that's something you can look into.... And might consider hiring a guide at least once to get a general idea of the lake. It's big, lots of boats, lots of bass, perch, catfish, sunfish....

Yeah, that's why I put "affordable" in quotes, LOL. I've had the Gomexus model in my wish list on Amazon for about a year now. Some day I hope to pull the trigger and get one.

All in what you like/how something feels to you. I personally prefer the paddle knobs on my spinning reels. That said, if I had the money right now, I'd opt for a double handle with paddles! love how the double handles work on spinning reels.
