  1. Welcome to the forums, Garnet!
  2. Aaaand welcome to the forums!
  3. And there's Wilcox Bait and Tackle in Newport News. They do a ton of fishing, I rarely go there, but the've got a good reputation as far as I know. As for reel repairs, when I check their web site "repairs" were for hunting gear....
  4. I know that BPS will clean reels, but I don't know the quality of repair. Obviously DVT has a great reputation. Bishop's down in lower Yorktown (above rte 64, on route 17) builds his own rods, and I'm pretty sure repairs/cleans reels as well. He's done splendid rod repairs for me. Vast majority of his work is for salt water gear, but he easily handles freshwater as well. Also believe Grafton Fishing Supply repairs/tunes reels. Last time I was there I noticed a sign that they clean/repair reels. They're further up route 17 just below the Denbigh Blvd crossing (across from the Farm Fresh). Also predominately salt water, but does both.
  5. I'll just welcome you to the forums! Others will answer this oft-asked question (but that's just fine).

Android is "open" source...kindof and not really totally, entirely open... http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/10/googles-iron-grip-on-android-controlling-open-source-by-any-means-necessary/ Fragmentation hurts Android more than iOS because every Android phone manufacturer can tweak/customize the source to their delight. Break the Android grip via something like Cyanogenmod (awesome), you break warranty (assuming you're in contract). Likewise with jailbreaking iPhone. As well, say you have an HTC phone on Verizon... Google releases new version of Android, but your HTC on Verizon won't see new version IF and UNTIL HTC has tested it, and then Verizon has to test it to make sure it will maintain user experience on their network. The only way around it is to opt for a Google Nexus phone which will get updates as Google releases them.

You must. Which means you also must be super-human. Because Lebron is super-human.

Nice! But time for a new PB in 2014!!

iPhone 5 is an excellent smartphone. Add to it a nice waterproof case like a Lifeproof nuud or fre and you'll be safe. There are other, good waterproof cases though, just mentioning the Lifeproof since I own one. I have much invested in the Apple platform as for games and apps, the platform of which, in my experience really does work best (used to be an Android user). So I have not switched back to Android, although I've eyed the larger screen phones. But I'll wait for Apple to release a large-screen iPhone later this year (hopefully). The iPhone 5 series (and 4) are perfect for single hand operation. But if you have hands the size of LeBron James, then you should be able to operate the massive Galaxy Note with one hand. To each his/her own.
  10. I've used both, and hands-down prefer P-Line Floroclear's handling and otherwise, solid performance. But take this into consideration, I only use the lines for leader material tied to a braid mainline. I didn't like the way any mono or copoly behaved as a mainline, hence switching to braid for both spinning and bait casting. Thus, line behaves differently as a leader - there is only a small amount tied on.... I'm not saying Red Label is a bad line, it is just that I like Floroclear better. And for pure fluorocarbon, I now use XPS brand.
  11. Bass Pro branded yaks are pretty decent for the money. Complaints have been that they're a thinner pour, hence denting and such. I considered one when I was in the market -- before I bought my Native Ultimate 12. And definitely try to sit in the yak (in-store) if you can't get it on the water to demo it. That said, the recent models are much thicker based on my hands-on, and better. That paid a big part in me choosing the U12 over the Native Commander (darn fine boat, tho), and other models. And if I were in the buying market today, I'd also take a long hard look at a Native Slayer, and anything Hobie (once I win the lottery). But as for the BPS models, 12' is great. I started with a 10, and it was awesome. I bought the U12 as there wasn't a shorter model, and I've not been disappointed whatsoever. Obviously the 10 will be lighter, and will be easier to maneuver. And for fishing, it is my opinion that a sit on top is the way to go. For me, a hybrid (like my Native Ultimate) was the way to go, but that's not for everyone.
  12. Welcome aboard, Chet. Not a lure maker myself, but plenty of folks here do so.
  13. He's a good guy, like his site, too.
  14. I would be fine, IMO. There are positives to using pure FC, but it is not absolutely 100% necessary... Plenty of folks use YZH for everything.
  15. FWIW, did a quick Google of the site and it looks like a little "gem" of a small lake. http://www.pierandsurf.com/fishing-forum/showthread.php?61170-Oak-Grove-lake-park-3-8 Though from 2009, still sounds like a potentially great fishery. I'd say visit and see what diamonds lay beneath the waves!
  16. No idea, sorry to say. I only fish the Peninsula side of Hampton Roads. Lots of folks here who fish the South Side who could, possibly, give you some insight to that body of water.
  17. Welcome aboard, Brigham!
  18. Hey, it's all good. Wear it if you want to. I'm another guy who wears stuff based not on sponsorship, but on utility. Hence wearing sun-blocking shirts with plenty of ventilation (in the warmer months)... If that shirt happens to have a Shimano, Columbia, Bass Pro, Daiwa, etc., logo on it, then so be it. My hats are usually Adidas, St. Croix, or XPS.... 6 and 1 half dozen the other.
  19. Welcome aboard, Dylan!
  20. I use it for leader material only, but it is always in competition with P-Line Floroclear, and I've added pure fluoro to the mix. I will use them interchangeably. I am not certain pure FC is necessary over the copoly lines. Different strokes for different folks. YZH is inexpensive and good quality line.
  21. It's all good, Dave, welcome aboard!
  22. Dadgum NBCSports TV. I totally and 100% agree with MarkH024. WAAAAAY too many hunting shows, and not enough fishing shows. I mean come on, you dumped Larry Dahlberg, Shaw Grigsby, and countless others and kept Charlie Moore's "show"? I'm glad Lunkerville is there. Relief at hand.
  23. Hi Kyle, welcome aboard!
  24. You are not nuts. But it is an economics question -- from the manufacturers perspective. At least that's how I see it.
