Help... I Think My Dog Ate A Jig.
Glad your pup's all good!! We've got 3 dogs, a cat, 10 snakes (and a clutch of eggs), water turtles, russian tortoises, and a big ol' monitor lizard. Not to mention the rats and mice we raise. Anyhow, point being, we can control what most of the critters eat, but the dogs...that's another matter entirely. Just last night I had to stop the pup from eating the top of a prickly cactus. A jig would be a nightmare scenario. I've found the pup chewing on a hook that fell to the floor. As far as finding the jig, do you have or can borrow a metal detector?

Big Fish!! Wrong Species..
Good haul. I agree with Snook, all's good in recreational fishing. While of course I target bass, I mostly welcome anything that takes a hook.

Could You... One Rod/reel?
I could definitely do it. I'd have to choose between my Chronarch 50e + 6' M combo on which I can throw nearly every soft plastic I use (weightless), or one of my spinning setups. Probably give the nod to my 5'9" Compre/Stradic 1000FI combo for my do-it-all setup.

Wondering How Many Soccer Fans We Got...
Score! I'm a fan, "somewhat new" to English football, I watch it often now-a-days. Was a big NASL fan back in the day. Cosmos were my team. For English futbol, Man U fan for the most part, but love the talent across the league.

Cut The Hook Or Remove It
I try to get the hook out. If I cannot without significant damage, I will cut the line and hope for the best. What I'd like to do is get a long pair of needle nose pliers so I can mash the barb if it is in the throat, then remove it with less damage. Most of the time I can remove hooks without issue, though.

Time To Respool A Reel, Looking For Opinions
You can certainly do that. But the fact you already have a PP spooled reel, you can buy several spools of ... whatever ... and tie on a leader length of each to experiment. Cheaper to tie on leaders than to respool an entire reel. Again, IMO. So for finesse applications, I use 10lb PP and leaders anywhere from 6 to 15 pounds. Anything from pure fluoro to copoly lines. Tie on 4, 6, 8, 10, 20, 30 feet of a leader if you want. I think you'll find it the best of all worlds.

Hey wow, that's pretty nice stuff!

Drop Shot Rod
I like an XF Medium rod for fishing soft plastics. This is what I've used for drop shotting, works very well. As well, one rod manufacturers' Medium is anothers' MH (St. Croix). So if you can get your hands on the rod first, have someone at the other end hold the tip as you lift so you can feel the action. A lot of retailers will let you bring your reel in and test it out on various rods to see how the balance is.

Lake Smith Bass Fishing (Virginia Beach)
Hey, welcome to the forums, fellow Virginian! Stop by the Introductions forum and say hi. Unfortunately I never fish down on the the South Side, so can't be of help there. But there are a number of forum members who probably can help you out there.

Time To Respool A Reel, Looking For Opinions
Count me among the 10lb braid crew. I use 10lb braid mainline on all my spinning gear and can use any type of leader depending on the conditions. You can use short leaders, or long leaders (Gary Yamamoto uses long leaders on his spinning gear). IMHO, best of all worlds that gives you a great variety to fish. Go super light leader of 2lb test up to 20lb or whatever. 10 lb braid is very strong, supple, no memory or line management issues to speak of. 10lb PowerPro has diameter of 2lb mono, so you can get a lot of it spooled up on UL, L, and M sized reels. Try the original PowerPro, or the new PowerPro Slick 8 which a lot of folks really like. And learn to tie a good leader knot and you'll never worry about breakage. I use the Albright normally, sometimes Uni-to-Uni. I am 100% confident in my knots. Never a worry that they're the weak point in the link. Caught my PB in thick slop using 10lb braid + leader!
