  1. I've got a nice convertible that I barely drove last summer because all my rods are 7' one piece, so I drove my truck pretty much every day to hit the pond at lunch and after work. I think this year, I would like to find a 2-pc rod I can keep in the trunk of the car so I can drive it and still fish. It doesn't have to be a pricey rod. I'm thinking like a 6'6" MH Ugly Stik or comparable, with a comparably priced reel. Anybody got any suggestions on other 2-pc rods in that price range and quality? THanks, DAve
  2. I've been using 12# SpiderWire XXX SuperMono on my 2500 series reels for about 2 seasons now and very rarely have any problems. I love the stuff. However, YMMV.
  3. Hi all. Im pretty around here. I fish mostly in Southern Maryland, but may get on the Upper Potomac this year. Anybody else around here in SoMD? Last Sunday, I couldn't resist the itch anymore and hit the only one of the 4 ponds that wasn't frozen over on the local base. For the first time ever, my "one last cast before leaving" paid off with a 5 pounder. They are biting, albeit not often enough, if you can get out there. Dave
  4. I've seen references on here to frog rods, and the HEAVY lines most use on them. But I don't know anything about the topic, other than, presumably, it's used to fish frog lures with. Can someone please tell me what a frog rod is, how it's different from any other rod (if it is), how it's used, and why you would need 50-60 lb braid line for it? Thanks, Dave
  5. I can't talk to the Sol, but I absolutely love my 2500 CI4. Married up to a St. Croix Avid, the whole thing weighs less that some reels I've owned. I feel like I can fish this all day without getting worn out.
  6. Last summer I bought a BPS 10' Pond Prowler. It's 48" wide, has two raised seats like the Pelican pictured above, and weighs about 110#. It fits great in the back of my pickup truck, and probably would your van if you can haul 4x8 plywood. Weight capacity with gear is something like 600 pounds. It will easily hold two adults comfortably, sitting or standing. I only use it on a couple local small electric only ponds, and it's great. Highly recommend for what I understand you to be talking about. Dave
