  1. When you use a weighted hook for these, where do you hook them (near the legs or on the opposite end)? Is the hook exposed or do you use the weighted hook like a texas rig? Also, what type of weighted hook are you using? Any help would be appreciated.
  2. I thought it'd be interesting to hear what everyone's favorite jig is. Include brand, size, color, and the trailer you prefer to use with that particular jig.
  3. Strike King Series 3 in Sexy Ghost Minnow
  4. If you use these with a texas rig do you typically use a bullet weight with them, and if so, what size and brand hook do you prefer and what size bullet weight?
  5. I also saw a package of these at Walmart on clearance at the beginning of the season and they were at an extremely low price which also made me skeptical. I have thrown them a couple times with no luck but went out this past weekend and didn't have success with anything for a few hours and decided to put one of these on. They were pre-rigged and I continuously slowly reeled it in around a weeded area. I was getting frustrated because with the exposed hook I was bringing in weeds with every cast. The one time didn't get any weeds I got a real nice 4 lb. largemouth to come out of the weeds and absolutely swallow the lure. I will certainly be using these a bit more often and they are quickly becoming my favorite swimbait after more success yesterday morning.
  6. I really wouldn't bother with super glue. I'd simply buy a new frog. Was it a pike that ripped the frog or an aggressive bass?
  7. What Mepps spinners have everyone had success with for bass? Any preference for smallmouth or largemouth? There are such a wide variety of colors and styles, interested to hear what people have used with success for bass.

I caught 4 smallmouth in an hour today on a Strike King Series 3 crankbait in Sexy Ghost Minnow at the local river. It is quickly becoming my new favorite...
  9. I absolutely love this lure and have had a lot of luck with it for both smallies and largemouths. The smallies on the local river seem to really like this lure. Simple twitches will allow it to walk and I let it sit for quite some time of calm days. The explosions usually happen when the lure is sitting still. Best of luck!
  10. I agree with everyone that you should fish them as slowly as possible. I use Cavitrons and they are the slowest buzzbait and don't really need you to focus on how slow you reel them in. I'd highly recommend trying them out.
  11. I haven't had any success with this lure yet either. I've fished it a wide variety of ways, fast as a wake bait, as slow as I possibly can, and with sudden jerks and suspension like a jerkbait, and haven't had a bite as of yet. It does look very real in the water, maybe too real...?
  12. I've been having luck the past 2 weeks with buzzbaits and jerkbaits. I also got a few wacky rigging a senko. Anyone else having any luck?
  13. I have also had great success with this jerkbait and prefer it when choosing to fish this technique.
  14. How has everybody been doing so far this year in Upstate New York? What's been working and where have you had success?
  15. I agree, I've had a lot of luck with my black Cavitron buzzbait.
  16. Does Lake Lonely still do the Tuesday night fishing contests? I was reading a post on another site from a few years back that stated it was $15 to enter the contest and that included a boat rental. I guess they used to have Tuesday night one man bass fishing contests, biggest fish takes the pot. Anyone know if they still do this?
  17. I recently purchased the new Rapala Clackin' Rap and fished it for a few hours for the first time this past weekend. I didn't catch anything but did see 3 fish following the lure back to the boat. I was fishing this bait, just as they suggest on the Rapala commercials they have on the Internet to promote this lure, bouncing it off cover and the rocky lake bottom. As I returned home after my fishing trip I noticed that the entire front and bottom of the brand new lure was all scratched up and the paint was gone. Is this typical and is there anything I can do to fix this? I really like the action on this lure and for $10 I expect more than just one trip out of it...
  18. Has anybody ever fished Lake Lonely in Saratoga County or Mayfield Lake in Fulton County? I was reading an article from ESPN outdoors from a few years ago that said the smallmouth fishing in both of these lakes is outstanding. However, I am trying to figure out if there are public boat launches at either of these lakes, I couldn't find anything with searches on the Internet. Anyone know?
  19. I don't think either of the techniques used with these baits will be too difficult to learn and master. The Fat Ika is fished much like any other plastic, including a senko, and the crankbaits can be fished like many of the other hardbaits you probably already fish. You don't live too far from me and assuming you are fishing a lot of the same waters I would recommend both of these techniques in your arsenal. I have been very successful with both of them the past few years.
  20. I'm in!
  21. I agree that the colors don't really seem to matter. I have caught fish using a wide variety of weight colors. My question is what brand weight is most commonly used for texas rigging?
  22. Upstate New York in the Adirondack Mountains
  23. I live in Gloversville, so I'm well aware of the various access points on Route 5s. We usually put the boat in at Duffel's Farm. We've had a lot of luck between Amsterdam and Fonda.
  24. I'm going to go old school and two lures that have lost a lot of popularity with all the new baits that have been released the last few years. The Hula Popper and Jitterbug are two of the original topwater baits that still produce for me very often.
  25. Thanks for the coupon code! Does anyone know how Gander Mountain ships? Do they use the Postal Service, UPS, Fed-Ex? I couldn't find it anywhere on their site on anywhere else online. Anyone order from them before? How do they ship? Thanks for your help.
