  1. That is an awesome question.. I never thought of that! I hope someone has the answer... lol
  2. More than a few of them! Apparently he usually eats 2 thirds of them! Makes you wonder how many really survive.
  3. They guard the eggs/fry for up to (and possibly over) 3 weeks time. Rick3499 there are plenty of ways to get a bass to hit on a bed. They will defend against anything that looks like a predator.. this could be plastic worms, crayfish, jigs.. even spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. Just put it on their nest and make them think it's gonna eat their eggs. Bright colors are even more offensive to them and seem to work better.
  4. fivebasslimit... I'm with you. Metallica kicks. Old or new. I've always got it blaring when I'm trout fishing or still fishing.. otherwise it just gets too boring. But bass fishing I can usually do without music. Occasionally we will bring a little radio on the boat though.
  5. lol squid! Personally, a 10lber would be quite the experience for me! It would be cutting it close to the Ontario record too!
  6. Haha my friend and I bring a whole smorgasboard of food when we're on the water (not in tournaments). Sometimes we even fry up a few fish on the shoreline (never bass!). I have trademark triple decker sandwiches called "Simswiches" that a lot of anglers in the area are addicted to! lol Chef Sims is in the house! ;D
  7. Wow what a couple of pigs!! Awesome fish Hawghunter, congrats!
  8. Sounds to me like a yellow perch.
  9. That is really too bad. It has happened to me as well. Turned around for just a second and boom they got a tackle box and 2 ultra light combos. Dirty little thiefs.. maybe you'll get lucky and they'll get caught in the act next time by someone else - preferrably an ex professional wrestler!
  10. HAHA I have heard that one before but it still makes me laugh everytime! ;D
  11. It depends on what the lake looks like. I can get a general feel for the lake and a rough idea of what to throw by checking out what types of structure/cover the lake has to offer and the depths as well as water colour. IE if it's a shallow, muddy, weedy lake - a spinnerbait will probably do very well. Deep, rocky, clear lake a senko or small crankbait may be better. BUT if I had to choose 3 lures to find fish in a new lake, it would be 1) spinnerbait, 2) 3" plastic grub 3) Senko
  12. Well I hope you aren't eating fish out of that pond!
  13. Yes, it should be counted. Period.
  14. Think about it, that bass is in shallow water near bottom and hasn't been eating much. He sees a spinnerbait go over his head, how many chances at a meal that big does he get during the day? So he takes the opportunity and smacks your bait. I bet if he short struck and you threw it back at him, he wouldn't be interested.
  15. Not to stir the pot D. Taylor but sometimes you need to limit yourself to only a few baits to better yourself with those lures and master them or so to speak. After you've mastered a lure and gained confidence in it, you can go out just about anytime and get bites on it.
  16. Spinnerbait (1/2oz, white, tandem), jig (1/4oz Black/Blue) and a Fat A crankbait.
  17. Buy a Kastmaster jigging spoon, and throw traditional bass knowledge away. Catching big bass on a quarry is like jigging for walleye. Fish deep with spoons, grubs or tubes or topwater in the early morning.
  18. I have yet to see a quarry pond without at least some bass in it. Go there early in the morning, or late in the afternoon, and fish a topwater or in line spinner. If theres bass you should eventually get one. If you go during the day time, chuck a 3 inch grub around on a 1/4oz jig head.
  19. Everyone else's suggestions are good I just have to add In-Line spinners!! I have not found a more productive lure for shallow rivers. Best part is they will catch more than just bass. ;D
  20. Geeze fishing Lake Erie I've caught one of everything! lol - Carp, Catfish, Gar, Pike, Musky, Sheephead, Walleye, Perch, Rock Bass, Bluegill (on a Hula Popper once), brown trout, chinook salmon and even bowfin (not on Lake Erie). Non - Fish - Snapping Turtle, Condom lol, Wallet, a bumper of an old F-150, a few tires, a shoe, underwear, and once I got a sheephead that actually had two jointed Rapalas stuck in either side of his mouth! That was quite a lucky fish to catch lol. Oh and in Florida I accidentally snagged a little gator foot, luckily with only a small bare hook. He decided to keep the hook.
  21. I know people in the states that start as soon as the ice is gone. Just gotta fish real slow and work for your fish. You'll get less bites but probably bigger fish.
  22. abelfisher, that is so true on so many days... I wonder WHY! ???
  23. I've honestly never done it myself, but a good friend of mine trolls lake erie for smallies on a fairly regular basis. He uses only crankbaits - I believe the Shad Rap is a favourite. No downriggers needed, just look for humps, drop offs, weed edges etc and troll along or above them at a slow pace til a fish hits. Not much skill involved with trolling for a bass... thats probably why I don't do it.
  24. First upload your photo to a host like http://www.myfishingpictures.com then link to it in your profile options. PS Glad to see you here Aric maybe I'll see you at the Rondeau tourney! ;D
  25. For the biggest fish on your pond/lake/river, remember the biggest ones choose the best structure. This usually means the most obvious structure that everyone has fished. Does that mean there's no fish there?? NO! Just find a way to fish it different than everyone else, and you might hook yourself a trophy of a lifetime.
