Advice needed on first baitcasting set-up
I have been throwing a BPS pro qualifier for about 9 mos. my first one. I love it. I have used my fishing buddies citica which is great....if you know how to throw...opening the reel to make adjustments in the beginning will become frustrating. Granted once you get it down you should be able to make adjustments on the spool tension dial. but you'll be doing the centrifugal dance for a minute. I found that the centrifugal and magnetic combo on the P.Q. to be easier to use. Again I love the citica my buddy has...just not when i first started. Don't waste your money on really good line yet either...you'll be eating up line for a little while.

Favorite bait in heavy hydrilla/milfoil at high noon
hey...this is a great topic guys...I am landlocked and my little ponds become FULL of weeds..great info.. I usually stick to a frog but will try some of the presentations mentioned here...i really like the sound of the GYCB creature rigged backwards...this sounds deadly....what about getting wacky rigs through it??

Favorite topwater frog?
#1 madd maxx in busta slime(black and red) #2 scum frog little bigfoot ....as far as missing hooksets..i had to break down and spool up some braid 65 pd.....my hook up percentage went way up...like double...just try it I was way skeptical because I didn't want to dedicate a set up for just frog fishing...but after breaking down going to 7ft med hvy with the braid really made a differrence...thnks greentop

Gimme some input
I'm currently using a pro qualifier 6'6 med power fast action. I looked online on performing a backbone vs tip check and it is where most mh are as far as taper at med power. I've only had it a week and maybe a couple of those misses weren't the rods fault... :)

Gimme some input
You guys are great..thanks again. I think I get caught in the numbers too much I just notice alot of MH start at 3/8 for lightest bait and like I said I'm usually not that heavy. But...also bank fishing..med hvy would do better on those longer hookset right?

Gimme some input
Med or Med Hvy? What I plan to fish with it Rattle traps(rarely) spinnerbaits(rarely) topwater(alot chug bugs, buzzbaits worms and plastics(75 percent of the time) most of my baits are in the 1/4 -5/8 at the heaviest. I am bank fishing 95percent of the time max depth 13ft. I like the feel of medium but don't wanna cut myself short on power...hmmmmm..and med heavy is a bad topwater rod right?? I don't know...... :-/ :-/

Good Small topwaters
Good intel fellas..I actually picked up a baby chug bug and i love it. speaking of spooks...i must fish em wrong..do strikes come on the walk or the stop? what prey does walk the dog mimic? I ve never had ANY luck on spooks...but never fished a small one. just the larger..and i think it may have been too large in comparison to forage..anyone like the spittin image..its crazy...you can walk the dog...pop it..if you give it a small sweep it skitters on top spitting the whole way... i like it

Good Small topwaters
Other than popper please....I know...I know...popper...

My first fish on a fluke.
Use a sweep instead of a snap..keeping line somewhat taut and you'll feel that bump...don't be afraid to let that thing sink back down as they usually hammer it as it does a dying minnow effect..I fish mine on spinning gear with 8 lb test..watermelon seed, albino, smokin shad rigged on a 3/0 gamakatsu ewg...awesome bait...if they don't bite that...theres no fish there..

Sensitive subject
So check it out....we go back out...bucket of minnas...I say man..gimme a minna...I have a whole new respect for it..I missed more fish than I ever have on an artificial and I'm not a treble bait fisherman. worms and jigs so I know how to set the hook...lol...it was actually frustrating.....maybe I'll keep a little quieter about his live bait tactic..lol..thanks for the responses on the subject..I have a feeling regardless of what we are fishing it'll be a great season

Sensitive subject
Today I had a somewhat heated discussion with a fishing buddy during a trip...now..I am not opposed fishing live bait sometimes..I have a 9 yr old and he'd much rather let a minnow do the work...understanable. being the competitive natured person I am I took offense to his smug attitude about catching bigger fish on minnows...me on the other hand struggled to find a bait that consistently caught fish. I tried to explain that part of the experience is to learn the pattern of the condition and exploit it. this to me is where I find enjoyment. Does anyone share my feelings or should I just throw a bobber and minna and shut up?? lol

You can only bring two
Good point Jason...lose his lures...they're free..
-
You can only bring two
Nice....the yo zuri hybrid a nice line for baitcasting?
-
You can only bring two
Lets say hypothetically you could only take out one spinning set up and one casting..what would it be? line size? rod length? Don't say depends on where I'm fishing...KVD pulls up says grab a spinner and a caster....which 2 you gettin??

Please help with a selection
I really appreciate all the advice. I know the breaking rod thing seems extreme I have broken 2 during transport and a couple of the shimanos were the 24.99 sojourn....so yeah..I know...I am going to hold off on spending and give this vengeance a good shot. Again I thank all of you.

Please help with a selection
OK guys....heres the deal...I am having a hell of a time finding a decent priced(50-80) range casting rod that offers the sensitivity I am looking for..the rundown. I initially purchashed a shimano converge it broke..and I'm not a fan of shimano rods anyway..I've had 4 of different models break. From there I went to gander mt and got one of their line of rods...broke twice...then a berkley lightning rod a buddy gave me..but the guides are cheap and thin causing a squeal during casting..so now I have an abu vengeance and i'm still "looking". Now...qm I just being a pain in the a$$ and need to pony up? Is there not a rod in this price range that can give me bottom composition feeling, vibration feedback on cranks...I see the bionic blade is 59 this weekend at bps. Anyone got any ideas or experience in this matter? Any brutally honest feedback is appreciated :-/ :-/

Am I the only angler here who uses ONLY spinning gear?
I love spinning gear as well but just got first baitcaster at christmas...to be honest I have forced it into my routine to become a better heavy bait/moving bait fisherman, but I mostly finesse my bass as I am a land locked fisherman...I will say that the accuracy of a baitcaster could be deadly in the right hands..its accounted for fish I probably wouldn't of gotten to without repeated attempts with spinnig gear...hard to explain but the ability to "zip" a bait in cover with little effort is pleasing. I hear if I upgrade to the world of curado or revo I could put spinning gear down as these reels are supposed to do better with lighter weights.
