  4. not to mention the amount of mileage you can put on them. My family has owned a towing company in Florida since 1947 and we have had gas trucks and diesels and you can put(if taken care of) on the new ones 500-600,000 miles and the older ones 1,000,000 miles is not uncommon.
  5. True dat on the 4x4 turning radius they all suck, and they hurt gas mileage, which in my mind is the biggest wallet buster. They do? My F-150 has a smaller turning radius than my Nissan Altima. And it's about 3 times as big. You want to tow with a 4WD (or 2WD for that matter) truck and you're concerned about gas mileage? That's an oxymoron. The two don't compute. Towing = low gas mileage. Solution = don't tow and buy a Nissan! Im sorry and I dont mean to sound rude but I dont understand what your saying, the 4x4 does have a larger turn radius than the 2wd, and about the fuel mileage, any avid fisherman with a normal job in this economy who has to put gas in a boat and the truck thinks about fuel mileage as he was asking for an opinion on the 2 trucks being able to tow is boat. As for me I will never own a nissan, toyota,or honda so I will only buy from the big 3.

  12. Why a hemi? it still doesnt make sense, the hemi gets 15mpg 10 towing when you can pay 5 grand more and get it with the diesel which get up to 25mpg and has twice the power 500hp 600lbs torque but back to his question I am a little suprise you being from detroit would considering a chevy and not a ford but I say either is a good choice. The siverado with the 5.3 or 6.0 are both good and strong and the 09 ford with either the 6.4 or the 5.4 are good choices. It boils down to what you like. I lean torwards Ford............But if you want the best buy(if you can find it) is a Dodge 2500 Cummins Diesel.......My dad has the dodge....I had the chevy .....unkle had the ford........and the dodge has the least issue.......but thats one mans opinion
  13. It is fun as hell but you go as fast as the area allows. I took a bassboat safety course and I took my unkles boat out with him as his goes 78 and it is a 18' 84 Bass Nautique and he was a professional bass fisherman with the BASS so you have to be smart but also I fish tournaments, the faster you get there the longer you fish.....and its fun

  18. I have only owned a my boat for about 6 months and im learning about how to read my electronics. the lake in florida are mostly shallow, so when I am looking for offshore fish in 6-12 feet of water and sometimes a little less, do the bass stay as the boat trolls or idles over them, or do they scatter? I am very good with flipping and pitching and fishing fast around hydrilla but I am trying to expand my techniques.
  19. Great article....I was looking to buy my first lowrance, it was the new hds but after hearing what i heard i will be buying the new hummingbird 798 model
  20. HAHA I didn't think about the wind good call But they do catch a lot of wind. Get the largest you can afford. I'd say at least 55.
  21. I bought a 1997 Wellcraft with a 115 Johnson 2 years ago that was sitting for 6 years(the trailer rotted out from underneath and we had to cut it out) I went for 2 years to a tech school for basic marine mechanics, and i mean basics. I did the water pump new plugs wires and coils and the boat ran great until I sold it in April, I also took it to my teachers shop and he told me to do new head gaskets. Other than me spinning a prop i never had a problem with the boat. I ran it at 5500RPM every time out. I think if the proper preventative maintenance is done you will be fine, don't go strait to the lake. Check the oil injection pump, the emergency buzzer, and make sure your gaskets are not seeping. Changing the water pump and spark plugs is a must. If it is a nice boat and a good deal have the mechanic check it out first and I say go for it. Good luck PS: for the fuel injectors drain all the gas and put new gas in it, then add SEA FOAM for the first two fill ups then once every 3rd for the first year then you should be fine. Add it AFTER you fill up because it works instantly, read the label, I work for NAPA and there is nothing better on the market for fuel
  22. Thats great to know i will definitely check on that. Great info thanks
