  1. Three episodes of America's Most Unwanted..?? You're divorced THREE times ??
  2. I got rid of all my slow, 'purportedly cranking reels' and now use either 6.3/1 or 7/1 for all my bass fishing. If you need more winching power, it's time you get out to the gym. When that big ol Bass grabs your jig and starts swimming right out towards your boat in deeper water, you neeed that speed to catch up to him to get a good hookset on him.
  3. Keitech seems to have discontinued thers, but they were EXTREMELY DURABLE. My best to date have been the Yamamoto Hulas for action and catch rate, and I have tried a lot of the knockoffs . Been fishing the Yamamotos for nearly 20 years now.
  4. They have been out for quite a number of years, from several companies.. Many lures work great rigged on them, including the Super Fluke, the Horny Toad, and even a SENKO if you want to "t-rig" a hook as opposed to wacky-rigging it, but with a faster fall rate., or to work at a deeper level of the water column. Just about any soft-plastic that you want to work with a horizonatl angle , they work great on. 2 Thumbs up on them
  5. That was great. Thanks for putting that together for us anglers. Gary is "the real deal" in my personal opinion. I had the awesome priveledge of talking nearly two hours with him, one on one. at a trade expo in NY during the winter time manyyears ago. GLoomis had just come out with the first GLoomis frog rod back then, the green stick . Gary was working the booth, or just being Gary, and he saw me handing the Frog Rod in the GLoomis booth there. He did not know me,, and trust me, I am not well known, but he approached me and asked ..."Do you frog fish much?" To his suprise, I reached into my coat pocket and yanked out a "Wild Bull" frog made by Snag Proof, and I said..."Well, this color of thier frogs are named after me". ... Well, I NOW had HIS attention.!!! He wanted to hear what I thought about the rod..etc... He is a bit older than me, but not by a lot, and we chatted about a lot., his rods, bass fishing , etc,,and even about how his family had no interests in running his namesake business, so sadly he was selling it . A true gentleman !!
  6. Hmmm, I have seen that face before....and I was in the Post Office today looking at the WANTED signs there....Hmmmm? Hmmm,.... that face sure looks familiar. Har, har, har !!! Welcome aboard ! Nice interview with Gary Loomis.
  7. My brothers and I use to have a saying for when things got slow while fishing.... It related to slowing down the way we worked baits , and that often when we stopped working a bait, and just let it soak, to either have a sandwich or to take a leak...and it almost never failed that we would then get bit as it sat still. We called it the Di-k in hand or sandwich in hand bite... Har, har, har !!!
  8. The Best:: [Taught by my Dad back in 1960, when I was just six years old.] "Fish that Jitterbug at night with a slow steady retreive". 52 years later , it still gets BIG fish for me.. Thank you , Dad !!
  9. If nobody new gets into fishing it would not bother me... I like fishing spots ALONE or with my fishing buddy, but hate it when the waters are CROWDED. Way, way, way more people are into bass fishing than years ago when I started, and many today are outright RUDE, pulling right up on you as you are fishing, or RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU on your drift or set course, rather than them looking for another spot for themselves. So often I get into fish and then the 'bent rod'' crowd " comes over and crowds you.
  10. Great reels, and often found used for between $50-$70 dollars today in good condition. I have a dozen of the 201B [same reel, just a leftie] The 5/1 is what I use for cranks. For other applications, I use the 6.3/1 .
  11. I have been fishing for ages...over fifty years. I mean NO disrespect with my post above Each baitcasting reel has it's own characteristics. That particular reel, when in free-spool is a very 'loose' reel , meaning line can really fly off of it quickly, and if not experienced with that specfic reel,, it can mean an absolute birdnest city. Most likely, the line was not spooled correctly [too loose on the spool initially], and that means disaster[especilally wiith flouro], simple as that, especially if it is set up with little resisitance with the reel adjustments. My suggestion ; spool again keeping tension on the line as it gets spooled. Then, back off slightly more line than a full cast of line from the reel, then use electrical tape and use a few windings of that around the line, then respool the line that was peeled out. Now re-set the adjustments on the reel slightly tighter...and give it another go. With that tape in place, the line issues will not go deep into the spool if you eff up again. I hope this helps you.
  12. Sounds like you need more practice with a baitcaster...or ithe reel is not set up right. The iine is not the issue in this case, it is a user problem, most likely. How long have you been baitcasting ? How long have you had the reel ?
  13. There's got to be some tackle shop near you in California that stocks them. Be glad you do not live on the east coast, as it is FAR harder to get your hands on quality Bass fishing gear here than compared to California to feel them in yourown hands , trust me.
  14. The 735 is an AWESOME rod. You will NOT be disappointed in the Champion series.
  15. Co-anglers can bring 4-5 rods easily. Keep them neat, and be ready to run at a moments notice, once the boater says so. Keep tackle to a small bag and maybe a 3700 or two, so that you can tuck it all right at your feet as you run. Discuss what you need to bring with your angler before the tourney, as most boaters will have a game plan before they even start fishing.. DO NOT DYE ANYTHING aboard his boat.. Do not smoke without ASKING FIRST if that is okay. BE VERY CAREFUL around the seats, so not to tear, burn, snag, or dye them in any way. And NEVER grab a boat windshield to stand up or to steady yourself.
  16. Was told by TSA no line was allowed on board planes because it could be used to tie people up with. I have not been able to fly with it in my carry ons, spooled on a reel. Bare reels; yes, they can be carried on. I have had that same issue several times going in or out of Floriida or California.
  17. You all are going to laugh ...... Nobody else has chinese food delivered to the ramp at lunchtime ? I get the General Tsao's chcken combo with the pork fried rice, egg roll, and steamed dumplings.. The phone call sounds like this.... "Herro, Lucky Star kitchen...pickup or derivery " "Yes, Please deliver the number eight lunch combo please to the green Ranger at the launch ramp. You know me... Thank you very much " "Okay, Mr Wirry, ten-fifteen minute".
  18. Ooooh ! I thought you meant Harriman in NY
  19. Frog Turds, Was that lad's unusual looking Bass caught in California ?
  20. I am assuming this if for over-winter storage, and not for use with the canoe out on the waters, correct ?
  21. Looks like somebody spilled chartruese worm-dye on it. Har, har, har
  22. I travel by plane frequently with fishing gear... So far, I have NOT been allowed to carry on: Reels with any line on them. Reels are okay, as long as no line. No spools of line, or extra reel spools with line on them. [must be checked in] Hooks, or lures rigged with hooks [they must be checked in]. --------------------- Soft plastics with NO hooks seem to be okay to carry on.
  23. I stil use Mann's Jelly Worms. They FLOAT great, so if you fish them on a texas-rig, the tail of the worm floats up behind the weight, looking like a creature feeding on the bottom. Weightless, the ten-inch ones look like a snake coming across the waters, as you twitch it on top of the water's surface.
  24. I think the park managers at Harriman would have a cow if I dumped my Ranger in there...
  25. Whenever you want to, you can watch most of the LUNKERVILLE videos at : www.lunkerville.com Only the latest ones are not available there yet.
